Ginger Tea

yay or nay?

I've had a few cups a week and just read conflicting information on safety. I'm pretty shocked considering I thought there are ginger candies out there for m/s. It really helps my nausea at work after lunch and I plan on asking at my first appointment (4/7). In the meantime, curious to know if anyone has been told anything about the safety of ginger?

Re: Ginger Tea

  • Hi! I didn't know that there is conflicting information about ginger...I've only been informed that it helps against m/s so have been drinking it too. I won't have an appointment until 28th..will you care to update the post after your appointment?

  • I second that. Have been getting m/s pretty bad for the last few days and went out and bought ginger tea. Keep us updated.

From what I understand, none of us could possibly be eating enough ginger for it to be a problem, right? Somebody tell me if I'm wrong.

That's what I'm hoping....that it's only a problem in extreme amounts. The Finnish government advises against any ginger use in pregnancy and even has warning labels on products so that's what made me have a slight panic.

  • I'm pretty sure it's more of a concern if you're taking ginger capsules as opposed to the occasional candy or mug of tea. It's recommended on UpToDate (medical resource, fully peer reviewed and scientifically backed) as a complementary therapy for morning sickness. If you were to consume powdered ginger or ginger capsules, the recommended dosing is 1-1.5g divided over the day (eg. 250mg capsule four times per day). They specifically recommend using ginger tea, ginger candies or other ginger containing foods.

  • I try to just keep it in moderation, but it is one of the questions I have written down for my first appointment.
