@nerdymama15. My OB told me the same thing yours did. I had stopped anything with a decongestant after reading online that they were unsafe, but then I got really, really, sick. A stuffed nose turned into a sinus infection and then acute bronchitis that lasted for nearly 3 months. She allows me one decongestant per day (Mucinex) and I'm so grateful. While a stuffed nose may seem like a minor irritation to some, for someone with severe allergies, it can turn into something much worse.
There are different types of mucinex available so I can't comment on this because I don't know what's in the one you're taking. Even still, this is one of those situations where you and your doc decided it was worth the risk, probably for your sanity. And that's ok too. I've said it before, it's about weighing risk vs benefit
My doctor is not in today and I was requesting an antibiotic for an abscess I have on my neck. It has been draining since yesterday and it does not hurt. The nurse there just said it would be fine and that if I develop fevers, etc, then I'd go to the ER or the doctor on call (weekend). Is that really okay?

Ok firstly I'm a pharmacist, not a doctor. However draining is good! Abscesses don't always require antibiotics because it's basically a localized infection, kinda like when you get a bad ingrown hair...if you can pop it and drain the crud it's usually no issue. You have no signs of infection currently. So I would say yes, it's fine. If it becomes swollen, red, tender or hot or if you develop a fever then go to ER. Those are signs of infection.
I guess I didn't word my question well. I forgot to ask if Bacdrum (spelling) was safe to take during pregnancy. I took that medication when I had the abscess on my back last year.

Bactrim is not considered safe in pregnancy. It interferes with folic acid. It's more of an issue in first trimester but is generally avoided throughout pregnancy.
Hi there, I was wondering if it's ok for me to take unisom sleepgels every night for a week straight? I'm staying in a hotel for work and am not sleeping well, and have taken unisom 3 nights in a row already, and just want to make sure it's ok for me to continue taking it a bit longer...thanks so much for your help!

Yeah that's not an issue at all. After about a week they don't tend to work as well as your body adjusts to them but from a safety perspective it's no issue
