  • I seriously don't understand how I'm supposed to work another month. Everything hurts. I can barely walk because of the off and on back contractions.

  • After endless debate, review-reading, youtube-video-watching, we FINALLY ordered our travel system.  We just threw our chips into the pot and ordered the UK system we fell in love with, through Amazon.  Now I can't wait for it to get here and am SO GLAD to have this off our shoulders!  How was everyone's weekend??

@redselig  ew! I don't like those 'crib' shoes at all! They are kinda creepy!
  • I've finally had enough. I set my work IM photo to a picture of my face so people can stop assuming I'm a man and then act incredibly confused when they go to meet me in person for an audit.

Thank you!! Always happy to be the excuse for cake!! Ours is lemon cake with champagne frosting... used one of those vacuum food saver bags for it, so fingers crossed it's still decent!

I haven't yet but it's coming. My mom also bugs me at least once a month about getting her baptized, but since neither of us is religious I tell her that it would be asinine to force her into something I don't even believe. I'll probably just donate any I get.

DH's grandparents gave us a "bible for little boys" as a baby shower gift when I was pregnant with DS. I kept it to be nice, but I haven't put it out with the rest of DS's books. If it didn't have writing in it, I would have donated it to Goodwill or something.

Yes that is the issue, they have writing in them. And then I don't know if it's somehow wrong to give them away. I mean, if he actually wants to read them, who am I to stop him? I don't believe in that stuff but I feel like it should be the kid's choice if he does or not either way. On the other hand, no one bought him books of other religions than Christianity so that's pretty biased....

Donate. I was admittedly pretty rude about the idea of it early enough on that no one has attempted it yet. I'm sure it's coming though... My fiancé is more into church for the community aspect of it, but I'm pretty opposed to the idea of anything religious at all. He would be cool with a baby bible story book, but I would probably burn it. (Kidding. Sort of)

Mike has a Quaran from his time in Iraq, so when his mom suggested we started reading the Bible to baby in utero he told her ok, but for every page of the bible she gets a page of the Quaran. That shut her up ;)
Growing up, we had a copy of the bible, tora, and the quaran in our home. My parents never read any of it to us, but they were all together in the living room for everyone to see.

So far it hasn't happened but I'm fully prepared to get a baby bible and some comments about baptism.  My MIL is the most religious but also a very considerate, non-pushy person.  My mom is a 'convenient' catholic, but I could see her saying something like well you have to baptize baby because it's tradition. I'm not sure how either will be when baby is actually here but I'm an agnostic and would probably keep the book somewhere as an open option but never read it myself to the baby. I don't go to church at all and don't believe that you need an intermediary business to have a spiritual connection if you choose, so that is definitely out for me unless for some reason the child chooses this later on.

If you are adamantly against it, then you could definitely donate it. :)

I got "God is Good all the Time" and will regift to my atheist friend (also pregnant) for her baby shower as a gag gift, so it's perfect! It didn't offend me, but he isn't being spoon-fed anything anything religious before he can even speak.

We have yet to receive any religious books, but when we inevitably do, I'll keep them around for her (we'll probably only receive books related to Christianity, though). Depending on the contents, I'd probably even read some of them with her. So much of our art and literature and culture and history and even politics draws on Christian stories and imagery; I feel like she should have a baseline knowledge of the mythology (Christmas story, death and resurrection, parable of the Prodigal Son, creation story, Noah's ark, Moses in Egypt...). If she's learning about the Protestant Reformation, or  reading The Grapes of Wrath, or trying to figure out what someone is alluding to when they call someone a "Good Samaritan" or a "Judas", those are things she'll need to know. I probably would not, however, treat the religious elements differently than a fairy tale with magic in it (other than to note that some people believe them to be true, which isn't the case for, say, Cinderella).

I'd actually love to do the same for other religions' core stories as well, though I'm not nearly as familiar (aside from where Jewish/Christian traditions crossover, and I'm sure there are probably differences). Open to suggestions, if anybody has some!
That is a good point! In my high school English class we did a Bible allusion project so we would all understand references in literature better and it was really cool that so many more things made sense to me after that.

This is brilliant! And you make a good point about literary references...it would just be a fine line for me, because both sides will do their best to shove a year's worth of religion down her throat the one time each year we see them.

My bra was hurting me so much that I ended up taking it off and shoving it into my bag. Luckily my jacket is thick enough that no one will be able to tell that I'm letting Honesty and Deceit hang loose.
I'm using my breast pads to contain the nips when I don't feel like wearing a bra, which is basically any time I'm not working out. Restrictive anything blows.
  • @AmadorRose I don't think my 32Hs would allow me to do that very gracefully.

I usually limit my fluids in the evenings and don't have to get up more than once - usually not at all. I think by the time I go to bed, I'm so exhausted that I don't wake up for anything but to roll over. When I roll out of bed at 5, though, I nearly pee myself every day haha

I have maybe gotten up to pee at night once ever this pregnancy. I've been awake for over an hour laying in bed and still don't have to. Small blessings, haha
  • I normally have to get up three times during the night. The worst was Friday night when I got up 15 times. Mostly I just felt like I really had to pee, but not much happened. Thanks kid for sitting on my bladder all night

I'm on the same boat... 1.5-2 hours every night... last night I got 3 hours in one stretch and I feel like a new woman today!
  • I just watched the trailer for Seth Rogan's animated movie about food, Sausage Party. I was dying. It's so weird and rude... Which is a combo that I love, so I'm 100% going to go see it when it comes out.
