What do you use to clean your toilets and sinks? My friend just told me you have to be careful and can't use certain products like bleach because it kills the good bacteria in your tank. I've never heard of this!
Yeah, you have to be careful with a lot of things. Like the powder washhing machine soap stuff and whatever. Bleach is one of those, I believe. Cleaning wise I only use two things: Simple Green and Windex. So I use Simple Green to clean toilets and sinks and stuff. We have a dog and while she doesn't drink out of the toilet bowl I wouldn't put it against her to start, so I've never used bleach there. Or bleach for anything really because I hate the smell.
I grew up with one, and you would have to pour gallons , as well as pee actual bleach to cause a problem.... there is plenty of bacterial to go around. On that note, there is a "conditioner" of sorts you can use once a year to keep things growing, and decomposing. .
I've never heard that... I still used all the regular clenaing products and never had a problem

I have no clue about what you should or shouldn't use, but we use the method products along with the clorox toilet wand and haven't had a problem with our septic yet. I do know that you should flush certain baby wipes.
I use KABOOM Bowl Blaster - Foaming Toilet Cleaner since it's safe for septic tanks. It's a powder so be careful no to inhale when measuring and pouring. We treat our septic tank once a month with Rid-X powder so that helps maintain the bacteria and enzyme balance in the tank. There are tons of septic products to choose from but this is the one carried by major home improvement stores like Lowe's and Home Depot. (rid-x.com)
A note about KABOOM for anyone who smokes...do not get the powder on your index or middle finger. I spilled a little on my index finger while measuring the powder and when I rinsed the powder off in the sink my finger and nail had turned orange. It took about a month for it to wear off. I think it reacted to the nicotine or other chemicals from the cigarettes that had absorbed into my skin. One more reason that helped me quit smoking.
