Twin Names, keep toss add

Expecting fraternal twins, don't know sexes yet, and we like to go to the hospital with a couple of options. DS is Simon James. Not into super matchy names, and prefer more classic (but not top 100). Currently on our lists (in order of preference):

Elliot
Ethan (worried about popularity)
Luca
Graham
Grant

Violet
Cara
Elena
Hazel

Re: Twin Names, keep toss add

Thanks! I like Ian and Garrett, as well as Nina and possibly Audra (I like Audrey and Aubrey, but last name ends in same sound). I should have mentioned that part of the draw for floral names is that it honors my grandmother (named Flora).
  • I love Flora is that an option?

I also like Dahlia which isn't as common but still very recognizable.

No, my grandmother dislikes her own name so much she requested that anyone wanting to honor it use flower names instead. I'm not a fan of Flora, but do like floral inspired names.

Congrats on your twins! I'm also expecting twins and am team green.  It's hard to come up with so many options that you both agree on!

From your list for two boys I really like Elliot & Luca or Ethan & Grant.  I think all of them could go well together except I'm not a huge fan of Grant & Graham together - too matchy.

For girls I do love Elena & Hazel. They are both on my list although, SO isn't a fan of either. :) I'd stay away from Hazel & Violet together (too colored/matchy in my opinion).

For a boy/girl.  I love Elena & Elliot, Ethan & Hazel, Luca & Violet.  You have a lot of great options! I'm also not a fan of Cara compared to your other options.

  • I love Violet and Cara (I would think about what pronounciation you want though- Car-uh, or care-uh), and love Ethan or Elliot. It may be different where I live but I don't know any boys 10 or under named Ethan and I'm involved in many kids/baby groups.

They're all great. My favorites are Elliot, violet, graham and cara.
  • Thanks for the great feedback! I'm loving seeing the combination ideas.

@tmk0325 yes, having so many options ready is really challenging! Congratulations on your twins also!

@momma2char I prefer Care-uh, which I think would be the go-to pronunciation here in TX. I've noticed that same thing about Ethan- even though it is a top 10 name, I actually only know one and he is my age.
  • Love Luca, graham, grant... For girls Elena and hazel are my favorites... Suggest Iris, Eloise, Fiona
  • My favorite combos. Elliot and Violet. Elliot and Graham. Violet and Elena.
  • Elliot and Violet are my favourites from the list. DS is Elliot so that's obvious, warning if you use that spelling almost everyone adds a second t which is annoying but it's the spelling we preferred
  • I'm all for elliot and Elena
  • I know a sibset of Nina and Simon and I've always loved how they sound together, so I am glad you've added Nina to your list.

Of your original list I like Violet and Luca the most for B/G, Violet and Hazel for G/G and Luca and Elliot for B/B.

  • @kim1989 good to know people will add the extra t. I've been back and forth on spelling, but do prefer Elliot. I also was a little curious if people might think it is feminine? I know it isn't and shouldn't be, but have heard it on girls before.

Stupid people might think it's feminine.

But unlike the Madisons and Ashleys, Elliot has been in constant usage. It will probably never reach the point of being seen as a girl's name or even "unisex".
  • Keep Luca, Violet, and Hazel
  • Love Violet and DS will likely be Grant Joseph. Haters gonna hate! :-)

  • Keep: Luca
    Toss: Elliot, Ethan, Graham, Grant.
Add: Elijah, Grayson, Hunter, Wyatt, Mason

    Keep: Elena
    Toss: Cara, Violet, Hazel
Add: Maya, Isla, Freya, Eden, Orla

  • Keep: Elliot, Graham, Grant, Violet, Elena

Add: Russell, Sebastian, Leon, Dominic, Rose, Florence, Lily, Heather, Jasmine, Marigold, Camellia (love the nod to your grandmother!)

I love PPs suggestions of Iris (gorgeous IMO) and Daphne.

Just a note that I don't think Nina & Simon is a good sibset unless honoring the singer Nina Simone.

Good luck & double congrats :)
  • Every single one of your names besides Cara & Grant are common/popular. But I like Grant and Elena.

@Mamabeagle I guess it depends on your definition on "common/popular". Almost all of them are outside top 100, so they don't seem too common to me. You're right that they're not really unusual, though.
  • @kimikimi Thank you! I do also love Iris, but it is already taken by a family member. Nina Simone never even crossed my mind, lol.
