How are you feeling? For some reason, this week is dragging. Ready for the weekend!
Rants/Raves/Confessions? My rant is Easter candy. I'm about to stop going into Target and grocery stores because I just want to mainline Peeps and jelly beans and all the candy.
Food/Recipe ideas? Meh, nothing exciting. Thinking so much about what to eat/when to eat/the proportions of everything just takes the joy out of food for me, apparently. We grilled up some brats this week that were good, though.
GTKY: What is the best part of Spring where you live? I live in SC, so Spring is the approximately four week span of time in between cold and blazing hot. We try to be outside as much as possible and enjoy the weather before the real heat and humidity set in.
My numbers have been perfect since I started testing, and I'm so thankful. It's going well and I'm getting used to it.. I've lost 2.5lbs though, and have only gained 5lbs this whole pregnancy, so I need to ask the Dr about that at my next appointment. I was surprised, since I'm definitely eating more carbs now than I was. Who knows. The weather here has been so mild this past winter, so anticipating a beautiful spring. We have a ton of parks and bike trails near us, love to take advantage of those with the kids.
How are you feeling? Pretty run down the past few days. I've just had a lot going on, and I'm definitely feeling the 3rd trimester slump!
Rants/Raves? Numbers have been good, though I really feel it if I choose to indulge in crap without the protein balance.
Food/recipe ideas? Nothing pivotal. I could use some fresh ideas actually. I love cooking, but I've been uninspired lately.
Best thing about Spring? Well, I live in Florida now, so we had a few weeks of cooler weather and now it's back to the 80's. I do enjoy spring colors and fashion everywhere though.
*start rant* Its super rough this week. my numbers are all over the place. I started on Glyburide at night for my fasting numbers, which has lowered them to about 88 every morning, but the last few days have been high 90's no matter what I do. Toast with breakfast will be ok one day, and not OK the next. Same with sandwiches or pasta. I've got anxiety over everything I put in my mouth I'm exhausted trying to keep up with this and the nightly snack i HAVE to have with my glyburide just makes me lose sleep due to heartburn, which just makes my numbers worse. I see the diabetes specialist again on Monday again, but I' am so frustrated. I have to keep a perfect balance...not enough carbs? High post prandial numbers. Too much carb? High post prandial numbers. I cannot pinpoint at all what it is that causes the normal numbers, because that same meal will cause high numbers tomorrow. I'm over it. Surely there is some sort of food pod I can be given so I just eat that at regularly scheduled intervals and be done with it. Between a full time job, 3 course college class load, having a teenager at home and planning for a move in 3 weeks, adding the daily tracking and planning each bite that goes into my face and testing my glucose 4 times a day is sending me over the edge. I ate healthy before this diagnosis and I still eat really healthy. I just. cant. even. *end rant*
@dmunoz81 That is frustrating. With my first pregnancy I'd have high numbers after breakfast if I had the recommended carbs, no matter what else I ate. I ended up just not having carbs for that meal most of the time. This time I'm getting by by eating oatmeal with vanilla protein powder mixed in. It's been amazing and while it doesn't offer a lot of variety, I can at least have a different flavor each day.
I'd say what's causing your issue (besides that blessed placenta!) is stress. Which is the worst. But really, you can't suddenly not work, have school, a teenager, etc. Stress plus lack of sleep will seriously jack up your numbers.
My only other thought is what you drink with it could be an issue. Coffee creamer (or sugar), milk, etc all add to the carbs. I need coffee to live! So I either use sugar free creamer or don't put any sweetener in if it's regular creamer. I've been drinking diet A&W for my soda fix because it tastes the least "diet".
I hope your meeting Monday helps a bit. Just know you ARE trying, and there really is only so much you can control. Don't give up, it'll be worth it!
@mello13 thank you for the encouragement. I read the book " Real Food for Gestational Diabetes" on Friday and decided to give their lower carb meal plan a try. So far all of my numbers have been great on that. 86-87 fasting and 108 avg post prandial. I think the plan the specialist put me on was just too high in carbs for me. Hopefully she won't scold me too much when I see her today for not eating enough carbs :-)

I could have written this! My numbers were great on 2.5mg of Glyburide at night for about a week, then bam, they're nuts. With no consistency. One day a meal is fine, another it's not!
And earlier on, I was put on the Glyburide only because of my morning fasting numbers, my meals were fine and the specialist said they were even too low! She gave me a little lecture on how the baby/placenta can only metabolize glucose, so I should eat MORE carbs. But in the past week I've had multiple after-eating numbers just over 140, which freaks me out. The doc suggested I up my Glyburide to 3.75mg at night, and see what that does.
The good news is that I had a NST (where they monitor the baby for 15-20 min) yesterday, and it was great.
How I am feeling: I am soo exhausted this week. I can't seem to get any sleep.
Rants/raves: I was diagnosed pretty early on with GD at about 4.5 months. I haven't had normal good food in sooo long and the cravings are becoming unbearable. My numbers have been great though and I have lost 22 lbs in total (I was overweight to begin with, my OB is not concerned). But still my baby is measuring very large!!!
Food/recipe ideas: Today I felt like eating something exotic, so I looked online for easy Indian recipes. I made a great Chicken Tikka Masala eventhough I had to substitute some ingredients and didn't eat it with rice. It actually felt like normal food lol!

Rants/Raves/Confessions? Changed to a midwife from my OB and the 1st visit went super well.
Food/Recipe ideas? I've been eating the same stuff for the most part. Lost 2 pounds over the last few days, so my pregnancy weight gain is at 10 lbs.
GTKY: What is the best part of Spring where you live? no more snow and old weather!! yay!
