Wtf to the dude drinking an airplane size vodka at 11 am and then throwing the empty bottle into oncoming traffic? I was near port authority so I shouldn't be that surprised, but seriously. The garbage can was no more than 5 feet away.
WTF to waking up in the middle of the night with a terrible sore throat... about two days after I recovered from one of the worst colds ever. Was fine with getting sick once, feel like it should happen every once in a while to keep my immune system on track, but didn't need to get sick another time! Headed to the doctor later today, hoping they can find a magical cure for me.
I hope you're feeling better!! I might be weird but my throat gets dry and sore at night because I'm snoring so much. There is nothing I can do about it except drink water every time I wake up and be grateful that my H doesn't say anything even though I know I must be so loud. Pregnancy is not cute.
WTF to my toilet randomly clogging and overflowing while DH and I were both at work, causing some serious ceiling damage to the apartment below us. Can a toilet clog and just slowly overflow? Cause DH swears nothing seemed wrong when he left after his lunch. I AM grateful we're renting so I didn't have to clean it up or pay for any damage, but now I have to mop my floor and scrub my tub tonight (maintenance guy put the ruined rug in there). Gross.
ETA: @Aquinna82 Glad to hear you are back home and that you and baby are doing well!
WTF to the FMLA policy. I had always thought that FMLA was unpaid and that you could take qualifying leave when you requested it. I was planning on 4 weeks of company maternity leave, 2 weeks paid vacation time, and then 4 weeks of unpaid FMLA. I just found out that FMLA runs concurrently with any paid leave and my company policy is to use all available paid time off before resorting to any unpaid time off.
Now I will have 0 time off accrued for the rest of the year and no FMLA. Besides the obvious, what if something happens in the fall and I'm completely out of all available tome off, I needed my last 2 weeks of vacation time to cover the lapse in daycare between when our start date is and when my husband's school year starts up again.
Anyone else having these same problems?
Yes... same boat. I have to use all my earned leave when I start my FMLA. I'm taking a total of 12 weeks which is the max for FMLA. BUT you have a year to use that FMLA. So it doesn't matter if youre out of earned time off you are still able to take unpaid leave as long as it falls within the year. Hope that makes sense.

Thank you! And yeah, both last time and this time I didn't realize when I was getting sick, because I've been mildly congested and had a vague sore throat since I've been pregnant. So it's just when it hits me full force that I'm like, apparently I'm sick now. My husband is also being extra nice about things. He's sick too, so whenever I get him anything or take the dogs out or something, he says, "You're sick!" And I say, "You're sick too!" And he says, "But you're sick AND pregnant!" Which is nice - if I have to be sick and pregnant, somebody better freaking notice and feel bad for me!
WTF to 3rd trimester in general. How did everything start in one day? Exhaustion, insomnia, swelling, sweating, etc. WTF. I am still waiting for my nesting phase to kick in. Any time now would be great.

In waiting for nesting to kick in too! There's lots I WANT to get done before the baby gets here, but when you add on the school stuff I need to get done before I go on leave and my general exhaustion/aches and pains (and the realization that the exhaustion and aches and pains don't go away if you take a day to rest) I just don't know how I'm gunna get stuff done without some superhuman pregnancy nesting instincts coming in.
Ughhh, WTF to this really inappropriate mother in the Dr office waiting room. Her daughter was playing in the kids area with another little girl who has down syndrome and the girl who has down syndrome had an accident. Well now this mother is saying how disgusting it is and keeps dropping the F bomb and swearing at her own child and being really loud about how irritated she is, with no concern for anyone else in the waiting room or the other mother who is probably really embarassed about her toddler's accident while juggling an infant. I feel bad for the little girls and the other mother.

WTF to my ears not being able to properly locate where sounds are coming from. It's 9:50PM over here and I'm already in bed (alone - DH should be back from a late meeting any time now). Suddenly, I hear these weird rumbling noises and I start freaking out, convinced there's someone walking around on our roof. After a minute or so, I realise it's just our cat playing - i.e. running into and out of at neck-break speed - with his dumb cat tunnel, DOWNSTAIRS. Ain't nobody on the roof.

Really? That's so horrible! I can never understand why people think this way or don't just keep their comments to themselves.
WTF to the state of NC!!!!!!! Starting on Thursday they are going to start pulling people over even if you are only going ONE mph over the posted speed limit. They are going to be actively going after everyone that believed at one point there was a 1 to 9mph buffer between the posted speed limit and getting pulled. But they did say even if you are going ONE mph over they will pull you and write you a ticket. I'm just like WTF b/c speedometers can be off anywhere from 1 to 5mph. In that case you still get a ticket which will probably get reduced to equipment failure and still have to pay a fine and court costs. Like WTF NC?!?!?!?!
My second WTF is to my doctor office. They did not do anything wrong, but I am just overwhelmed. They printed out my remaining appts for this pregnancy (and there are a few not on there, like I get ultrasounds every three weeks). Starting next week I have to go for NST scans every Tuesday and Friday. And in addition to that I'll see a doctor once a week every week. I have to go that often due to a few risk factors I have. Granted these risk factors have not shown their ugly faces, but still. Now i'm trying to figure out how to work this out with work. Granted I do work from home, but still.
Also, WTF to riding in pickup trucks. I like pickup trucks. They are so much easier to get in and out of than a car now a days. Unfortunately though, combine a bumpy pickup truck with a bumpy road and a baby that is content to use your bladder as a bouncy house and it spells out P-A-I-N.

Waste of resources much? My mom and brother actually live in NC so I had heard about this and I kinda feel bad for my brother bc he's getting his license and a car soon. Just another stupid thing to worry about. I completely understand going the speed limit, but being pulled over for 1 MPH over? I don't really see that going over very well.

Anyone else having these same problems?
Yep. I have some sick days saved up that get wiped first, then the rest of my leave is unpaid and I'll pay my benefits out of pocket to the school district. This time, I'm extending my unpaid leave to have more time with LO and DS (and am thankful that my position will be held). Last pregnancy, it was no fun to return to work with 0 sick days for the first half of the school year.
Total WTF to work policies. I also have to use up all my sick days during the first 2 weeks of my total 12 FMLA weeks. And still have to pay our insurance that normal comes out of my paycheck. I asked about telecommuting a few days if I go after my due date so I don't have to waddle around the office. That was shot down. This company acts like they support families, but don't do one single thing to do so.
Wtf to 3rd trimester middle of the night charley horses. They just started last week and this morning I got one in each calf within minutes of eachother. So when I finally got out of bed I could hardly walk.
Anyone else getting them? I thought it was lack of potassium so I started eating more bananas, but here we are again..
Yes! EVERY morning! I woke up this morning with one in both calves and yelled out in pain, waking DH up mid-sleep. Damn, if I struggle with these, I'm screwed for labor...

And THIS is the point in which I would no longer have been able to keep my mouth shut. Any kid can have an accident. To think she is raising the next generation.... *shakes head*
Another WTF to hemorrhoids. I kept reading that they happen to most pregnant women at some point but it just sounded too awful to accept so I decided I just wouldn't get them. I was wrong and now I'm sad and my butthole hurts.

Nooooo!! I have made that same decision! Now I'm scared.
Wtf to my landlord... We told him three week (?) ago about the broken dishwasher and he still hasn't got a repair man to take a look. I'm tired of doing dishes by hand and now I just don't care if they pile up.
WTF to my incapable body. I slept 3 hours last night and woke up with sudden nausea that was worse than my first trimester MS. I've been awake ever since and feeling like total crap because LO is now bruising my ribs. I cringe each time she kicks, which is really sad because I used to enjoy her movements so much. But now she's just so big and kicks so hard, I think we are both getting really uncomfortable.

Hang on to your rent check until it's fixed. Ir offer to hire your own guy if he'll let you take the fee out of your rent.
WTF to my body temperature lately. I've been pretty comfortable most of this pregnancy, but the last week or so I am constantly drenched in sweat. At night and all day long I just continuously sweat. The only time I get relief is in my car when I turn the AC on full blast or roll all of my windows down.
^^^THIS! MH swears the house is freezing (and his hands will be ice cold!) but I'll still be drenched in sweat! Doesn't make any sense at all!
@Spylon I'm sure you'll be one of the lucky ones that never gets them! So far it's not actually that bad, the part that worries me is that when I read about how to treat them while pregnant, everything pretty much just says "usually they go away after pregnancy." That's over TWO MONTHS for me. That is not an acceptable recovery timeline.
To all you guys in the US.. I just read a bit about mat leave in the US. And I cannot begin to say how sorry I am for all of you! I think it's horrible. It's basically discriminating against families, it's not exactly encouraging women to work (apparently your pay decreases a few per cent for each kid you have)... it's just hostile towards families. Two weeks. That's so funny. I mean, whether you've given birth vaginally or via csection... You might not be anywhere near recovered after that amount of time.
Ummm, I was just talking to my mom yesterday about all the ridiculousness regarding maternity leave (and I have a relatively awesome situation working in a school) and she said that in her district you can enter in a Sick Bank Pool. Basically, if you are someone like my mom who NEVER takes a single sick day, you can donate your PTO to another staff member. My mom always does that for teachers who are going out on maternity leave. One teacher delivered in October and my mom donated all her PTO for the year (some of it doesn't roll over I guess and she knew she could never use it all) and the teacher was able to be out on paid leave until almost February! For my mom, it is no big deal because she either uses it or loses it and I think in her entire career she has taken a total of 5 sick days/personal days. But for a new mother, having those extra weeks is CRUCIAL!
If the laws won't change to better protect new mothers and children, maybe policies like this could help us all limp along. I just know it sucks to think ALL your PTO has been used up before the really tough stuff even starts! This whole year I have had to make the Sophie's Choice of staying home with my son when he is sick or going into work and finding a babysitter to watch him to save the sick days at my work. It has been horrible to have to get text updates from my FIL or a babysitter while my son is not feeling well and calling for mommy just so I can save up the days so I don't have to come back in June and leave my newborn.

My mom works for the state of CA and they do this as well. She gets several emails daily of employees throughout the state requesting donation of hours due to whatever reason they have and since their leave has all been used up.
@laurenmdrn16& @ncm0328My Dad worked for the state of CT for a few years when he was diagnosed with cancer. They had the same policy there. He only had a few weeks of sick leave available, but people from all over donated weeks and weeks to him since in CT your time off continually accrues and never maxes out. It was absolutely amazing that he continued to get paid until the day he passed away thanks to the generosity of his coworkers.
My company also claims to have great progressive benefits, but since the average age of employees here is about 24 their family leave policy is a joke. I think what's going to happen is that I will just have to take unpaid leave later in the year if I need time off instead of taking it as my maternity leave.
@mumbolinoThanks for feeling our pain! family leave is quite the joke here in the states.

I think my company actually does this, but when you donate you can't specify for it to go to a specific person. DH has a ton of time off saved up and actually asked if I could use some to extend my leave a little bit if he 'donated' it to me and they said no. He asked if it were just bc we were related and if someone else could and they said no, all donated leave has to be reviewed on a case by case basis as to who might need it more (bc that isn't subjective to bias at all).
I know my work's telecommuting policy is really lax for some things, but that doesn't really help me if I have to stay home bc the baby is sick or something.
