March / April - IVF/FET

Re: March / April - IVF/FET

  • I just posted on FB a very nice (though I wasn't feeling particularly nice) post about where DH and I are in the process. I basically wrote "Thanks for the support, it's a long road and it's not over yet, we'll tell you when there's anything exciting." In other words, stop asking! I've realized how little people know about IVF, and at first they all assumed I'd end up like OctoMom. And since I had my ER, they think pregnancy happens right after that. We don't want to give full details on our FET calendar, since we'd like for it to be as much of a surprise as possible, so we've just been telling folks it'll be summer before we have anything definite. But anytime we ask someone over for dinner, they go "oh, so do you have something exciting to tell us?" Argh! I can't see my friends for no reason?! Sorry about the rant... Phew...

  • @dragonfaerie major eye roll! How does someone even have the audacity to ask if you have something exciting to tell them. Ugh! I know they are your friends, but ugh! I also decided not to share my FET schedule. I only told 3 gf's, and out of 3 my best friend asks when it's happening. I keep telling her it's going to take some time, there's lots of tests involved and it's going to take time. I hate lying, but I also don't want to jinx anything or reveal anything too soon if and when it does happen.

  • Thanks everyone! Y'all are awesome! So I had one more night of shots tonight. Last night of that stuff and trigger tomorrow night. She will call me tomorrow with the time. Thursday mid morning is probably when I'll have er. I briefly scanned everything and I hope everyone just keeps hanging in there. This is a tough process no matter how many times you've done it. I've been so zen this go around. It's weird. Then I got a little emotional tonight with hubby bc of low number of eggs and him thinking we need to make plans with people while we're in town for er. I was like I told you I don't want people knowing and the one couple will probably know what we're doing in pcola since showed up in town last time we did this and had dinner with them and I told the wife why we were there. I tried explaining to him the less people that know the less questions I'll get and if it doesn't work out the less people I have to tell etc. Urgh! But until today I've been pretty good. I mean our dryer has been broke and that's been frustrating. Part has to be ordered and now we wait. Mil is hurt and isn't coming to help out. Luckily hubby got some time off. So the one cycle where I've been pretty zen is where everything decided to go crazy. I guess it's bc I can take it in my calm state better than my nervous wreck state? Ha! I'm definitely hoping they missed something on us today. Oh and they almost had me drive back tomorrow. Even though they were already wanting me to do er Thursday. My nurse was like wait let me call them and see if you need that appt bc last time he let you skip that appt. This time I had missed that extra appt Friday. Luckily not driving tomorrow. I'll be getting things packed. Washing clothes now and have stuff already all over the place air drying. That's sad people judge people about having or not having kids. I've learned we may not know someone's story as to why they don't have kids or someone's story of how they came to have their kids etc. It's so hard to talk to people who haven't been through this. The whole "just relax" and it'll happen when you stop trying and all of that stuff is annoying. People just don't get how annoying that is to hear. I used to have friends say that to me. The hardest thing is having family get pregnant so easily and then they're inconsiderate of our feelings. its a crazy roller coaster ladies. Too bad we don't all live by each other. We could meet up for extra support. Y'all are awesome! I may not be on here much the next couple of days with traveling and getting ready and all but I'm going to try to at least check in on everyone. @Tulips29 yay for triggering tonight! We almost had same er day. Best of luck hope it goes great! Hope everyone else is doing great! Thanks @zantster and @BingALing23 and @Tulips29for the positive words! And just thanks to everyone for posting on here. It's helpful for all of us I'm sure.

  • @dragonfaerie so sorry! That must be annoying to invite people over and have them ask about having any news to share. How frustrating.
@Tulips29 yeah sometimes our closest friends like to ask a lot of questions and maybe it's to try to get a better idea of what we're going through or bc they're just curious. Who knows why.  It's hard to lie to them but it's also hard to be completely open with people about everything.

  • congrats on transfer @BingALing23 - hoping the embryos find a warm cushy place to settle in for the long haul ;)

@Drove2u - happy birthday - glad you had a fun celebration... at least the dance class part! a bfp would certainly be the icing on the cake. fx.

@dragonfaerie - this round we've been exponentially more open with friends than in the past and I am a bit worried about these friends throwing out those kinds of questions at the most inopportune times (aka after a negative beta). I do however, think its so important that the general public be more educated on the process, and have a deeper understanding and empathy towards what we go through, as I've found many are so beyond clueless. I welcome their questions, and am just very honest and direct with them if their question is perhaps not appropriate, doing so in the most diplomatic and kind way possible. I do have to say that I am fortunate that my friends are all very good about boundaries, though its hard to say whether that's because I've set them or not... I'm so sorry you are dealing with that. I would hate to feel like I've let my friends down, having expected grand news everytime we meet up. As if we need that added pressure. Hugs to you.

@lilsweetheart115 - good luck on trigger today, and yay for ER on Thursday! Very exciting for you to be moving forward!

  • @bingaling23 yeah!! Will be thinking of you. Awesome!!
  • @zanster - w... t.... f!?!? I can't believe people are posting things like that on your fb feed. Ugh. I have friends that have expressed they don't want kids at all, and not for one second did I judge them for that. We learn so much going through this journey of infertility, especially that you never know what someone else is dealing with. I chalk it up to ignorance, but that's really no excuse. Brutal. I'd definitely unfollow their feeds.

  • @lilsweetheart115 Good luck with everything today! I'm sorry your dryer is broken, what a pain! The spring on our garage door just snapped yesterday, so we'll be parking outside for a while. Hope you can keep your zen state of mind!
@BingALing23 FX today! Praying for stickies!
@oxinfree I definitely think that IF shouldn't be as taboo and misunderstood as it is. It really makes it hard to find good support when no one really understands it, and even those of us that are going through it have a hard time understanding all the numbers and processes and whys of everything. I'm happy to go step by step through the process with those that want to know, that's why we were so open about everything from the get-go. It's just hard to tell well-meaning people "no, we don't have anything exciting to tell you, please don't ask again." I can tell my BF that I don't appreciate some of her comments, but there are others that I cringe to think of correcting. Ah well, it's done now and I'm feeling better. I think right now I am just so on edge thinking about these next steps. The stims I felt so good about, but prepping for the FET is really making me nervous.

I hear you on being on edge. I was feeling all fine and dandy, zen even, and now I'm freaking out leading into my transfer Friday. Basically just realizing that the first half of the cycle I had control... taking shots on time, going to appointments, but once that egg is transferred... its all up to the universe it feels like, and that's super unsettling. Not sure how I'll cope with yet another bfn.

  • I think that's it, @oxinfree. I have been so good, responding well to meds, taking them on time, following directions, but at the end of the day, there's nothing I can really do to ensure that BFP actually happens. We're here in the final crunch and it scares me to think of having a MC, or just a BFN, and having to deal with the aftermath and telling everyone. I think it's time to get my positive affirmations back out!

  • @oxinfree don't let thoughts like that drive you crazy. It is out of your control, but take this time to relax, have peace of mind and throw yourself into something you enjoy after it's all done tomorrow. I truly hope this 3rd time will be the charm for you, but worrying will only stress your body more. You need to give that little egg (or 2) the best home until it implants. You've done all you can up until now. I'll hold my fingers and toes crossed extra tightly for you tomorrow, just for extra good luck

  • Well I'm not excited about my appointment this morning. Left ovary has only 3 over 10mm and 14 under 10mm. My right has 7 over 10mm and 16 under. only 4 of those total are over 14mm. My Estradiol is way high at 881pg, Progesterone .371mg and LH is 3.33mIU, my lining is 6.9 He is leaving me at the 150iu of menopur and Follistim  and add in 250mcg/0.5ml of Ganirelix to my morning meds.  Both of my previous IVF's I had more going on at this point but he's looking for quality not quantity.

  • @thucks ditto on the above! Ganirelix will speed things up as well. I was also worried as there wasn't much movement. Then I slowly got an increase in my dosage, then ganirelix and those follicles went crazy in there lol. Literally grew overnight. I saw a big difference from the first ganirelix shot. Don't feel discouraged!

  • @Rachnan I almost forgot to answer your job question. I'm a Title search and examiner for a Real estate Title company. I have an awesome boss who is letting me do all this even though I have only been here for a year. My RE is 40 min away and so far I've been able to have early am appointments so I'm only 1 hr late for work and usually I don't take a lunch to cover it. My ER and ET are 2 hrs away so I will take those days off plus an extra day after ET. There are only 8 of us in the office so we are pretty tight nit but no one asks questions I just write my apts on the board and we are all good.

  • @BingALing23 yay!! Excited for you!!

    @Drove2u Happy birthday!!
  • @thucks - I was feeling really discouraged as well and ended up doing much better than I anticipated. Keep the faith. The introduction of Ganirelix is sure to shake things up. :) sending positive vibes your way.

@Tulips29 - absolutely a positive attitude is so so important... I'm just struggling a bit at the moment I think because I feel so absolutely crappy. I've been so sick all week, and in so much bloaty pain that it's hard to get all optimistic about it. I'm sure as I improve and feel better I'll be able to shake it off... just hoping that comes before Friday's Transfer ;)

@dragonfaerie - honestly, after all my dh and I have been through, I'm petrified of a mc. I'm pretty sure I'm be so apprehensive about getting excited at first if we are successful. Ahhh the ways infertility changes you.

I'm still sick, and still feeling super bloated and crummy. TMI but I can't go to the bathroom to save my life, and it's getting a bit ridiculous. I'll have to ask the nurse tomorrow when she calls about my embryos what she recommends. I'm hesitant to use a laxative (I have IBS and it can be really horribly crampy/painful if I do) so wondering what else can be done... I'm drinking lots of water and staying hydrated which I know is super important, but man I'm miserable...

  • @oxinfree I'm sorry you're feeling so miserable. Are you able to take any pain killers to ease the cramping? Also, how about coconut water or lots of fiber vs a laxative? Perhaps that will help? Hang in there girl, hopefully this will pass soon!
I'm worried about being super crampy and bloated after the retrieval. And then there's the friend's wedding on Sunday. I've got 2 semi-baggy-ish dresses but if I'm as bloated as I am today, nothing will hide this belly. I'm also feeling super uncomfortable and in pain. My nurse told me I can take over the counter pain killers to easy the bloating and cramping tomorrow, so I'm going to make sure I have enough on hand tomorrow.
