Baby Gear Lust

This was a fun thread on the last BMB that I was apart of, so I thought it may be fun for all of us as well. I know most of us won't be purchasing anything until our 2nd and 3rd trimesters, but it's always fun to window shop and do research!

What stroller, crib, car-seat, baby-carrier, etc are you lusting after? Have you already purchased something because you found a great deal on it or just HAD to have it?

  • City Select stroller, Bassinest, Lilliebaby, and a Solly wrap are my current obsessions.  This is my second and theres so many things I wish I had done differently.

  • The plan is to use pretty much all the same stuff as we did for our son. Hell be just two when this nugget arrives. I have an uppababy vista so intend to add the rumble seat. I don't love the configurations but then again none of the single wide double strollers I looked at have great options. Still deciding whether I want to invest in a double Maclaren. I have a single right now that I use a ton. Since we live in th city I use strollers all day and have multiple different kinds depending on the need.
We used the arms reach cosleeper last time but I'm lusting over the halo that swings around. Sounds like heaven for the back.

We we will need a crib since our son is still in his. And, probably another changing table because ds still uses his and it's the only place he'll let me change him with out squirming.

Oh, and we need to build a third room. Fun.

@nauticallife, I love your list of obsessions. I also have the bassinest and the solly wraps on my pinterest board. Is there a reason why you're wanting the Lilliebaby over an Ergo, Baby Bjorn, Stokke, etc?

  • I REALLY want a Bassinest with this one, especially because I'll probably be having a c/s. I have a sling I used for both of my other kids (made for me by a family friend) which I'll likely use again for most of my carrying needs. I am debating actually getting a stroller this time. We never had one with the other kids (we always just wore or carried them) but I think I might like to give it a try this time around particularly since my oldest can probably help with stroller pushing (he'll be almost 10 when this one is born.) Haven't really started looking at them yet, though, and I have no idea what I'd like in a stroller.

Crib-wise, we're just going to buy one with some drawers from Ikea the next time they have a sale. Baby will be in our room until 18mos, so we're not doing a big nursery or anything and storage will be at a premium.

  • I also want a Tula toddler for DS to free up the ergo for the new baby.
  • Anything from 4moms. So obsessed with all that stuff. Too bad it's major $$$$.

  • @lilwonder I actually have a bunch of carriers already.  I have an Ergo360, Tula, and Lenny Lamb.  The Ergo360 is the only one I have that faces forward and it's just not pretty.  The Lilliebaby ones have great patterns, have breathable options, and also face forward.  So basically I just want to waste money on something perdy haha.

  • @AdmiralKitty, have you seen the new highchairs they're doing that are all magnetic!? That's on my list, too!! I did find out that BuyBuyBaby's 20% off deal (when you get them in the mail) does NOT exclude 4Moms, so I may be able to get one!

@nauticallife, Thanks for explaining! I think I'd like to try some of them on, to see which fits me (and DH) best? I did just check out the Lilliebaby site and those are SUPER cute! I love the fun patterns, and breathability is key!

  • Love our Tula.  It was super helpful when we flew.  I wore lo through the airport security line and it was so nice.  We also have the Britax infant car seat and stroller combo.  Love them and we have made good use of the stroller.  I love how easy it is to open and close.

This kid (No. 2) probably won't get too much new since my DS is only 18 months so we have almost everything.  I may splurge on the Mamaroo since I didn't get one of those last time!

  • I'm currently lusting over a couple different stroller options. I love the Bugaboo Cameleon 3, but I do realize how heavy and somewhat impractical it seems to be. For the price, quality and design (plus being able to add the rumble seat for a second child!), I really like the UPPABaby Vista-- a lot! What I don't like is that silver UV shade, it's just hideous to me, haha. I'm also super interested in the Baby Jogger City Premier (was called the metro prior to release). The price point is much lower and the seat is reversible/removable, you can add a bassinet, etc.

Since this will be our first baby/first stroller, I really want to choose something that I love and won't regret. Luckily, I've still got a while!

I think that totally counts. I actually know someone who has one of these. She had twins last summer and she has kept the "night nurse" and transitioned her into a nanny. While I don't have the need for a night nurse, or a nanny, the idea does seem a little bit nice and luxurious!

So far on my list is the City Select stroller, Ergo (I already have a moby) and a Bassinest. We haven't looked at cribs yet.

I'm right there with you @lilwonder. The whole stroller thing is overwhelming and they are so expensive. I want to make sure we choose the right one for us since they are pricey. I'd like one that can eventually turn into a double and has a bassinet option. The City Select is my favorite right now, I've also looked at the UppaBaby Vista.

    Edit: Spelling
  • I want a really nice wrap conversion ring sling. I'm stocked on baby carriers, but I really want to upgrade my maya RS.

Other than that, not much. I don't really need anything new. I have a stroller that converts to a double (britax b-ready) and i picked up the second seat on clearance when my daughter was a newborn, haha. I'm not crazy about it, but I'm also not going to spend major $$$ on a city mini side by side double.

  • I really want a mamaroo and one of those Halo bassinets this time around. I'd love to sell my 2014 Vista for one of the new models, but that just feels wasteful.

  • @lilwonder if you are considering having 2 close together, get a stroller that can convert into a double.  I currently have the city Versa (which is the previous version of the premier) and although it's great I now need a new stroller.  My current one wont even be 2 years old when lo gets here.

Yeah- we'd love to have 2 close together... that's the plan, but I'd just like to see #1 make it here safe and sound.

The UPPABaby Vista is the only stroller I'm interested in at this point that has the capability to go double (and still looks great/functions well single). The other thing I like about the Vista is that the bassinet is separate. With the Bugaboo (which cannot be converted into a double, unless you get the donkey frame- no thanks!) you have to take the seat fabric off the toddler seat and build the bassinet with it. I do understand that you're only using the bassinet before they can sit-up on their own and then the toddler seat after, but having two separate pieces just seems better in my mind.

On top of it, DH and I still like the Nuna Pipa and Cybex Cloud Q Plus as far as carseats go. Both of these can easily work with any of the strollers I've mentioned, using adapters-- I just want to choose the right combo and it's like moving target.

Side note: I've looked at the Cyber Priam as well-- NO idea why they are so flimsy! Literally, the handle has a good 5" to 6" of "play" in it and doesn't seem very well made at all. It's super cool looking but just doesn't seem functional enough.

  • I'm loving both the Halo Bassinet and the Baby Bjorn Bassinet. I'd love to get both - the Halo for our bedroom and the Bjorn for downstairs in our family room, but that's a lot of $$$.

I'm also considering the mamaroo. I borrowed it from a friend with my first and it SAVED us. My kid was a motion junkie when it came to sleeping, so the mamaroo not only helped us get sleep, it helped us wean him off motion and into his crib by slowly reducing the speed.

I'll need to get a double stroller at this point, but don't know which yet. I like the Joovy Caboose Ultralight, since it has both a sit and stand option for the bigger kid.

In reality, I'm leaning towards the Contours Options Elite Double stroller, an ergo & a Solly wrap. But there's still lots of time to change my mind!

  • @mrs_hoyahooA word on bassinets. Although incredibly useful for nighttime feedings, you will only use it until the baby is a few months old. Id get a swing for downstairs or a rock and play.

Another item people may not be thinking of that I found essential was a glider (chair). After delivery and learning to tote around an object all day (the baby), my back hurt!! I nursed in that glider for every feeding. It was a life saver. We stillbusebit every night for bedtime routine. This was the item we spent the most money on and I think it was worth every penny.

@shevaCC with your Phil and teds, where did you put the infant? Did it work well or better as they got older?

Thanks for mentioning a glider. I've found that these are pretty pricey. I've never hesitated to spend the $ when it comes to chairs or couches in our home, so I don't know why the expense of this is throwing me for a loop. It's nice to hear from someone that it's worth spending. Ideally I'd like one that long-term I can put fixed legs on (or stop the gliding movement) and have as a club/arm chair. Currently I'm obsessed with this one from Restoration Hardware and it might just be the one (I happen to get a small designer discount there, which is my only justification).

And a nice double stroller. I'm going to creep this thread so I can get ideas on the best double strollers out there.

I actually wore DS most of the time as an infant, but did sometimes lay the main seat down flat and put the second seat on top (the pic below I found online and baby is laying down underneath, visible from the back). I actually love that configuration bc no one messes with your baby since your toddler hides him/her. You can also keep the second seat underneath and get a car seat adapter but there wasn't a good adapter for the Chicco keyfit (our seat) so we skipped that.

ETA - I'm actually loving the stroller more now than when DS was tiny. I had no issues carrying a 12lb baby around all day but my 25lb toddler is a handful and my 32lb preschool still prefers to ride when we're going long distances. We live near Seattle via ferry and often leave our car and walk on the boat so we don't have to deal with parking downtown. I find it hard enough navigating an urban environment with a single-wide stroller. This one is no wider than a wheel chair so it goes nearly everywhere.
  • @lilwonder, I still love our glider and use it at least several times a week after nearly 4 years. It's no longer in a nursery, I got one that looks like furniture so it's in our den next to the couch.

I have a single BOB right now. I am totally spurgling on a double. They are hands down my favourite stroller. And I want a Tula, and a halo bassinet. If a night nurse was in the realm of my world i'd hit that shit up. It seems my children don't sleep.
    Edit- words are hard
  • really want a good SMALL double stroller that is not going to break the bank... for PPers always look on Ebay for things like the Mamaroo!! My husband found one for over half the price and my baby loved it! I had the Halo bassinet and it is so very nice and sturdy! It's just very heavy so if you're wanting to move it around I wouldn't suggest it, and actually same for Mamaroo- if you're wanting something easily movable I suggest a Rock and Play or whatever they're called.

  • @mrs_hoyahooA word on bassinets. Although incredibly useful for nighttime feedings, you will only use it until the baby is a few months old. Id get a swing for downstairs or a rock and play.

Thanks! You're probably right about the swing for downstairs. I just want to avoid the rock and play - I'm convinced that it's part of the reason it took my soon so long to transition to the crib. I just want something flat and still for this kid to learn to sleep on :)

    @lilwonder - that is a beautiful glider!

  • I'm salivating over a double BOB stroller. We were just about to invest in the Revolution when I got pregnant. The handlebar is adjustable on the Flex and you could push it with your pinky, that's how perfectly balanced and designed it is. We were gifted with a cheap Graco but I never used it, much preferred baby wearing. This time around, I'll need it more. I'm eyeing a Tula right now, especially if it's a girl I'll merit buying a pretty print. I have the marine Ergo now and have such a fondness for it.

I'm definitely getting an automatic Rock and Play this time, they were the rage on my last board. I had a bouncer, swing AND PnP but my son never liked any so I'm hesitant to spend more than $75 for that kind of thing.

I loved the cuteness and idea of the glider but it wasn't really comfortable long term. I lived in it last time since I nursed, but I'm quite tall so this time I'm just going to get a (hopefully) cute recliner. My toddler is cuddly and will most likely want in on that action when I'm sitting with the baby.

Craigslist is a great option for buying the pricier things.

Oh and a girl can never have too many Aden + Anais muslin swaddles. I can't wait to see what prints are out now. Greatest products ever.

  • I am for sure getting a Tula this time, but if money and space were not options, I'd get a double BOB and/or a City Select, too!
Oh, and a big ole SUV with bucket seats and a 3rd row ;)

I saw a few people mentioning the uppa baby vista. If you're investing in it for a double I would strongly encourage you to check it out in the store.  The second seat is very very small.
