My dad lives in Atlanta, so i called him and his wife. My grandmother lives by Philly so i called her too. For my mom, I told her to close her eyes and hold out her hands. I put the most recent u/s pic in her hands. Her response was total shock. With DFs parents we had our 4 year old hand them the u/s. DFs sister is expecting her 3rd in Oct. She was glad to hear she isn't the only one with another surprise baby on the way lol!
I told my sisters Friday- didn't go as planned (see the most recent FFFC thread). My dad was bugging me about telling the grandparents on his side, so I texted him the latest picture from the 12 week scan that we got that day and said he can just go for it. This was right after my sister exploding on me and leaving me in tears though, so I was just totally over the whole telling people thing. It made me miss it being my secret.
On the upside- I told my two interns yesterday. I brought them lattes and munchkins (donut holes), and presented them with the box saying there's no reason I should be the only one getting fat because I have a munchkin on board. It was so cute, they went nuts! And then I proceeded to eat half of their munchkins (whoops!) lol! I'm going to do the same for my remaining co-workers at my morning job on Tuesday.
Then I stopped at my moms and told my grandma on her side- who was totally ecstatic. Last person to tell is my youngest sister, and the best I can get is FaceTime. Again, I'm kind of over telling people for the moment- it's draining! I think if it had gone as planned with my sisters on Friday I'd feel differently. It was just so anti-climactic!
Here is a picture that someone took of DH and I at my pajama birthday party/surprise pregnancy reveal last night. Everyone was shocked and it went just how I hoped! And damn, the cake was delicious! @sarahmconnors I haven't been on the bump much but am sorry to read you're dealing with difficult family members right now. I'll head over to FFFC to read what happened and respond more there if I can offer support.
@LakeR2014Thanks! It was so fun to see the look of surprise on everyone's faces since we haven't told hardly anyone about the baby (besides our immediate families).

@blondie080300 So so cute!!!! I love the way you announced! I wish I could share mine on here but it's a video so no luck. On the upside on the family drama- the one awful sister who was nasty did apologize (although not very genuinely), and I haven't heard from her since- so I'm keeping my distance. Most of my mom's side has been wrapped up in stupid drama, so I'v retreated into my happy little bubble with DH and I'm choosing to only surround myself with good things and happy people.
We haven't spilled the news fully yet. My family is in Canada and I intend to tell them when I visit in two weeks. It's also my moms birthday so we planned a fun day and dinner out and we got her a "promoted to grandmother" coffee mug and "grandma est. 2016" tshirt. I know she's going to be thrilled! For my dad I am going to hand him a small album of photos (he loves taking photos) and will have my sonogram pic and a thing saying he's going to be a grandpa. I'm the first to have kids on my side of the family even before cousins so I expect everyone to be quite excited. Not sure how to tell my younger sister yet - touchy situation as she's been trying for a baby for some time as well...hoping she will be happy to be an aunt! Will tell my granny too. Her sister has like ten great grandkids so I know she will be happy to have her first! We are going to tell my husbands parents tonight - they're across the country so we can only call. Same with his sisters. He's the youngest so it's kind of been there done that but I'm sure they'll all be happy too.
I do have plans to take a photo to announce online and to our friends - we will be wearing 49er jerseys and will hold up a baby jersey onesie saying we're happy to draft a new rookie this September. will post it once we do it! So excited to finally spill the beans to everyone!!
I would NOT tell it at the sort of engagement party. Brides can be very easily upset. Your mom may consider it a birthday present but don't do it at the friend's party.
We're announcing next weekend- my family in person and his through FaceTime. That's a lot of calls we have to make though, so they'll probably just be short and sweet.
We actually just finished filming for our FB announcement video too- had to go all out since DH works in film.
We announced to all sets of parents and siblings (except one to be done tonight) this weekend either in person or by phone. Everyone has been super excited and happy which has also helped my excitement level.
I am still keeping it hush hush though as I don't want my work to find out until the end if March.
We have two friends birthday parties and an engagement party in the next couple of weeks which would be perfect for sharing the news with different groups of friends and extended family but I don't want to step on any toes so will probably only quietly mention if someone notices that I'm not drinking.
Update: We told my mom through a mug that said "best grandma ever" with a card that said "baby lastname arriving September 2016" and my husband handled his family by tell my brother in law that surly his crappy day will get MUCH better once he learns that he's going to be an Uncle again.
We slowly started telling our friends and I did end up announcing at the wine party - my girlfriends all got together to celebrate the bride-to-be on the weekend, negating the wine party as any sort of engagement celebration! And the bride-to-be is a totally chill person - I never thought she'd freak out about my announcement (in a negative way) I just wanted to make sure she was able to fully bask in the limelight for a little bit. And besides, I know my friends are all waaaay more excited about the wedding than my baby - after all, weddings are for everyone to go to and participate in, but babies are really more for the parents.
Also, heads up if any of you plan on doing the Munchkin idea for work. Make sure you go to Dunkin Donuts early! They were all sold out when I stopped on my way to work on Friday. Granted, it was Friday which is prob. a popular donut day. Anyways, I ended up buying 3 dozen donuts for the office and sent an email saying:
"Pregnancy cravings are real...so I thought I would share mine with you! There are donuts in the kitchen courtesy of Baby Last Name, who is due to arrive on September 15th, 2016. Enjoy! "
It wasn't the original message I wanted but people loved it. I also encouraged DH to do the same for his office today and he said it has really brought everyone together and it was nice to see people be so interested in the fact that he is going to be a father. It really is a lot of fun and I highly encourage a fun way to announce at work! Who doesn't love free food?

We have an oven in our office kitchen, so I made homemade cinnamon rolls and baked them at the office. I put a note out with them that said "Enjoy a cinnamon roll to help celebrate our Cina'bon' in the oven". Kind of cheesy but it went over well. The best part was watching people walking around smelling the air asking why it smelled like a Cinnabon.
For my parents my mom was playing with my 17 month old and I said "hard to believe he's going to be a big brother isn't it?" Her eyes got wide and she said You're Pregnant?!?!
For my husbands parents he put the pregnancy test in front of his mom. I found that gross, idk I'm weird about that. I don't want someone else's pee stick sitting in front of me lol. But his family so his choice.
We'll announce to my husband's extended family this weekend at Palm Sunday. I'm leaving it up to him on how he wants to approach it...no more pee sticks though.
We told my family on the weekend so we made the announcement in our office yesterday with some Dunkin Donuts Munchkins and a little note. It went over really well. I'm even more excited now that the news is out!
Those sprinkle covered ones look delicious!!! I did the munchkins at work too- but I told people to have some, because I shouldn't be the only one getting fat just because I have a munchkin on board
Re: Announcing IRL
As far as your friend, I personally would not announce at her engagement party. It seems a little tacky to me.
