that's what I do. add a little salt, if an egg cracks it keeps the white in the shell.
I cover the eggs with water by 1". Bring water to a boil. As soon as it boils, put a cover on it, remove from heat and leave the eggs in the water for 18 minutes covered.

I know how to boil an egg, LOL, I just didnt know the trick to make the shell come off without taking half of the egg with it, plus, my eggs would crack a lot of the time.
Thanks to your tips, we had some perfect eggs for our egg salad.
The best way is to put the eggs in the pan, bring to a boil, once the water is boiling, turn stove off and put the lid on the pan, let them sit there for 10 min. If you do it that way there will be no green around the yolk. They are just perfect that way.
funny dh and I can never remember from one time to the next how to do it either and we just so happend to boil eggs tonight too. I think we've done it multiple ways but tonight we did it like brightning but only left covered away from heat for 12 min. hopefully they turned out okay, we haven't eaten any yet. I wonder what difference it would make if we'd left covered longer??
