Morning Sickness Still??

Hi All,

I'm 12.5 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I've had some morning sickness though not bad at all! Anyway I'm told that it is supposed to start getting better now but in the past two weeks it has gotten progressively worse. Is anyone else having this? Any thoughts?

Re: Morning Sickness Still??

  • I'm 16 weeks tomorrow and still have nausea even with taking Diclegis two times a day. I think it just depends on the person. There's some unlucky people that have it their whole pregnancy. I'm crossing my fingers that's not me. I now have GERD added onto the nausea which has made it worse. Imagine feeling like food is stuck in your throat and feeling like you're going to throw up. I sneezed this morning and almost threw up.

I'm on Diclegis so thankfully mine's been in check. With my daughter, however, I had morning sickness up until about 15 weeks. Hang in there!

Everyone is different, and some women suffer from MS throughout their second and even their third trimesters. What you're experiencing sounds pretty normal to me.

    This Is Me...! @jackiel1987
I hate that 'stuck in your throat' feeling and had a terrible last few days of sickness that it actually got me worried and I went to see midwife yesterday. Relieved everything is ok with baby and got to hear the HB for the first time.
Midwife said if it continues then the doctor will prescribe something to help and just to monitor that im not becoming dehydrated if I cant keep food or water down.
It seems to have eased up now but cant wait till it stays away!
    16 weeks tomorrow too... :)

I am 16 weeks today and I woke up without an ounce of nausea for the first time two days ago. Like PP said, everyone is different, but I think a lot of people start feeling better after week 14-15. Mine lingered to week 19 with DD #1.

I didn't start having MS until week 11, and I threw up at the start of week 12. It's gotten better since then, but I have to be careful with certain smells, food textures, and brushing my teeth or I start dry heaving for hours. Apparently it's all normal, so long as you are able to keep some food/liquids down. The magic of pregnancy.

  • With my first, I was horribly sick through 16 weeks. I don't really remember much about the sickness with my second except that it was way better than with my first.

This time I had days of nausea and lots of food aversions, but for the most part it's been tolerable. Then at 13 weeks, things got crazy. The nausea is really bad and I'm pretty much vomitting every other day. I'm really hoping that it slows down or goes away. I forget how miserable it is feeling like this. Just since last night, I threw up 3 times. If I drink water, forget about it. I am 15w1d today.

  • I'll be 14 weeks tomorrow and I throw up on average 5-10 times a day. I have been trying to tough it out as long as possible, but like you, it's getting worse not better. I finally decided I can't live like this anymore and emailed my doctor yesterday begging for help. She decided to put me on Zofran. According to her, the risks associated with Zofran lessen in your second and third trimesters. She said throwing up numerous times a day is going to take its toll on my physical and emotional wellbeing, so at this point it just not worth it anymore. I went and got my prescription last night and have not felt this great in I dont know how long. Can you ask your doctor if maybe there is a medication you can try?
  • 14 weeks today and threw up this morning after thinking I was done with morning sickness...*sigh*
  • I had zero MS with DS1 and have had non stop MS with this one, 15w5d. It has gotten significantly better over the last week or so.  I barfed yesterday but before then it had been about 4 days.  And before then it was at least twice a day starting around week 5.

  • 15 weeks 2 days and still sick over here :(
  • 14 weeks 6 days and I am still vomiting multiple times a day. I had to take a leave of absence from college because it's been so bad :( even with the zofran.

I'm hoping that it will stop eventually!  I hope yours does as well

  • With my first pregnancy I had no sickness, no symptoms period throughout pregnancy. I gained 50 lb, but otherwise I probably could have been on the show "I didn't know I was pregnant". I thought there was something wrong because I was never sick...for anyone else who doesn't have morning sickness--count yourself lucky!

With the second I was still pretty OK. From ~9-14 weeks I would have off days, I wouldn't really say morning sickness, but certain smells would get me. We had 3 consultants from India in our office and they would heat up their Indian Cuisine every day, the smell would fill the building and I'd be so grossed out. I wouldn't say I was ever that nauseous, just a little bit when I'd think of certain foods or smell certain things.

This time from 6-9 weeks I felt gross all day every day. I never threw up, but felt off, tired, no food sounded good. I could eat bagels, Cheetos, Jolly ranchers or Gin-Gins to calm my stomach, potatoes...basically bland carbs. From then until now (12 weeks 3 days) I've had evening ick feeling. So I get home from work sit down with my family and start to feel gross, and it got worse this last week. I love the show FRIENDS and I laugh because when Phoebe is pregnant she says "you know morning sickness, well I get mine at night." Well that seems to be me! I really have nothing to complain about, I haven't thrown up and it could always be worse.

You'll likely get better and return more to your normal self soon. Remember 2nd trimester doesn't technically begin until 14 weeks. And there are some women who do feel sick into their 2nd or even 3rd trimester, this isn't the norm but it does happen. Hang in there!

  • Yup. I threw up yesterday. 14w 4d. Everyone at work was like, isn't morning sickness supposed to be over?  Yeah.... Apparently not.....
  • 16 weeks tomorrow and just this past week I've started to feel human and only puked once unexpectedly! 12 weeks is when my morning sickness hit HARD and I puked multiple times a day every day which was so different from my first. You just never know what to expect with pregnancy!
  • With my first child I had 24/7 nausea until 7 months. This time I only get nauseous if I don't eat frequently or catch a smell of something horrible. Every person & every pregnancy is different. Hang in there!

  • 16 weeks and MS is still here. Last time it went away during the third trimester. I was the happiest person in the third trimester ever! I was practically skipping every day because I was so happy to not be feeling awful! Good luck!

  • I'm 13wks 3days & I've been on meds for a couple of weeks now. Ironically my morning sickness got worse yesterday. It's so weird.I'm learning that there are a lot of surprises in store. All the best ladies
  • 12w1d. Aside from nausia  that comes and goes feeling pretty good. That terrifies me a bit. Had a mmc last fall and worried about the second thing happening again. Go in for an ultrasound in 2 hours and am totally freaking out. Wish me luck

Lots & lots of good luck. Everything will be ok.
  • I've had morning sickness through entire pregnancy with my first two. This one seems like it's going to be the same.

  • My MS lasted til 17 weeks with my first pregnancy.  Then it lightened up and went away fully during the last half of my pregnancy.
  • 13w2d still have horrible MS & have HG. Have been taking zofran & phenergan since 7 weeks. Thought I was getting better this week but then took a turn for the worse and couldn't keep anything down again so back to the Dr for more IVs. Hoping it won't get bad enough again to get me re-admitted to the hospital. Praying this won't last too far into the second trimester. All the throwing up & being unable to do anything has really gotten me down. Also getting really frustrated at all the ppl who keep advising me to just try some crackers & gingerale.

Can I ask how you were diagnosed with GERD? I think I may have it as well. Just curious as to how they did and if they've given you anything on top of your diclegis?
  • I am feeling sick and sad today! Thought you guys would understand!!!
  • I can't stand when people tell me to eat crackers or drink ginger ale!
Like obviously I've tried that. @nmtaylor1616

  • I went to the emergency room last night for the second time... I was so dehydrated and the zofran wasn't doing anything... The nurse in the ER tried to tell me to try ginger chews and unisom/b6 combo... I was like um don't you think I've done all that already!? I just wish there was more they could give me to help
  • I thought I was in the clear last week, but it seems to have returned. Ugh. I'm 14 weeks and started feeling nauseous again at night and today during the day with a terrible headache.
  • Same thing here - I was good for a week. Thank heavens I ate like crazy that week! (I'm convinced now it was only bc I was so stuffy I couldn't smell)

Last 2 weeks it's come back and the last few days I've only been able to eat bland starchy stuff. I'm 17w tomorrow and hope it improves soon.

Zofran helps but I don't want to take it too often.

Heres hoping my September buddies start feeling better soon!
  • I'm 14 weeks and got headaches most of the days. Is that normal?? Not terrible headaches but mild ones :(

  • 14 weeks tomorrow. I had one vomit free day yesterday and had high hopes that I was in the clear since I am approaching the 2nd trimester. Until this morning...back to the usual. Started w /zofran then the diclegis and last appt they gave me the phenergan. Non of it has helped.
Glad I ran into this thread again today, I was feeling really down about it for some reason and not that I'm "glad" others are still suffering but it is a bit comforting to know I am not alone at the moment.

  • My nausea suddenly stopped around 12 weeks. I was nervous because of my miscarriage at 12w 3d last year, however with my previous three pregnancies I remember it tapering off at some point. I'm almost 17 weeks, and the nausea/aversions suddenly hits at random times, even though I thought it was over!

@eagregg Sorry it's been so long. I haven't been active lately. They diagnosed me with GERD when I was about 14 years old. I was complaining of having pains pretty much every time I ate. They made me drink barium and then watched it go down my throat to my intestines on some kind of x-ray machine.

Edit: I only half way answered you! The GERD comes and goes for me. Sometimes for weeks at a time I will have problems and then nothing. I take ranitidine for it. Lately I've been using Zantac 150 and it helps for the most part as long as I remember to take it way before eating and then don't eat too much.
