My uo may be more unpopular in the south than in the north, idk, but I do not understand the obsession with Yeti coolers. I have so many girl friends who have been given a yeti cooler as a gift and they think that's the best thing ever. Unless you're about to go fishing and need to keep your fish cold for a day or two, you just waisted a few hundred dollars.
Totally agree! They are so expensive and I don't get the appeal. The mugs/tumblers are really popular here too. Do you really need a $40 tumbler to keep a drink cold? How long does it take you to drink 20 oz that makes that purchase necessary?
I find it officially unnecessary to support Yeti with a decal on your car. There are way too many people with them where I live.
And Yeti is stupid expensive for no reason. I saw a colored tumbler the other day for $85. Who is their right mind would pay that for a cup??
@bear14+ I guess I should have actually just said skim milk for me to drink. I know I'll be buying whole and eventually 2% for LO, but I just can't stand to drink it myself! I feel like I'm trying to drink pudding. Blech!!!!

I hate hashtags with a passion. I think they are dumb and I harshly judge all people who use them. Especially the spoiled humble bragger on my fb who says #blessed and #deserveit when she posts about presents she got from people.
I can't stand when I see family overly attached to screens. Too often I'll hear of each kid getting their own TV with cable in their rooms, their own phones, plus tablets, and computers!! Why!?!? What do you need all that crap for? And it really makes me upset when I see a whole family out to dinner, not talking, all on their phones! One time I saw a family of four (mom, dad, preteen and toddler) the toddler was trying to get the family's attention but they all just stared at thier phones...
Our bed is just a crummy double bed. Both of our feet tend to hang off the edge unless we scrunch up. During pregnancy women should definitely have a king size bed to sleep on soo much space. My hubby is 6'5 and he barely fits our bed

OH my goodness I know! There is this woman I'm friends with on facebook from our church and I swear she posts waay too many hashtags! Like 10 in one post about her daughter who is like 2! It's quite annoying!

The number one reason I'm so excited for dd to turn two next month is so that I can just buy just skim milk for me and the kids. No more whole milk in the fridge!
My UO may be more unpopular to my in-laws than it is to anyone here. My nephew is obese and honestly it's ridiculous. The kid is 5 years old and has cellulite. He ONLY eats chicken nuggets, corn dogs, chips, and Mac n cheese. Oh, French fries too. With ranch dressing and ketchup on everything. When we go out to eat they have to make a special trip to Burger King or McDonald's to get him something to bring to the restaurant to eat. Also, they stick an iPad or iPhone in front of his face the whole time so he will be entertained while at dinner. He's 5 and acts 2. An absolute terror. He will belch as loud as possible (in a crowded restaurant) and parents/grandparents think it's perfectly ok. H and I pretty much refuse to go out with them now. They 100% have let him learn to be in control. He does not mind or do what he's told. He will straight up look you in the eye and do something you just told him not to do. The kid needs discipline.. And a damn salad. Ok I'm done. Man that felt good to let it out!

Anyone who hashtags anything #blessed makes me want to punch them. BUT... as a longtime avid Twitter user, I love and use hashtags for what they're designed for: making content easier to find and following discussions on a single topic.

My jaw hit the floor with this one. Everyone knows my stance on kids and screen time but the food!? He's 5! What's he gonna do if he doesn't get fast food. It's not like he has money to go get in a car and get it himself. For reals this kids needs a week at my house and he'll be begging for some plain veggies and protein with the odd healthy eating we do (think grain free pizza crusts made of almonds with kale, tomatoes and eggs on top). Muahahahahahahaha

Yeti is insanely popular among our groups of friends. Most of them have boats and spend a lot of time outside. My mom and I split the cost of a $350 yeti cooler for my bro's birthday this year. It's actually crazy how expensive it all is!! Thankfully, DH doesn't get it either and is only interested in the cheaper coolers.

No. No no no to all of that! I see that as a form of child abuse
@TNvols27- is it my UO that I think parents like that should have their kids taken away for their actual physical well-being? My heart hurts for kids like that and my hands itch to SMACK the shit out of stupid people who don't act like the parents.
King sized beds should be mandatory for married couples.
Yes! Though right now our king still isn't big enough, lol.
Sadly, this is the case for us as well. Our 18lb boston terrier is the biggest bed hog ever.
My 85lb lab is the culprit with us. Luckily - for me - H has been sleeping on the futon most nights so I can try to get a decent sleep, & the dog always follows him!

Oh man see now this is NOT going to happen with my kids. When I grew up we rarely went out to eat at all. My mom cooked almost all the time and when she did it was fairly healthy. Also if we didn't eat what was on our plate, tough luck that was what we got. I'm not a picky eater at all and I am not going to let me kid get away with some of the stuff kids nowadays do. I can't stand parents who only feed their kid processed junk food!
@adiaz132003@June2016BabyW I know right!?! It drives H and I crazy!!! If he stayed with me, I would put fruit and veggies in front of his face and that's ALL he would be offered. Once he got hungry enough, I'm sure he'd eat it. Or he'd starve. And get this... For Christmas, MIL asked us to get him chickfila gift cards. FAST FOOD GIFT CARDS.... FOR A 5 year old!!!! (4 years old at the time)... Like, no. That's not happening. We laughed in her face. He got a backpack and art set from us. We refused to enable the obesity of our nephew.
@MamaNicoleof3 couldn't agree with you more!! If we say anything to his parents (H's sister) or my in laws, they get all pissy over it and insist nothing is wrong. They must be in denial. I don't see how they don't see what they are doing to him... He already gets made fun of at school. It's a really sad situation and the more I think about it- the more angry I get.
@TNvols27 as a kid who grew up overweight and has struggled with it her whole life, this makes me angry! I don't understand how a parent can be so hands off in raising their child that the child suffers things like obesity and behavioral problems that are completely preventable. I vowed when I got pregnant that my kids would not go through the struggles I went through. My daughter is a picky eater, but she will eat all fruits and some veggies, and I make sure to keep introducing her to healthy foods in a way that she will enjoy. I also make sure she gets lots of outside time to exercise and stay active. She doesn't have a tablet, rarely uses our phones, and we try to limit her TV time so she can have creative play. What happened to kids just being kids? We all survived without iPhones, iPads, cable tv in every room, etc. We went outside and played! And if we didn't eat what mom cooked, we didn't eat, period. If we misbehaved, we regretted it.
@Goocran17 I admire that so much. And just like you- it leaves me at a loss for words. I don't know how they don't see what they are doing to him. He doesn't go outside and play- he stays inside and watches Netflix. Whilst eating his chicken "nuggets". (Gag)... I hate it I really do.
Exactly! I played outside all the time as a kid and didn't have a tablet or Netflix to keep me inside. We survived and you never really heard of childhood obesity back then at all.
Exactly! I played outside all the time as a kid and didn't have a tablet or Netflix to keep me inside. We survived and you never really heard of childhood obesity back then at all.
Were you a child during the great depression? Are you immortal? Or.... OMG you guise... There's a time traveler on our board!
In response to the milk thing: I'm lactose intolerant, and can't even stomach lactose free milk, so I have to use almond milk (unless I'm baking then it's whole milk). H has no problems with dairy, but because I can't have it, he switched when we moved in together.
Im also on the limited screen time with little kids. My niece and nephew get an hour tops a day. Except at bedtime, when it's either one episode of something on Netflix or reading one chapter on the nook. My sister is teaching my nephew how to read and write his sight words, and they use a few educational apps for those, which is awesome, but they limit screen time.
I think it's unrealistic to eliminate any screen time or access to personal tech stuff for kids (past a certain age), since it's an inevitable part of society, and they'll likely need robust tech skills to succeed educationally and career-wise, even more so than all of us. Netflix, apps, etc seem like a great supplememental tool for teaching and some entertainment, used appropriately. I'll likely incorporate things like that for my kid, and encourage computer skills, etc.
Gigantic however, you can bet your tatas my kid will play outside, using their imagination, getting dirty, unglued from a screen as much as possible, too.
my almost 5 year old doesn't watch transformers, ninja turtles, Micky mouse, or the other popular cartoons his friends seem to love. We don't have cable, just Netflix, and he loves shows like Bill Nye the science guy, wishbone, Mr. Rogers, pbs science and nature documentaries, etc. I'm totally encouraging this
Omg, is Wishbone on Netflix? Or do you have DVDs? I used to watch that show all the time and totally forgot about it until I read your post! My kids watch the most annoying shows and I'm always trying to find ones that I can handle too!
I don't plan to even attempt to eliminate screen time for my kid. We used to sit at the dinner table (when we went out) and color and totally not pay attention to our parents or engage in conversation. I don't see any problem in letting a kid play a game on an tablet/phone whatever so they'll sit still at a restaurant and it can be an enjoyable experience for everyone... and that doesn't mean that the kid is doomed to a lifetime of never being exposed to outdoors.
That being said. I don't think kids under a certain age need access to their own technology. An iPad for a 5 year old? No way. I don't even want my kids having TVs in their bedrooms. I'm fine with there being more than one TV in the house, but they don't need their own. We have some friends who have a 18 month old with her own TV and they literally just put her in the room with the TV on and the baby gate up when we come over. And they constantly post FB photos of her watching her "favorite shows." I'm just like, bring her out so she can play! She's not bothering anyone. She doesn't even make attempts to talk/make noise or engage with anyone when she is around people and it's really sad to watch.
I've said it before but I'm saying it again...kids should not be sent to school when they are so sick they can't function! I have a student who (along with his brothers) has been so sick this week. I sent a note home with him yesterday because he couldn't focus at all, was falling asleep, went through 2 boxes of kleenex, & had an accident (he's 14) because of how sick he is...yet his parents still sent him today. And he's worse than he was yesterday! That is so unfair to him, but also to all of us who have to work with him. We work in a small room, the germs are everywhere! Ooooh if I end up sick...
This is how I got Hand, Foot and Mouth disease that ended up going to baby and almost killing him! Just because your child is non-verbal and can't say "I feel sick" does not mean you still send them to school! Have a little respect, keep the germs at home, and let your child rest for gods sake. K thanks.
Screen time: we are the family that has two kids watching something on our phones at a restaurant. However, it's usually classic pink panther (they are obsessed) and once food comes, they are put up. Restaurants are so slow bringing food sometimes ( even going so far as to bring the kids meals last! )and it's even worse when you have a hangry toddler who doesn't understand that yes, we are at the table, but no,food won't be ready for 20 more minutes. That being said, going out to eat with 2 toddlers is rare.

This is such a sensible outlook on technology. My husband is living in a dreamworld about wanting our kids to have no TVs, electronic toys, etc., etc. Everything in moderation. There's such a huge difference between letting electronics be a babysitter for you and using them appropriately.
And @DeePaddy24 YES, I so agree. And the poor kids don't usually have a choice in going to school or not, so they're totally at the mercy at their parents. I hate that people don't stay home when they are contagious and I majorly side-eye people who have no respect for their co-workers (or their kids's health and schoolmates).

Our library down the street has the DVDs of it. Sadly it's not on Netflix. It is a less annoying kids show
My UO (and someone may have said this a few weeks ago. If so I'm sorry for being a total thief) is that I think 3D/4D ultrasounds are stupid. Every last one that I've seen looks the freaking same. No they don't have your nose/eyes/mouth, they have the same damn features that every other fetus I've seen has. You know how they say all babies look really similar? Now rewind that by about 3 months more and that's what you're looking at. I could take a picture from the internet and claim it was my baby and I'm sure someone would start pointing out where the resemblances are.
YES! I know someone who is an OBGYN who says that there is an actual market for sculptures made from these images that are then painted pink or blue. SERIOUSLY?!?!?!?!
My daughter is SUPER picky and some days wont eat more than a single bowl of cereal in the entire day. Our rule for dinner was going to be if you don't like it, you don't eat--but because she eats so little our pediatrician recommended that if she tries dinner and doesn't like it to then offer her things like yogurt, cheese, fruit, or even crackers--something we don't have to prepare (although sometimes we will make her scrambled eggs or pasta) just to get her to eat something.
We have an iPad we allow her to play games on a few times a week---they are mostly educational games and usually as some kind of reward. I don't usually let her use it if we are waiting for an appointment, but my OB office is always running super behind so after about 20 minutes waiting patiently or coloring I will usually pull it out for her to play on.

In yo' box.
Agree - either you can have my toddler staring over the top of our booth at you - watching you eat, possibly picking her nose, or she can watch a few mins of a show on my phone until our food comes
