Re: The Names You Want Opinions On Thread

  • So true! I love Harper but I can't get over the popularity. I think of calling my daughter's name at a playground and having 5 little girls respond lol

  • @TattoosandLace I love the name Everett Marshall. Everett is such a handsome, classy name, and one of the few boys names that both my husband and I like.
  • @TattoosandLace
love Everett! It was on our short list

  • @TattoosandLace love Everett Marshall. My last name is Marshall and if we were having a boy my top name pick was Benjamin Everett Marshall. Hubby hates the name Ben so I got vetoed...good thing we're having a girl! Lol
  • @MamaBish *lurking from O16* We named our DD Dylan, but gave her the super feminine MN of Rose. I honestly couldn't imagine her being anyone but Dylan

  • what are your thoughts on the name Dylan Isla for a girl. I have always loved the name Isla and my husband and I love the name Dylan for a girl... both are water names, and we love the water. what do you think?
I really love Isla. Not a fan of Dylan on a girl.

What is everyone's thoughts on the name Rowan. Do you recognize it as a male or female name?
I see Rowan as a boy's name - it's one of my favourites
  • Thoughts on Violet Rose?

Basically family names - Violet was my nana's only sister of 13 siblings, and Rose was my mom's godmother's name and what my mom's name meant (Sharon) who passed within weeks of each other back in 2014.

Hubs says it sounds like "Brown Wood" and suggested "Roxie Rose" (which just makes me think of ice cream... but I admit, is starting to grow on me).

  • Not a fan of Roxie, but I like Violet. Violet Rose sounds a little busy to me given they're both colors and flowers so I don't know if I would pair them as one name.
  • @said8me I love Violet. I don't know about two flower names however they are beautiful names separately
  • Right on @theshannondee & @Weville. I think that was the point hubs was trying to make. ;) Back to the drawing board!

  • @said8me I love violet. It's so sweet and I'm always a sucker for names starting with "V" - I don't know why haha. I think Violet Rose is really sweet. Your husband is being a turd saying it sounds like brown wood.. Haha. I think it's feminine and beautiful. I, however, really dislike Roxie. Roxie Rose is especially weird sounding to me.
  • @maddmama thanks! My 1st is named after a superhero, and I wanted to do the same for #2. There's (Shy) Violet from Rainbow Brite and the daughter in Incredibles.

I think it's a beautiful name, and I really love using family names. I'm not a huge fan of the name Roxie. I feel like it's either a dog or a crazy person (just my personal experiences  speaking here...not saying there aren't perfectly sane women that I've never met named Roxie).
  • I'm not a fan of Roxie for a baby name. But then again I have a dog named Roxy so now I think of dogs every time I hear it.
  • Thanks for all the input, ladies! I didn't want her name to sound stagy or close to Ruby Rose... but matchy was sort of in the back of my mind because DS is Remy Reed. We have a long last name so I'm trying to keep the first/middle names short.

  • So we are naming our daughter Arwyn. This is a rare old Welsh name. Also Arwen is a popular character in Lord of the Rings (I am a HUGE lotr fan).
Anyways, yesterday my landlady came by to drop off a bunch of baby clothes for us. She asked what we're naming her and I told her Arwyn. Her jaw dropped and she told me her friend who is due 2 days after me is also naming her girl Arwyn!! We live in a pretty small town and I was just shocked! Haha just a funny story. There are barely any Arwyns in the world but there will be 2 in our small town! Crazy!

This. Roxie/roxy is a great nickname,  but not a name I'd want to put on top of a resume, unless I was applying at Roxy/ Pacific Sun.

Roxanne/Roxana would give the more options as they grow up and would still be unheard of in their generation.
I was going to suggest a longer name as well, because I think that it is cool for a nickname, but that it should be longer as a full name. I also don't like it paired with Rose......it sounds stripper-ish to me. I knew a little girl named Roxanne Elise, and she went by Roxie.

  • Having a tough time picking a name for DS 2. DH loves the name Hunter and is dead set on it. Although I love that name too, I'm worried it might be too popular? Although I don't think it's excessively popular..
Anyway I really like the name Abel, was just wondering which name you ladies liked better
  • @summerfunxo I really like Hunter best of the two. Abel is all biblical to me. We are not religious at all so not what I am going for...not sure where you stand on that but I would anticipate everyone connecting the two.
  • @Natinat6 I'm not religious at all either lol, and I know that Abel was the brother who was murdered. I guess I was just wondering if that's all people would think of.

This. I have had a couple of friends use the name Abel (two that are already almost a year old, one that the mom is still pregnant with), and they are all really religious. So when I hear the name, the first thing I think of is the Bible and assume the parents are pretty religious....

  • @summerfunxoJust my opinion but I think if you don't want that association, Abel might not be the right choice.

I personally don't know any kids named Hunter. I think it's cute and very preppy. Which works for me.
  • Looking like were going to have a Hunter! Lol I do love that name as well.
My DH will celebrate haha :p
  • @summerfunxo I love Hunter and it was at the top of my list.  My DH vetoed it because he's a hunter (along with his family and mine) so was afraid people would think that's why we chose the name.

  • I don't know where you live, but in Alberta we have a government name registry and it shows every name used in 2015 and previous years and how many of that name were used. If your worried about popularity check into if your area if you have a government website like this as well..

    https://www.servicealberta.gov.ab.ca/1163.cfm

There is the link to ours! It might help finalize your decision I know it did for me!
  • I just read through all 27 pages in the thread-- wow. Lots of insight and information.

DH and I haven't come up any names whatsoever at this point, which isn't entirely surprising to me. We picked DD's first name about a month before my due date and then her MN only a few hours before she was born.

    We'll come to a decision eventually! :)

  • @summerfunxo My vote is for Hunter. We actually considered Cain as a name, but we quickly struck it from the list given that we aren't overly religious and because the name carries a pretty negative connotation (being the one who murdered his brother and all). I echo PP's - if you don't want the association with the Biblical Abel, you might want to nix it. I'm not sure what you're looking for in a name, but one that reminds me a lot of Abel is "Caleb"... probably just because it contains all of the same letters, minus the C, and is the same number of syllables.

We have one of those in the States as well. It is the Social Security Administration baby name list. They come out with the previous years results, each year around Mother's Day. People are able to search and get overall results, and also results in each state.

  • I guess maybe I just know a lot of people obsessed with the show, but every little boy I know named Abel, was named so because of the baby in Son's of Anarchy. That is also immediately where my mind goes when I hear that name. That being said, most people are going to have an association with most any name. Figuring out how much that is going to bother you, can help you figure out where you stand on that name.

My GP girl name is Winsome--- like the prostitute from the last season of SOA...
  • Adonis.  It's too much right?  DH is Greek and it's the only name so far we both like but we feel like it's a bad idea.
Open to other ideas.  It doesn't have to be greek but those are the names we tend to agree on.
