Transitioning from a RNP

Im sorry if this topic has been discussed, but I looked and didn't see anything.

Baby girl is 6 weeks old and is a great sleeper - usually sleeps from 10:30-7, gets up to nurse and sleeps till 11am. Occasionally she'll get up around 4, but not too often. She's well past her birth weight, so I'm fine with letting her sleep through the night. All of this great sleeping happens in her RnP. We are trying to transition her to her crib and it's not going well.

Some it's our fault in that some days we just want to sleep, so we don't even try the crib. Im putting her in there for naps, but the kid hardly naps. She literally naps for like 20 mins at a time. If I'm putting away her laundry or cleaning her room, I'll put her in her crib. She doesn't really seem to mind it, sometimes she lays there and just talks to herself, so I let her, but never falls back to sleep.

At night, she either wakes up as soon as we put her down or about 5 minutes later. We swaddle, white noise, she's got a wedge...anyone else have any suggestions?!

My honest suggestion? Wait a while! Give it a few more weeks. It's not worth losing sleep over - literally;). You're doing all the right things so if she's not ready, what I would do is try again in a few weeks.

We brought the bassinet downstairs during the day and put her in it when she sleeps on us during the day. At first she hated it and she would a couple of minutes before we picked her up, but now she sleeps in it for upto 3 hours during the day and same at night. Took a while, but worth it for the eventual rewards!
  • We have been in the same boat so I'm planning on just letting LO stay in the Rock and play for a few more weeks since I have time before going back to work in a few weeks. He's six weeks right now too. We did fight this same battle with DS1 transitioning to his crib--but he had awful reflux and DS2 does not so I am hoping for an easier transition. In another 2-3 weeks I will probably start by putting the boppy in his crib and propping him up during nap time when I can monitor him, then after a few days of doing that I will remove the boppy. The RNP is helping us get sleep right now and at the moment I value that. Once DS1 could roll over he would sleep on his belly and for him that was just a little over 3.5 months. He slept so much better that way, but I know I can't have him sleep that way till he rolls over. So we are doing lots of tummy time during the day to strengthen those muscles. ;)
