Dockatot

We are considering purchasing a Dockatot for our almost 2 month old. Right now he is sleeping in the Mamaroo right next to our bed. He wakes up one to two times a night. I want to start transitioning him to the crib and have read good reviews on the Dockatot. Does it really work? Is it worth the investment?

Re: Dockatot

  • My friend got it because she was told she HAD to have it another friend...she used it once. She said it was a huge waste of money.

I got one.  Is it expensive?  Yes.  Does it look like a glorified dog bed?  You betcha.  I finally started getting some sleep from the first night we used it though.  My son still wakes up to nurse but he falls back to sleep immediately.  My sanity was worth the $$.
ETA:  We've been using it to cosleep.  We're going to transition over to the bassinet this weekend.  I don't forsee any problems except for separation anxiety on my part :)
  • I had to google it because I've never heard of it.

I'd save your money and just roll up receiving blankets instead! That's what I did with both of my kids. Rolled up small, thin blankets and put them under the fitted sheet in the crib. Voila! Does the same thing that Dockatot does but for WAY less. Worked well for both of my kids too.

  • My son has been sleeping in the DockATot for over a week now and while it hasn't been the miracle sleep solution some people say it is, he has been sleeping better in it than he did in his bassinet. He is 7 weeks old and sleeps for a 5-6 hour stretch during the first part of the night and goes back to bed easier than he did in his bassinet (and sleeps for 3-4 hour stretch after that) I think it is great for safe cosleeping and helps him not startle as easily. We use it in conjunction with other good sleeping habits (swaddle, not turning on the lights during the nighttime feeding, not taking too long of naps during the day, etc). I think it was worth the money.
  • We have it and LOVE it. We used it to transition our 15 week old from the swing to the crib. After very minimal fussing, he falls asleep on his own and is sleeping 7 hours before waking up to breastfeed.
Looking forward to traveling with it! I'm sure it will make sleeping in a new place much easier on him.
Worth the money IMO. Hope that helps!
