Baby Names

Girl Name.

We don't know what we are having yet. We have picked out Theodore James for a boy. But are having trouble with a girls name.  Irene was my Great Grandmothers name and I would like to incorporate it somehow. Not sure if I want to use it as a first name though. Would love opinions on our options and/or other suggestions.

Caralynn Irene
Irene Charlotte
Elliott Irene
Elleigh Elizabeth

  • Irene Charlotte by a landslide.

The other options are just, bad. Like, I's assume meth was involved bad. I'm sorry but, yesh. They don't even compare to Irene and Theodore.
  • Carolyn Irene is okay if you spell it like this.
    What about Charlotte Irene?

Elliott is a boy name. Elleigh is really bad. What about Elise, Ella, Caroline, maybe even Hailey?
    DD: Ophelia 5/18/15
  • Theodore James is great but your girl names need some serious reworking. Carolyn and Caroline are nice but Caralynn is a mess. Elliott is good for a boy and I don't even know what Elleigh is. Suggest:

    Caroline Irene
    Eloise Irene
    Cara Elizabeth
    Ella Irene
    Elena Irene
    Eliza Irene

  • Hubby came up with Caralynn and Elliott- both are family names of his. Neither are my favorites but of all the ones we have come up with they are the best. My mom is pushing Charlotte which turns me off from it as a first name.

I'm leaning towards Irene Charlotte but I'm not completely in love with any of the names. Any thoughts on nicknames for Irene? Or an alternate middle name? Maybe that would make me like it more.

We settled on Theodore so quickly and I love it! I haven't had that feeling with any girls names. I thought a boys name would be the hardest but if this baby is a girl the poor thing is going to be an "it" if I can't decided soon (39 weeks tomorrow!!).
  • Theodore James and Irene Charlotte are fantastic.  I agree with PP that the others are bad.  And it sounds like you aren't all that into them either, which means that you should keep on looking.  Some other ideas for you:

  • I actually like Irene the best. I grew up with an Irene, and I know a 3 year old named Irene. I wouldn't attach a nickname to it, and see what comes naturally. I went into having my DD with a nickname picked out, and have never once called her by that nickname. However, she has like 6 nicknames that I use, that just happened over time, and have nothing to do with her legal name.

I have an aunt, Reenie. It's actually short for Doreen, but it would work for Irene too!

  • Theodore James and Irene Charlotte are great names.
  • Irene Charlotte by a landslide.  Prefer Charlotte Irene.
  • There's a sweet lullaby about Irene. It makes me like it for a first name. :)
  • Reenie is a cute nickname.

  • Love Elleigh Irene
  • Irene Charlotte is by far the best from your list. I really like Irene as a first name - classic, unique and refreshing! I wouldn't worry about a nn. That will come naturally after she's born.  :)
  • Agree with most PPs, Irene is cute and underused. I say go for and don't worry about a NN, it'll probably be something that just happens on it's own.
  • Coraline is similar and a lovely choice I think.
