Re: March / April - IVF/FET

  • @Tulips29 I just triggered tonight. We were at a professional soccer game and had to ask an usher to find us a room in the arena so that my DH could give me the shot...oh the things we do! :) My ER is scheduled for Thursday.

That is so great that you were able to connect with someone one on one!

  • @Tulips29 yes I go tomorrow :) hope our appointments go well. Also, it's really great when you know someone who has been through this and can really understand. I grew close to a couple of ladies after they knew about our first ivf. They were going through infertility stuff and ended up doing ivf after me. I was able to tell them about my experience so they had an idea of what to expect. Of course every one is different. Still hoping and praying one gets pregnant bc she just has a huge heart and will be an awesome mom. The other friend did first transfer and it didn't work but then the last egg gave her her baby boy. Amazing. so so glad you got to bond with your friend like that. We moved and I've been missing my friends. We will be moving again before we know it though.
    @milanjayla good luck tomorrow!! :)
    @capps42613 congrats! That's awesome!
@ vssbrm yay! Glad the cyst is gone!!
@jenn6782 hopefully time flies by for you and fet is here soon. Hoping for great pgs results!
@taylormichele I haven't run into that and wish I could be more help.
@yelllow22 thanks and good luck Thursday! Hope you get some really great quality eggs. :) Busy week this week. My retrieval should be next week and transfer 5 days later probably. Don't blame you for not telling work about ivf. I find it easier personally not to have a lot of questions thrown at me and all. So you take 2 trigger shots? How are you feeling from the first one?
    March/April 2014- 1st ivf - bfp
    12/20/14- baby boy Alexander born
    november/December 2015 - 2nd ivf to try to give son a sibling- bfn :(
    march/April 2016- 3rd ivf (hoping for miracle)
  • @yellow22 No date set yet for FET. The waiting is really killing me though!  My REs office wants me on BCP for 2 weeks (on week 2) and I go in to get my schedule on Monday.  Traveling a bit during April so we have to figure out how to work around this!

  • @lilsweetheart115 I thought about it a lot and in my particular case it wasn't a good idea to say it. I would love to be open with everyone but for now only a few people know, which is another reason why I'm so happy I found you all.  With my IUI's I did 1 HGC trigger. This time it's different, from what I understand it has to do with preventing OHSS since they found a lot of eggs on my last us. Feeling fine, just a bit uncomfortable from the growth in my ovaries, thanks for asking!

  • Went in for my f/u ultrasound today, and the cyst is shrinking!  My regular RE saw me today, and is unconcerned about the cyst.  Plus, I have a nice follicle growing, so it looks like I *will* ovulate this time around.  Labs confirm that (despite the + OPT result) I did NOT ovulate last month.  New plan:  test for LH surge for the next three days.  If no positive result, I will do my HCG shot on Friday to trigger ovulation or at least slap my ovaries around a bit and encourage them to get with the program.  I will start the Estrace 3 days after either the LH surge or the HCG shot, then clomid a week later, along with follistim/menopur shortly after that.

I was prepared for bad news, like the 'this isn't going to work at all and you just wasted $5k on meds' kind of news.  Because those meds are literally chilling in my fridge right now.  But my RE is awesome.  She says she will whip my ovaries in shape and get 'em going.  We clarified that the chemo aging of my ovaries is the culprit for my whackadoodle cycle last month, and she is confident that we are going to make this work.  She recommended against us doing this ER based on my labs/etc in November, but is now pushing full force to get us some eggs.  We can always cancel everything before an actual attempted retrieval if very few follicles show up, so we won't necessarily be out another $11k unless we go through with everything and have actual success (some of the $ included in that total is the $$ for biopsying the embryos and sending samples for PGS & PGD)
Me: Age 38  Husband: Age 39
    Chemo killed my ovaries
Currently:1 female embryo frozen at blastocyte stage, graded 6AA with a BRCA1 mutation
    4/16 ER cancelled on CD7: 1 follicle on L/ 0 follicles on R
    Now planning FET 7/6/16
Also starting ER in June (my sister is donating eggs), and will try for a boy/second pregnancy
  • @Rachnan I was also told I will be on bc for 2 weeks, and I'm doing PGS too so my ET won't be until mid May. Hopefully time goes by quickly for you, that's good that you will be traveling, I know exactly what you mean, the wait is so difficult !

  • I spoke to my nurse today regarding the mock cycle to see if we can skip it and go straight to transfer.  She checked with my RE and he indicated that I have the option to, but he wanted to remind me that if I didn't do a mock cycle then he has no control of my lining and environment to ensure the most success on a FET.  After discussing this with my husband, we went ahead and agreed to the mock cycle.  My husband made a great point to me... We made it this far and if I skip the mock cycle and something happened to not go right after FET and it doesn't stick due to my lining or environment hen I will be upset at myself a s always wonder "what if".  So tomorrow I start the mock cycle and my tentative FET is on the week of May 23 which seems like a lifetime away...

@lilsweetheart115 good luck today at your appointment!

I just got back from mine. It looks like follies are starting to grow. I'm waiting for b/w results later today but doc said I need about another 4-5 days of injections and then he hopes my ER will be mid to end of next week. I'm hoping that will be the case as the wedding I'm going to falls on next Sunday and I'd love to be able to make it. For those who went to ER's, what was your recovery time? My doctor says it's typically recovery that day and I can go back to work the next day. Would love to hear your experience ladies.

  • @Tulips29 - I definitely took the day off my ER day, and also opted for the second day off after, though I was well enough that I could have gone in to work had I not been a physical education teacher for elementary school kids at the time. It's very likely you'll feel alright to go to the wedding.

good call in the end I feel @jenn6782 ! sometimes we just want to hurry through this process and move forward with our lives, but giving yourself the best shot possible will ensure you have no regrets! :)

@BingALing23 - how was the trigger? It's been a few years since I last did one... how does it compare to the other shots!!! ER tomorrow! You're so close! :) So exciting!!!

  • @Tulips29 my recovery lasted about 6 days. I over stimmed a lot though. Day 3 I was feeling better and kind of went over board with cleaning and catching up on things, that set me back an extra few days.

@jenn6782 I'm glad you ended up doing the mock transfer. I would have had the same worries if we didn't do it, you don't want to have any reason to blame yourself if it does not work the first time - but it will.

@Knottie1456036854 your doctor seems great! FX those follies grow and your retrieval goes without a hitch!!

@lilsweetheart15 how was your apt today?

  • @oxinfree @vssbrm thank you for your support!

    @milanjayla congrats and good luck!!!!

Had my initial appointment for the mock cycle... Basically I take an intramuscular shot of estradiol valerate every 3 days at a steady increase each dose, next Thursday I start on antibiotics for 3 days, and then the next day I go in for a hysterosonogram (HSS) and from there the RE determines if I need to continue increase my dosage of estradiol or stay the same.  5 days after the HSS, I add progesterone injections for the next 3 days and at the end of the 3 days I go in for an endometrial biopsy (which I heard horror stories about how much that hurts, anybody have a EB done before that can offer some insight?).  After the biopsy I stop all injections, they put me on birth control and at some point add in Lupron then the estradiol and the progesterone, but this time it'll be to prep for a FET toward the end of May.
  • @vssbrm I'll paste info about appt here for you: I just finished my appt. I still have 5 on left and 6 on right. 2 @ 14 on left and one 8 on left and ones on right are all smaller still. Only had 4 nights of meds so far.

update: just got call and I start ganirelix tonight. Half dose tonight and tomorrow then full dose fri-sun. I was supposed to have appts fri and Monday but doc said I can skip Friday since my cycles are pretty regular and everything usually progresses I guess. So now I don't have to make the 5 hour round trip drive yay! There are docs near me but our Doctor's main office is out of Pensacola and we used to live there so we had first ivf with him which was successful. We stayed with him for second one and now third one. We go to one of Offices closer to us. We know him and he knows my cycles so why not. Plus we had success that first time. I've gotten kind of used to the drive but I was extra tired today. Nice to be home. Bummed won't have that update on how things are going Friday though.

grow follicles grow!!! It's still early too.

I start meds tomorrow. I'm soooo anxious right now. It's strange cause this is not my first rodeo but it's been so long since I've done all this that I'm nervous. We've chosen not to tell anyone and DH will be asleep when I do my Stims so it's kinda strange this round. I've been reviewing my forum I was in in 2012 just to see where my mind was at this point even though my life is very different this round.

  • Down to 17 follicles today. A bit disappointing to have lost 4, but still a good number I suppose. I guess I'm just worried that I'll lose more before trigger/retrieval. Reminds me of the last time that we had 14, then down to 11, then retrieved only 9, only 8 were mature, and then only 4 fertilized, so I'm just really hoping for something stronger this go around. Gah. Stress of this process is creeping up on me. Waiting for further news about my levels etc. I can't remember the sizes but I think the smallest was 10, and biggest something like 15-17 (but I have a horrible short term memory so I could be out to lunch).

@thucks - normal to be anxious. I was in the exact same boat - did it before, but took a long break and really didn't want to mess it up. Drudged up a lot of old painful memories for me. Hope it goes well!

@milanjayla - wow! our first pupo! congrats. Looks like a beauty ;) now the dreaded 2ww. Any plans to deal with that?

@lilsweetheart - yay for making great progress even only at day 4 of stimms. Lookin' good friend  Ya, I'm feeling increasingly tired as each day goes by as well. I can't imagine having a drive on top of it.

@vssbrm - Funny you wish acupuncture lasted longer. Usually it is exactly perfectly the right amount of time for me. I'm just starting to get restless and she comes back in the room. I prefer my meditation time. Could listen to my mediations all day every day haha.

wow @jenn6782 - seems like an intense process for mock cycle. I've never done one myself, but very interesting. How are you feeling about it all today?

  • @oxinfree it's crazy how causal the docs are about it. It's just like riding a bike you'll just jump right back in. Umm NO I feel unprepared lol I had 3 iui's and a million appointments before my last IVF round I've only had 2 appointments this round. My restart with the IVF Doc and my baseline last week.

@lilsweetheart115 my first round of IVF I was a mess stressing out about what I ate took the week off after ET all that. Then round 2 I was bad I did all the no no's and it worked really well. It's giving me a refresher of what I have to look forward to though I forgot how bloated and fat I felt from stims and that the shots aren't really as bad as my mind makes it. My protocol is a bit different this round I guess over the years things change in meds.  I'm not looking forward to PIO shots this round.

  • @oxinfree hopefully you don't lose anymore follicles. My first cycle we had 6 mature looking ones and when retrieval happened they only got 3 eggs bc not every follicle had an egg I guess. I was devastated when found out they only got 3. Stressed until next morning when found out all 3 fertilized and stressed til day 3 when found out 2 still progressing. By day 5 we had one blast to transfer and one not quite blast and ended up having our little boy from that. So even with a small amount of eggs retrieved you can get pregnant. That's the crazy part of this process is how unpredictable things are. I had 5 eggs fertilized last time and all 5 were still good at day 3 but at day 5 just one blast again. No pregnancy. Crazy! You still have a lot of follicles so hopefully they just continue to grow and mature for you nicely. Thanks for the update. When do you go back?

  • @thucks oh pio is no fun! We didn't have to do those shots the first ivf in 2014 but did them in December for 3 days. I think I may have been lucky to only do them 3 days compared to what some people might have to do but definitely no fun. Not looking forward to that but hoping everything goes well. Yeah I'm never super careful about diet and stuff when going through ivf. I figure as long as I stay a nice weight then it's all good. Ha. I might've did better during first cycle but can't remember really. gosh I'm glad to not have to drive Friday but kind of bummed I have to wait til Monday to see how everything is progressing. On Monday morning when I go in I will have had 9 nights of meds. So I'm thinking they'll have me trigger Monday or Tuesday night. Hope all of the retrievals go great!!

  • @lilsweetheart115 dang, girl. You're only on day 4 and you're already steps ahead of me, so we may get out of sync with our scheduled. I'm on day 5 and only today they saw slow follie growth. They sent me my protocol for the next 2 days and I'm doubling my dosages. Hopefully that will do the trick. They think my ER will be mid-end of next week. Thinking yours will be sooner since you're responding so well to the injections.

  • @Tulips29 pretty sure my retrieval will be wed or thurs at earliest. I don't go back til Monday. I have three follicles leading the pack right now and the ganirelix should help some of the others catch up. At least that's what we hope. It takes 9-10 days of meds for me to be ready for trigger. I don't get many eggs bc of low egg count so I'm on highest dose of meds I think. Speaking of meds, does everyone know there is extra medicine left in the follistim cartridges? We have 900 iu cartridges so that's 3 doses for me in each cartridge. Well, there is like another 150 left in there after you use the 900. Or close to it I think. So make sure to use all of it. Docs and nurses never told us that before but my main nurse I work with told me to make sure to use it all so we don't waste any. It may mean some extra pokes but it's worth it. I mean those meds are so expensive! I'm so glad they increased your doses. What will your doses be now if you don't mind my asking? Sometimes it just takes higher doses to get those follicles growing more. Hopefully that does the trick. You go back Friday?

  • @oxinfree it does sound intense doesn't it? I have mixed feelings... On one hand I'm glad my doctor has this option to up my chance of success, on the other hand this just adds more to the wait time and anxiety.  I kinda in a way wish the mock cycle isn't an option at the clinic I go to... Ignorance is bliss right?  I'm sure I'll have good days and bad days between now and the FET.  I'll keep you guys posted.
  • @lilsweetheart115 my dosage has been 150 IU of gonal f in the mornings and 1 vial of menopur in the evenings. Today they told me to increase gonal f to 225 IU and keep menopur same. I don't get follisfim since I had gonal f left over from my iui cycles so using that up. It's in vials so now I'll have to mix 3 of them into 1 injection which is ok. It's easy to work with. Menopur is harder for me since there's always resistance in the syringe getting the liquid out and it also stings a bit going in. I go back on Friday so hopefully this increased dosage will help speed up those follicles. I have 0 on my left and 12 on the right less than 11 mm in size. Doc said they need to get to about 18 mm before I can trigger.

  • I also realized I misspoke in my earlier comment where I said they are doubling my dosage. It sounded like it was double the original when the nurse called me. Then she sent me the detailed email and I realized it's only 1 extra vial of gonal f. Still hoping that does the trick

  • @Tulips29 oh good! Hopefully that increase in dose will do the trick and if not they can probably just increase again. Things will probably look quite different on ultrasound Friday with the increased meds. Fingers crossed!! Please update us Friday. I'll be in limbo til Monday since no appt Friday. I'll just try to stay positive that everything is cooperating.

  • @lilsweetheart115 I hope so too! Otherwise if they double again then my ER will likely not happen next week. As long as it's not on the 10th (friend's wedding day) I'm all good! Fx for you on Monday as well. Just keep busy and the time will fly by! Based on your response to medication I have no doubt everything will look perfect on Monday!

  • @mummysmomma good luck Sunday! And oh those progesterone shots are awful! I had to do them last ivf cycle and my butt was sore for days. Just think 2 days down which means 2 days less of those shots.
@tulips29 thanks so much! Well after your labs Friday if they decide to increase doses again you could still possibly retrieve next week. Most likely before the 10th I would think. Hopefully you won't be on meds too long. As long as they grow big enough for retrieval and give you good eggs then it's ok if have to do meds a little longer, right? Though trust me I wouldn't want to have to do it any longer than originally supposed to. We're walking pincushions here. Oh I had half dose ganirelix tonight and ouch! And for some reason all my meds hurt a little more tonight. Maybe hubby taking out frustration from work or something?! Lol! Actually I think he may have restuck a spot we've already used? Yikes! Anyway I'll try to make sure he stays away from that area tomorrow night. Ganirelix burns much more than other stuff. Oh @tulips29 are you doing ganirelix yet?

  • @BingALing23 omg I just read your post about doing trigger shot in a room at the arena! Lol! The things we do. One time when we were doing timed intercourse cycles I had a bachelorette party to go to and knew my meds would be while we were at this nice seafood restaurant. My husband always does them and I knew I wouldn't want to ask the bride to interrupt her night for it and I didn't want everyone knowing about it. So I knew my best friend would be going who knew about my stuff so I asked her if she could do for me. Ladies restroom in a stall together I just raised up my dress for her to stick me with the follistim. She started to freak out on me and I was worried I'd have to do it or get someone else to. She was worried it was like an Epi pen and she'd have to jab it in. I was like oh no no no! Just gently put it in. She ended up doing great! We had a good laugh about it afterwards. :) so why'd you tell the usher you needed a room? That's great you found a way to do that in private.

@oxinfree fx those follies stay put and keep growing. Sending you and your follies all the positive growth energy!
@lilsweetheart115 I was ( really am still) so annoyed by the fact that there are meds left in the vials. I wanted to just poke myself twice and use up all the meds, but my husband was too worried to do it, because that is not what they told us to do. So j saved the vials just in case. We have at least a few days worth of meds in all those vials... Hopefully we will not need them tho!
