Freaking out a bit: UPDATE IN COMMENTS

So, I hate to be the special snowflake that starts a new post ALLLLL FOR ME, but I need some help/advice.

I'm 24+1 along, FTM. I've been feeling pretty good this week except for some wicked back pain that has gotten worse today. About two hours ago, my stomach started feeling very crampy and sore (upper abdomen, not lower). It literally started out of nowhere. Then the diarrhea started, and let's just say it has been severe. Every 20 minutes or so, the cramping comes back, and with it, a wave of back pain.

I put in a call to my OB nurse's line and she said *most likely* it's a viral bug kind of thing, and the contractions could be from dehydration. But the back pain, combined with some chills I've been having (no fever) and light spotting yesterday and today (I thought nothing of it until now) leads her to think I MAY need to get checked out. She told me to drink water, pay attention to the cramps, and call back in 1-2 hours to report how things are going. I still feel movement...I think. My mind is also playing tricks on me, so I'm second-guessing every flutter...

I'm terrified, and I feel like sh!t--literally. Has anyone else ever experienced similar symptoms? What was the cause?

  • I'm a FTM as well.  I don't think I could escape my husband dragging me to urgent care if I was having those types of symptoms.

  • I'm team better safe than sorry. It does sound like a virus but the spotting, I'm not a huge fan. Maybe a trip to L&D could help you ease your mind and an IV could help with dehydration if you can't keep water down!

  • Oh no! I've got my fingers crossed for you that it's just a stomach bug. I had the stomach flu a few months ago and the cramps and diarrhea are what happened with me. At that point though I was about 16 weeks so I didn't feel movement yet anyway and it was way earlier than you are right now. Keep track of all your symptoms and call the nurse in a bit. Better to go in and get checked out and find out everything is fine than to ignore it. Hope you feel better soon!!
  • No experience here, I just wanted to let you know you and baby are in my thoughts and prayers! You definitely did the right thing calling a nurse right away. FX you get some answers! Hang in there <3
  • I rather you be safe than sorry.
    Thank God for Raid.

  • Also team better safe then sorry! If anything just for peace of mind.
  • I have no experience with this but wanted to send good thoughts your way!
  • No experience with the symptoms, just hope that it is a stomach virus! Hope that you feel better soon...keep us updated!
  • I'd probably go get checked out, especially at this time of night (not sure where you're located). I wouldn't be able to go to bed thinking about things that could go wrong. Better to go in and give yourself some peace of mind. It's probably just a virus but you can't be too sure. Good luck!

  • Oh no! So sorry you are going through this I'm with the other posters in the safe rather than sorry camp. Even if it is a bug they may be able to give you fluids if you are very dehydrated or at least help you find some peace of mind or a solution. Do try and stay hydrated as best as you can. Sending you my thoughts and prayers this evening! Keep us updated!

  • I hope you feel better soon and everything is okay!  I'd probably get checked out just to put my mind at ease
  • Ok so I had this happen while on vacation. The stupid thing I did was not go into the hospital. I should have gone in and gotten iv fluids and meds. I threw up and pooped non stop for a day. I didn't eat or drink anything. So dumb but I couldn't keep anything down. I also felt like I was ok because my DH is a doc but seriously I should have gone in but didn't because I was on vacation. My lo was moving like crazy but I think it was because he was mad I wasn't feeding him and I totally had BH contractions.

So so many hugs lady! Hope you feel better soon!
  • Praying it's just a stomach bug! Feel better!!

  • It wouldn't hurt to get checked. I hope it's nothing serious. Sending positive thoughts.
  • I agree to go get checked out. Even if it's a bug you may be dehydrated and need fluids. Hope your feeling better soon.
  • Sending good juju your way! Feel better!
  • I definitely think you should go in and get it checked to be sure. Early on in my pregnancy I had a Gi tract virus 3 times and it was miserable. Horrible horrible back pain, diarrhea, vomitting, and bad bad cramps. Sometimes I'd have just the diarrhea no vomitting whereas other times I had both. I always had the bad back pain and stomach cramps along with it, though. Try some Gatorade too to get some electrolytes in you! I never had the spotting along with it, so that's what is sticking out to me the most in what you've described. I went to the ER 2 times when I had the virus bc I was so dehydrated and they gave me pain medicine and iv fluids. I got much better after that. I think you're better off getting help than suffering through it!! ❤️ I'm thinking of you, girl!
  • Thinking of you and baby! <3
  • Keep us updated! Hope everything is okay.
  • I had some light spotting recently and also had diarrhea which I attributed to some bad Mexican food. I called into my office and they said being even mildly dehydrated can cause spotting and when I upped my water intake it never happened again. They did tell me if it continued or I had more intense cramping that they'd have me come in but it didn't come to that. I say go in for your peace of mind. Sending good thoughts!
  • Thinking of you and LO, hope everything is ok!
  • Keep us updated, thinking of you and sending you positive vibes
  • I want to echo all pp's and agree that you should go in. Hoping it's just a stomach bug and that fluids help. Thinking of you and LO!
