My UO: I totally side-eye those new moms-to-be that research every possible baby and baby-related item to the nth degree. I'm talking looking at multiple review sites and you tube demonstrations of non-critical items - not, say, a car seat or something safety related or high-use/high-spend like a stroller.
My suggestion: if you're spending hours debating the receptacle for your child's discarded excrement, put the computer down and do something useful. Like, IDK, getting certified in infant cpr FFS!
Agree. Or like play mats and bathtubs. I was just like this one's cute and tossed it on the registry.
I think the only thing I researched was our travel system and by research I mean I read a few reviews on Amazon and Target....
LOL, thanks for the help ladies! I can't math today (or, any day really). However it all works out, I'm positive it's much cheaper to fill up in the States than it is here...especially with the exchange rate right now. Filling a tank for $20?! I'm not sure I've ever been able to do that, lol.
To be fair I drive a Honda civic with a pitifully small gas tank so it doesn't take much to fill it up, usually no more than 10 gallons. I always remember being so confused at gas prices in Canada because I couldn't figure out if they were high or low so you aren't the only one!
This is probably unpopular but I hope the gas prices go up soon, I miss my bonuses, raises, and job security.
This one takes the UO cake.
Please don't hate me, I'm not a filthy rich oil exec or anything. I'm just a working class lady who now hasn't had a bonus in over a year or a raise in two. When I took my job I didn't push the salary issue because I was told bonuses were generous...total fail.
I'm totally with you girl. My husband and I are both in the oilfield as well as 80% of my community. It's heartbreaking to see the layoffs and the devastation right in front of your eyes. The war on coal is the same - we had 465 miners laid off in two different mines last week. Devastating.
Maybe this is more suited for a FFFC, but since it is a popular topic on here...
I do not understand US gas prices at all! Are these prices good? Bad? How to they compare to the prices here? I have noooooooo clue, lol.
(I love me some confused Britney!)
Generally speaking, our gas prices are rock bottom cheap, both in absolute terms compared with the rst of the world, and relatively speaking, compared to our wages. However, we have a car culture, extremely high gas consumption (something for which we rank numero uno in the world) and like our cheap gas.
The ranges these ladies are discussing are highly state dependent. Our crappy road infrastructure is (under)funded, in part, by gas taxes and/or toll roads. So state gas taxes have a huge impact on prices. I'm in New York, and can literally drive across the George Washington Bridge, and save at least 50 cents per gallon in New Jersey (and get my gas pumped for me, as self-serve gas stations are outlawed in Jersey). Though I'll then have to pay about $12 to come back into NY on the bridge.
But generally speaking, whither go overall oil prices, so go gasoline prices, and oil prices are rock bottom right now, as there's a significant oversupply.

I'm Canadian and I recently filled my tank for $23! I live in Alberta though and our gas prices are always lower than the rest of the country.
That said our economy here is in a downward spiral here because of oil prices and tons of people are unemployed are under-employed at the moment, so it's comforting to see the prices back up to $0.80-ish a liter instead of the absurd $0.56 we got down to.

Dude I spent days researching tubs lol. And the one I picked was great!! It had a little indicator to show you if the water was too cold/hot...which was much needed in December/January. Plus it lasted from NB-6/7 months. And it fit in the sink! Love that thing haha.

I really side eye Dads who refuse to cut the cord. So watching your wife squeeze a bowling ball out her keyhole is okay, but you can't snip an umbilical cord? Seriously, that's too much for you? Wow.... Good luck changing diapers for the next 2-3 years.

You spent days researching tubs?!? EEEEEeeeekkk. How much time did you spend researching the rest of your baby stuff? You know your hand can also tell if the water is too hot. And a baby can take a bath in the sink...
Alrighty. I'll add I think it's weird of dads to want to cut cords. Like cutting the baby away from the mom way of weird.

I just posted on that poll thread that I have no clue if DH did it the first time or wants to do it for this kid. It's too far down my list of shit that needs to get taken care of/thought about before DS2 arrives. I guess popular opinion is that this is a way for dad to participate?? Who knows, DH all but slept through the last birth. I still give him hell about that.

I agree, I honestly didn't even think about it until I saw the poll post, which I have not looked at yet.

I seriously about pissed myself reading this. As someone who's hubby doesn't want to cut the cord, I agree. I don't really get it but whatever floats his boat. It doesn't hurt my feelings that he doesn't want to do it, I just felt like he might regret it if he doesn't? But who knows, maybe he won't think another thing about it.
I know I'm totally the lady in the commercial that makes everyone use hand sanitizer with the first baby and then hands the second baby to the dirty mechanic to hold! With my first, I researched every little thing down to every last detail, made everyone wash their hands to hold him (I'll still do that), didn't like taking him out in public, etc. At some point, I had a complete meltdown because he didn't have any socks. This time it took me 6 and a half months to even see if the car seats fit in our car. I'm not even 100% sure what I need to buy still for these two. And who knows if I'll have enough clothes and socks for them! Not to mention my DS eats food off the floor way more than he should! The rule of thumb we live by lately is "It can't be as germy as daycare." Yeah, I'm just really tired...

Pretty sure at least 40% of my daughter's calorie intake comes from "floor snacks"
I think it's f'ing appalling that there is still a professional sports team called the Redskins (and Indians for that matter). I side eye anyone who wears their logo.

And unfortunately it's my local sports team, so I can't avoid the crazy avid fans.
Oh and just because you use different characters (Star Wars, ghostbusters) doesn't mean you're not a "stick family on your car" perpetrator. A stick family is a stick family is a stick family and it's not cool no matter what you do.

We have local HS (in a VERY conservative area of CA) that is finally being forced to change it's mascot. It's seriously hilarious how many people think THEIR rights are being violated by having to do this.
People are making shirts about how they will always be Redskins and I'm just like, what.

It's a derogatory term. You substitute a derogatory term for any other population and you'd be destroyed. For some reason it's ok for the Indigenous population. Redskin, Indian, Eskimo are all offensive.

Maybe you could talk to my husband...he gets pale & sweaty just thinking about it...my nurse pals I work with (delivering at my hospital) will be on call for when DH inevitably bites the dust. Sigh.
@CourtJack Oh I completely agree! I hope my comment didn't seem like I was on the side of keeping Redskins as a mascot. I think it's disgusting and absolutely no different than using the "N word" as a mascot.
I just filled up my nearly 17-gallon Honda Pilot tank for $3.53 a gallon.... Ouch. Thank god for 5% cash back, but still.... Ouch!
@ahernandez16 I remember that!!! We don't hear about it much anymore (the hs mascot issue), but we had quite a few days of coverage about it down here in SD.
DH WILL be cutting the cord... Lol. we haven't discussed it, but he's doing it.

Oh no. I knew you weren't agreeing with their stance. I was just carrying on with my argument
I really think people should send thank you cards. I know I'm old fashioned, but really, if someone flies (with their 1 year old!) to your wedding and writes a big check, you can put a 40cent post card in the mail.
Amen sister. Nothing like a good old fashioned thank you card. My kids will be taught this just like my mom taught me. And this should be a popular opinion!
eta: I read Tim Gunn's golden rules and he says basically if you don't get a TY card then the person didn't need a gift so don't bother giving it again. I hate to do this but apparently my 5 year old nephew doesn't need bday presents at all, ever again from me.
I think it's weird that so many women care if their husband cuts the cord. Meh, it's a tradition, and if he wanted to I'd be on board. But I definitely don't question his commitment to parenting because he doesn't want to. I HAVE to squeeze a bowling ball out my vagina. He doesn't have to cut the cord. Comparing the two is so bizarre. And FWIW, my husband didn't and doesn't want to cut any cord, and he changed every diaper for 2 weeks while I recovered from my c section, woke up every night to bring baby to me for breastfeeding and diaper changing (until he went back to work).
I am dreading opening my FB news feed bc I live 20 minutes from where the new American Idol winner is from. It's all I'm going to see. I hate this show
Another one: I didn't think the glucose drink was that bad. It tasted like orange soda.
Yup, it's basically that orange HiC type drink they had a McDonald's when I was a kid. (Anyone else remember that?). it wasn't delicious, but I don't get why people make a big deal about it.
This is probably unpopular but I hope the gas prices go up soon, I miss my bonuses, raises, and job security.

Yes. Totally agree. Who cares if he cuts the cord? I don't get why it's some symbolic thing. If one of us is going to do it, I'd honestly rather it was me. I guarantee you I'm more excited about the disconnecting.
My husband also did not and will not cut the cord for either of our babies, but he has changed more diapers than I have, including every single one during our three PP days in the hospital with #1, and every single poop for the first five months of this pregnancy, when just being in the same room as a stinky diaper made me violently ill.
Another one: I didn't think the glucose drink was that bad. It tasted like orange soda.
I took it yesterday, it wasn't at all. I don't want to buy it and drink it everyday, a little too sweet for my taste, but people make it seem soo much worse than it is. I just chugged it and that was that.
