TTC After a Loss

post miscarriage bloodwork question

I'm two months post d&c and was going back to my RE Friday but the nurse called and said I need to have bloodwork done before I see the doctor. I asked if this was regular bloodwork (just checking levels etc) and she said no, more in depth post-miscarriage bloodwork that takes a couple weeks to get results. We already had karyotype bloodwork done and everything came back great. Has anyone else had this kind of testing done and what are they looking for? Sigh...this feels like the longest process ever.

Re: post miscarriage bloodwork question

  • Aera11 After my second loss and before I was cleared to try again my OB/GYN did a number of tests. I had about 10 vials of blood taken for various tests involving thyroid, genetics, and blood clotting disorders. Since I tested positive for one of the blood clotting disorders I had to retest in 6 weeks before an official diagnosis could be made. I also did a saline infused ultrasound to make sure that everything looked good as far as having open tubes, etc. I know that being in limbo is a frustrating process and I wish you the best of luck with all of your testing.

  • Thank you @mwegman7878 I'm just annoyed because it pushed everything back even further and I didn't like how vague the nurse was. I know I'll be okay again tomorrow but I was curious to know what else they could possibly be looking for now.  I see an RE and have had two HSGs so I do know my tubes are open. Best of luck to you on this journey :)
  • Aera11 I completely understand. I lost 2 cycles due to testing and it was such a frustrating time being I didn't feel like I really had any answers. Now that I finally do, they're able to give me some treatment options to combat the issues found. As hard as it is, just know that moving forward, even if you get back results you don't want, this is going to give you all of the opportunity to take care of your body so that you can have a happy and healthy child in the future. I hope that helps keep you in a positive mindset. It's been by mantra ever since my most recent loss.

  • The testing I had post loss involved thyroid, cbcs, lupus, etc. It was determined that my thyroid level was too high. (Though this wasn't the cause of my miscarriage)
  • I had a clotting panel after my second loss. So that is checking for any clotting disorders. I have MTHFR mutation (homozygous 677t) so that's why my dr suggested that.

  • Thank you for your input everyone!  As expected, the rational me is feeling better today.  This whole process is such an emotional roller coaster and I hate not knowing what lies ahead.  Best of luck to you all and thank you again for your support :)
