Thoughts on Darcy?

Girl or boy? Behind the Name shows it for both, but I am liking it for a girl. I like the literary reference, and the way it feels both sweet and strong. General thoughts or suggestions on other not-too-out-there non-top-100 names?

Re: Thoughts on Darcy?

  • I knew a girl named Darcy so I associate it with a girl.  It's NMS personally but I think it's a nice name.

  • Not a fan. Let's be honest, Mr. Darcy was an asshole.  I also had a doll named Darcy (maybe it was spelled Darci?) growing up.  I wouldn't want to use it for a girl because it would always remind me of a vapid fashion doll.
  • Also think of Mr. Darcy!

BUT for a FN I would associate it more with a girl.  NMS but it's a nice name IMO.

  • I think it is a nice change.  Not popular yet easy enough for people to understand.  I associate it with a girl.
(I don't know what everyone is talking about when they refer to Mr. Darcy). When people see a cute little girl named Darcy thoughts will change.
  • Not a huge fan.  I think there are a ton of better not common yet awesome names out there.

  • I've read Pride and Prejudice, and it didn't make me think of Mr. Darcy until others pointed it out. I kind of like it for a girl. The only other Darcy I know is in her 50's, but I can see it working.

  • I've heard it on both and have a 33 year old friend named Darcie but prefer the -y spelling. I know someone who named their little boy Darcy (he's 5 or 6 now) but really really prefer it as a girls name.

  • I know a Darcy as well so yeah, it's a girl's name, but not a fan personally (even though I really like the one I know, so it's not a negative association or anything!).

  • Alright, no dice for Darcy. Thanks for the honest opinions! I was feeling a bit on the fence about it to begin with, just looking for good options to add to our short list.
  • That's too bad! My cousin is Darcey and she is amazing.  But I would add the "e" if you went with it.

I know an equal amount of women named Darcy to men. My first thought upon hearing Darcy goes straight to Pride&Prejudice though.

    I don't mind it for a girl. :)
  • I like the name Darcy and would associate it with a girl.
  • I think of Jane Austen's Mr. Darcy and Darcy from Married with Children.
