ETA: I know half of those are FFFC examples but honestly I can't tell the difference between those threads most weeks.

I never wear green on St. Patrick's Day simply because I love watching the expressions on my student's face shift from "holy shit, she's not wearing green, I CAN PINCH HER" to "if I pinch her, she will rain hell down upon me." It's hilarious. For me.

I agree with @taymiller! Sometimes I get nervous that the search function won't return what I'm looking for and I'll end up duplicating something that's been beaten to death.

UO: People who don't drink any alcohol (outside of pregnancy) make me nervous. There are obviously some exceptions: medical, religious, etc. but people who strictly prohibit themselves from drinking alcoholic beverages have always had a tendency to make me feel very judged.

Should add family members that suffer from alcoholism to your list. I don't really drink and my husband's friends made a huge deal of it every time we went to a party and I wasn't drinking. When I finally told them that my dad is a functioning alcoholic they shut their mouths.

@oneliloaktree13 I agree with this 100000000 times over. Old people think they can say and do whatever they want because they're old. I hate it. Except DH grandma. I love her, and I want to stick her in my pocket and keep her warm and safe forever. She is French Canadian and just the cutest and sweetest thing ever.

My UO... I hate that st pattys day is just a reason for everyone to get wasted, like cinco de mayo and such... While I have contributed to the shenanigans a time or two, I prefer to sit back, and enjoy watching people make assholes out of themselves instead. Working in food for such a long time had made me hate it more.

I find St. Patrick's Day totally pointless...I don't think I've ever celebrated it in my entire life... if you're Irish and want to celebrate your heritage that's one thing and by all means go for it, but a bunch of amateurs getting shit faced plastered that end up yelling at their shoes while Dropkick Murphy's plays in the background doesn't seem to be the best way to honor the Irish culture.

@agradi I live right next to the largest Irish community in St. Louis, and it's NUTS for St. Patrick's Day every year. I high-tailed it to work this morning so I didn't get stuck in traffic with any crazies. I'll be keeping an extra-watchful eye on the drive home this evening since I've had many a drunken chick in a green tutu dart out in front of my car.

You are absolutely right. (Though I was kind of lumping that under medical since addition is truly a disease).

The best part of the holiday is the badass punk rock. In CO, we do kegs and eggs which I've never been to but have always wanted to go, because they always have some great bands. Tickets always sell out early as fuck, it's impossible to get through downtown Denver on days like today so, I will listen to some dropkicks while we go to finish registering at BRU and that will be that. This little man likes older punk rock to anything else I listen to anyway so he will be up alllll day.

You are absolutely right. (Though I was kind of lumping that under medical since addition is truly a disease).

It's not the easiest, I know I have to watch how much I drink because I can put a lot back and not realize it and it's a little scary. However, as a part time non drinker, we're only judging the drunk people that are completely idiotic and say really stupid things

As a non drinker I find this weird. We don't judge you, don't judge us.

@KASG No, it's not daycare but I can't imagine where they would be/what they would be doing or if anyone would care about them if it weren't for school and teachers who work hard hours to help them. At least they could have SOME fighting chance to improve their situations. This problem lies within the structure of our society and how the poor are getting even more poor. The children should not be made to suffer for that..

I would rather it be under valued by parents than have uneducated children who turn into adults functioning in this country.

I'm already done with this pregnancy. It's gonna be a long 15 weeks! I feel so uncomfortable already. I can't even cut my toe nails anymore.. I'm not very good at asking for help either. I regret not staying in shape while pregnant. Esp with the subtle "fatty" comments my family spits out from time to time.

@y0urm0m It's undervalued by everyone -- students, admin, legislators... And about that $#!+ show... lol I thought of that right after I posted it. But honestly, the whole system just needs a MAJOR revamp. Cuz I can guarantee you it's a $#!+ show now and it's NOT working...

They cause chaos and do nothing for the learning environment of the other students. Those students just want to work - and usually with their family (or drugs unfortunately). We are forcing them to go to a place where they do not want to be.

Trust me - I am all for education, and I do not want to live in a society that is uneducated, but I believe for some kids there needs to be a different option. They aren't learning in the situation they are in anyway, and usually drop out when they can sign off of it themselves.

I don't understand why people who aren't Catholics celebrate it. The bulk of St. Patrick's work was essentially cultural genocide. His work was converting pagans, and he was great at it. Which is all well and good if you believe that Catholicism > Other Religions, but I don't think getting shithoused on green beer in honor of a medieval missionary is an appropriate celebration of his work.

But maybe my real UO is that I don't support the work of missionaries, either in the 5th century or the 21st. Especially when then mission work boils down to trading commodities/goods for a profession of faith/denouncement of pagan/savage beliefs.

Call me naive but isn't this a problem that was created by parents, lack of resources and education in the first place?

i think most people forget that these are still KIDS who need direction and support.

making primary and secondary schooling optional is not a solution.
