Randoms 3/14-3/20

Our last randoms thread was a few weeks ago!

I won't lie. I'm mostly posting this so I can whine--I have the flu! I thought it was allergies at first, but the chills and fever and *extra* vomiting have kicked in overnight. Just put in for a sub...but now I have to write sub plans for the first day of the quarter. Sigh.

  • I agree with you @Katienu! Besides trying to get the kids to go to sleep at their normal bedtime which is like an hour earlier than what they are use to. I didn't sleep well at all. I couldn't fall asleep until like 1:00am and was up like 3 times to pee. I have to wake up at 5:00am to get dd up so she can get ready and on the bus at 6:30am. Needless to say, this is going to be a looooonnnngggg Monday.
  • I'm really hoping I hear back from a job I interviewed for today... If I don't get it I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Im pretty much out of options. I'm trying to stay positive but it's so frustrating!

  • Oh no @skelly70 I hope you feel better soon! I selfishly hid the last half sleeve of my thin mints when I found out my 13yo BIL was sneaking them. Don't touch my indulgence kid, there will be consequences.
  • @skelly70 oh no! I hope you feel better soon!

@tmk0325 good luck! Looking for a job is the worst, when I was out of work I couldn't even enjoy the free time because I was so stressed.

I feel like daylight savings time gets harder to deal with every year. It takes way to long to get my (and DS's) body on board!

  • @tmk0325 Good luck!  I'm also interviewing (within my company) but don't think my boss will let me leave my current role until I've been here a year and I'm afraid that will put me out of this new position (which is perfect for my background).  This should probably be in first world problems but it's hard to imagine coming back to a job that is miserable with an infant to snuggle!

  • Random, but I go to the dentist in the next state over and just make a long weekend trip to visit my dad at the same time. This state has my favorite ice cream place (Braums) which has my favorite flavor (Rocky Road). I will be having a douple dip in a waffle cone for lunch right after my cleaning and I have no shame.
  • My DD's dad and I have joint custody and he came to pick her up last night for his week (we alternate Sunday through Sunday) and informed me right then that he is scheduled to close every night this week and wants to know if I can pick her up from school tonight and keep her for the rest of the week.

He initially asked if we could just switch weeks and I was like, "HECK NO! I have plans with her next weekend, plus my step-son will be with us and I don't want to screw up his routine by not having my DD there." So now I get her three weeks in a row since I had her last week and get to keep her next week too. I'm super excited to have her more than normal, but I'm also really annoyed that he dropped it on me at the last minute, IN FRONT of our daughter. Luckily, I don't have any plans this week that would make it difficult to have her.

I work as a recruiter and while my job is supposed to be placing people in full-time jobs, my boss has been bringing in a lot of temp jobs lately. Temp positions are often just as hard to fill as full time ones, and I make very little money from them, so they are not my favorite. They also take time away from my full time placements which are how I actually earn my living. Anyway, I placed young woman in a 2-3 month temp job at a company. Today was her first day. She called me this morning on her way to the office, to let me know that she somehow was offered her dream job over the weekend and now has to quit the temp job. On her first day!! She had told me that she was not even looking for full time work right now. So now our client is going to be pissed, my company is going to look bad, and I am going to have to do all the work all over again to find a suitable replacement for the woman who is quitting. All I can say is I cannot wait till August when either my maternity leave starts or (more likely) I quit for good. I hate dealing with this stuff.

Edited because I could not live with two consecutive sentences starting with "anyway."
  • I am so nervous about this anatomy scan. On my way to appt now but besides the excitement of finding out gender, I'm more concerned about health concerns. I'm freaking out right now and driving DH crazy in the car! "Babe what if baby is missing a leg? Or a finger? Ahhhhhhh!!!"

I just pray and wish this appt goes well. I probably sound like that paranoid FTM lol just needed to let it out. I actually did scream, "AHHHHHH" in the car just
now. Keep your fingers crossed for me, mamas!

I've been such a worrier with this pregnancy! I think I'll feel better after the anatomy scan if all is well and after 24 weeks (viability!) I worry that something is wrong with the baby or I worry that I'm going to go into preterm labor or whatever other crazy thought comes into my head. I think it'll be better once I feel regular kicks and once I have the anatomy scan but sheesh.. Tell me I'm not the only worrier?!
  • @Lynnlove28 - when DH's cousin had their third girl his grandfather made some really nasty comments. In his defense, he was starting to show signs of altzheimers but the cousin and his wife are still upset when they think back on that. For him, he was in his mid-90s and was upset that the one grandchild who carried on the family name wasn't having a son to carry it on to another generation. But seriously, who says things like that?!?!  I'm sorry your mil reacted like that.
  • @squishy0511 you are definitely not the only worrier! I am still waiting to start feeling the baby so I can have peace of mind each day.
  • My random for the day...I posted on the baby name board and dh is super disappointed as nobody at all voted for his favorite name. Poor guy!
  • @tmk0325 I'm glad someone here can relate! I know it's not a career field that a ton of people have tried. I really enjoy placing people in permanent jobs -- it's rewarding to help someone get a job, and to have a happy client at the end, and then of course I like the placement fees I get when I succeed! But lately it's almost all temps, and you're right, you hear so many excuses! It's often dealing with people who don't have stellar employment histories and you start to see why. And of course the clients, they definitely make me want to cry sometimes. My pet peeve is the ones who act like they're choosing the next Supreme Court Justice when they're really needing a temporary secretary or something. Like they're super picky and then want a three-interview selection process with computer testing and a full background check. And I'm just over here counting down the months till August!  :)
  • Congrats on the new job @tmk0325 !!

  • Yay @tmk0325 ! That's so exciting!

  • @tmk0325 congrats on the job! I bet that's a load off your mind!
  • @AliKay20 - FX everything went well!! I'm sure I'll be a mess of nerves on the day of (as I am every appointment, but this is one of the bigger ones so I'm sure I'll be worse) - but I spend so much time worrying about all the things I can't control, I'm just going to enjoy the thought that hopefully baby will be 100% healthy and I'll just get to find out whether my mom will be going way too overboard on pink or blue crap

  • @Lynnlove28 Sorry about her reaction. It's not cool. When I was pregnant with DD, we told my MIL the sex and she said well it's not for sure yet, right? I still feel like she's disappointed at times that DD is not a boy and she can't make her into DH2.0. At the end of the day, a healthy baby is all that matters.

Omg u are so not alone!!!!!  I'm probably driving my husband insane but after a mc last time I'm a nervous wreck, every twinge, every time I think I haven't felt her move in a little bit ,a day I actually didn't puke ,etc I'm convinced something is wrong with her or has happened to her or is gonna happen to her.i had a doppler in my amazon cart and was like nope cuz what if I can't find heartbeat ...next ultrasound and maternal fetal specialist visit is the 21st and OB visit the next day and I can't wait....

  • So excited for everyone's anatomy scans!! I was surprisingly emotional seeing everything so clearly.  Can't wait for everyone to find out the sex (if you aren't team green) it made it feel more real for me.

@Hannah0726 definitely go veg before vegan! We have bounced between vegetarian, pescatarian (fish only), vegan and full on carnivore and it can be difficult to go "cold turkey" haha.  Also, I found myself becoming a carb-itarian, eating sooo much bread instead of actual veggies! But no one should be taking away burgers and cheese fries from a pregnant lady!!
  • I think it's time for a full body pillow. Since baby is getting bigger, I'm starting to get uncomfortable sleeping on my side. I got almost no sleep last night and had to grab a pillow to prop my belly on.

  • Ended up going to the ER yesterday, got out late last night. Tested positive for influenza A. So much for the wonders of the flu shot! Now I have the joy of writing sub plans for three more days because I'll still be contagious/they want me to do follow up monitoring.

    @tmk0325 congrats on the job!

  • @skelly70 UGH. Hope you feel better soon!

Ultrasound today! So excited to see our little one in detail. Hope everything looks good!

  • WTF pretty little liars!! Get your shit straightened out! How are you suddenly saying Charlotte is the same age as Allison when in the flashbacks Charles was like 4 and Allison was an infant.

  • @MSUgrad12 I stopped watching this season after the first 3 episodes. I need to catch up and see if it's gotten any better but I just haven't yet.

It gets more intense, but the things that happen are way more unlikely. They are doing the second half of the sixth season as a fiver year forward and now they are being completely inconsistent and the things happening are eye roll worthy.

  • @MSUgrad12 that's why I stopped watching! They could've went so many ways with this season! After the disappointing A reveal I was hoping they would do something to tie all the seasons together but no, they had to make everything even more complicated.
  • I had no idea PLL had started back! This is a show I have a love/hate relationship with. I guess this season won't be any different.
  • FYI admin - if I hit report on something in here, it was totally an accident - fat fingers on mobile app - please ignore!
