Freaking Easter Egg hunts at every kid function is getting me irritated.
I love me some Easter, but holy crap I've had to buy 50 egg combinations, plus candy, and remember no peanut butter or choking hazards! So I went with stickers. Some lady brought WOODEN eggs because plastics. I am understanding about the environment, but for goodness sakes. I reuse the shit out of my plastic eggs. I love egg hunts when I can hide the eggs and the kids can go find them. Having all the rules and regulations for schools (my daughter goes to preschool and an elementary speech development program ECI) makes the egg thing NOT fun, but a huge pain in my ass.
I still do it but the restrictions are getting ridiculous.
My UO is that while I love you ladies being all wild and crazy for eating sandwiches (I partake in them from time to time, too), I will not go back to a Jimmy Johns again because it supports the CEO's hobby. The CEO is an avid trophy hunter. He kills elephants, rhinos, zebras, leopards, etc. and poses next to them... I just can't support that.
OMG I wish I was still in ignorance on this one. I really like JJ's salad wrapped option and freaking A. Why?! Oh well. Just don't tell me anything compromising about Schlotzky's . I freaking love their original and if I had to boycott cinnabon I might cry forever.
I didn't know this either! NOOOOOO! There's also a firehouse in my neighborhood which I like just as much so I guess that's where I'll be headed.

But, I'm like, really sad to learn that about Jimmy Johns. I've never heard of Firehouse Subs but apparently there is one in the next town over from me! I'm going to have to try that out instead!
Steak is ruined for me for the next seven months. I can't bring myself to eat it well done. YUCK!
oooh.. I must be super daring because I will eat medium. I am a medium-rare kind of girl.. so I've compromised by eating medium... I can't do well done either!
Sorry about the JJ info.. it's true, though. I prefer toasted bread and melty cheese anyways.. I could care less about the meat.. but give me some melty chese! Wawa has had to be my go-to place for sandwiches.
This one is unpopular with my friends who are already parents: I think that stepparents should have more rights when it comes to their step kids. I think it's ridiculous that I can't take my stepson to the doctor when he's sick, but I'm legally required to cover him under my insurance. I don't mind doing the latter, but hubby or his ex have to take days off work to take him to the doctor when I'm almost always available to do it.
I take my stepson all the time to the drs, I never even knew there was anywhere that wouldn't allow you.

I prefer medium. Maybe further down the line, I'll throw caution to the wind and have one medium well. Although I'm not sure that would be enough "pink" to satisfy a craving!
Here's mine: Tater tots are gross. I love hashbrowns, but only like diner-style with lots of ketchup and salt. But I will not touch a tater tot. Yes, I understand they are all the same thing.
@Piperella I didn't know that about jimmy johns! I feel the same way about Chick-fil-A though... Their food is amazing but I hate everything the company stands for so I can eat there anymore. It's a major bummer.
I think mayonnaise is disgusting! It smells weird and tastes nasty. I don't get it. When I make chicken salad or something like that usually requires it I use plain Greek yogurt or sour cream (or a mix of the two). I think it tastes exactly the same or better. And it's not greasy/heavy from the mayo.

I've always hated mayo! It's so very disgusting. I only eat tuna salad/chicken salad /egg salad if I make it so that I can control the amount of disgusting. I'll give the Greek yogurt trick a try! I never even thought of that!
I love Sea World and am so sad they are getting rid of the orca shows. Yes, I've watched Black Fish and done my research, but my opinion is that Sea World treats those animals well.
We used to have a Sea World in Ohio and growing up my parents took us every single year. The Shamu show was the best, and on two different occasions each of my brothers got to go on stage and pet and feed Shamu! How cool is that?!

Ahhhh I have so many feelz on this subject! Ultimately I don't think it matters how "well" an Orca is treated in captivity. If it lives in a tank, it's being abused.
Recently there was a 100+ year old Orca sighted off New Zealand. In captivity, they're lucky to live to 20. There's no excuse for that.
celette482: I am with
you on this one! It took all my strength not to roll my eyes at that one. I
mean just don't get a ham sandwich from a gas station or something, you
know, be smart about it. Know your sources and you should be fine. @owlcupHeating up the meat just sounds revolting. It's like, can we not make eating any more
difficult, please? lol
krzyriver: My husband
takes my daughter (his stepdaughter) to the doctor and stuff without one of her
biological parents present. It never even occurred me that it would be a
problem, so I never even checked with anyone about it.
Piperella: I am with you
here! 10w4d, still don’t want pickles. Didn’t want them the last time either. Pickles
are disgusting. Also, I did not know about the trophy hunting of the CEO of JJs. That’s
so disappointing. I try not to support companies with shitty CEOs or policies,
so now I’m bummed out. =(

Except for that whole living in teeny tiny tanks and getting bored enough to kill people thing. And they don't live nearly as long in captivity as they do in the wild. But hey, it's all for money and fun right?

I love it. For chicken salad I do half Greek yogurt half sour cream. For Easter I'm making deviled eggs and just replacing the mayo with Greek yogurt and it tastes great! I think the only reason DH says he can "taste" a difference is because it's all in his head lol
I had no idea about Jimmy Johns and that really sucks But as much as I hate it (and same goes for Chick Fil A), I can't say I'll stop going there because unfortunately me boycotting them will not change their minds about their actions nor will it affect their businesses enough to shut them down. I hate Donald Trump but I'm not going to move to Canada if he becomes President.
I have absolutely no interest in ever going to (or taking my kids to) Sea World though.
I agree tanks could be bigger. The people dying is awful but one death was a drunk guy who snuck in and jumped in the tank after hours. Not the whales fault. Some of the other drownings were accidental in things like the whale thought they were playing. You take that job getting in the tank you take that risk. Never said I was for the people in the shows. Although if someone wants to do that I'll def watch.
it bothers me how I know some people that are so vehemently anti-Sea World yet have no problem with zoos.
I was feeling bad about never having Jimmy Johns until what @Piperella posted... yeeeah I'm ok with never having now!
Last pregnancy I was SUPER careful and paranoid about what I ate...fully cooked everything, no lunch meats, no soft cheese, yada yada... and I got E. COLI! WTF? I'm still pretty paranoid this time around, but damn now I want a sub.

Bigger tanks wouldn't allow them to live longer or experience life as they would in the wild.
And don't worry, I'm anti-zoo too. I haven't brought DS to one yet because I can't find one that's ethical enough or focuses enough on conservation for my taste. But I'm also anti-swimming with dolphins, anti-Barnum and Bailey's Circus and anti-eating animals. Animal rights for the win!
ETA: If DS wants to see a whale, we'll go on a whale watch. If he wants to see an elephant, he's probably shit out of luck.
Yeah, I'm with the majority here on the seaworld issue. I'm pretty anti-seaworld. Living in socal, if my kids school went on a field trip there, I wouldn't let them go.
Apparently the AZA has a tough accreditation to earn and something like less than 10% of zoos and aquariums actually earn it. From the site:
"The Accreditation Commission evaluates every zoo or aquarium to make sure it meets AZA's standards for animal management and care, including living environments, social groupings, health, and nutrition. We also make sure that animals are provided with enrichment, which stimulates each animal's natural behavior and provides variety in their daily routine.
The Accreditation Commission also evaluates the veterinary program, involvement in conservation and research, education programs, safety policies and procedures, security, physical facilities, guest services, and the quality of the institution's staff. And because a zoo or aquarium needs a strong foundation in order to continue to meet high standards, accreditation also evaluates each institution's finances, its governing authority, and its support organization. In other words, we look at everything!"
The first link will let you search for an accredited zoo or aquarium near you.
@PeggyOlsonFTW I was so upset when the Pittsburgh Zoo lost its accreditation this past summer just as we were moving here. Apparently they refused to change their elephant habitat to adhere to the requirements. Which is odd that they wouldn't make the changes because they're known for their (off-site) elephant sanctuary.
@PeggyOlsonFTW Thanks for sharing that link. I'm relieved to see our local zoo is on the list. I still have mixed feelings about it, but it's nice to know the zoo I've been going to my whole life is a good one as far as zoos go.
This is a neat link @PeggyOlsonFTW , thanks for this! So glad San Diego Zoo is accredited. I love going to the zoo here, and love going to the Safari Park. Even though the SD Zoo is accredited, I have a hard time seeing the lions... for some reason I feel like their cage is just too small.... All the other animals look happy and have lots of space to roam about.
I am super anti-Seaworld. After watching The Cove and then Blackfish, I just cannot understand how anyone could support them. I see friends on FB post about their trips to SeaWorld, and the level of respect I have for them just goes down a notch, every time.
They shut the Vegas zoo down a year or two ago because of how deplorable the conditions were for the animals. It was actually really sad and should have been shut down YEARS ago.
Thank you for sharing that link @PeggyOlsonFTW, I would have been so disappointed if the aquariums and zoos weren't accredited at Disney World, since I work for the Walt Disney Co. Happy to know they made the list and are good places to visit.
Married 11-11-11 TTC only since Dec 2015. I had some weight to get off. Been working hard in the gym for over a year. BFP 02-15-16 with our first IT'S A BOY!!!
@PeggyOlsonFTW thank you for that link! We don't do the circus but I've always felt pretty good about our zoo that I've gone to since I was a kid and our local aquariums. I was super excited to see all of the bigger zoos and aquariums in my state are on that list. That makes me happy.
