what are your thoughts on the name Dylan Isla for a girl. I have always loved the name Isla and my husband and I love the name Dylan for a girl... both are water names, and we love the water. what do you think?
@staceyann4 I love Dylan! That was on our short list for a girl. I don't love the flow of Dylan Isla though, but really how often will you say her whole name.

Honestly, there are literally thousands of amazing and beautiful girl names to pick from... Why choose Dylan?
To the Lillian name choice, just know how popular Lilly is right now, and she could be one of many. I know there was 5 girls that got pregnant at my job 3 years ago, 3 out of the 5 went with Lilly or Lillian. That shouldn't stop you if you love the name. Just my personal op.

@theshannondee I somewhat agree...hubby says the same. We've talked about Elizabeth as a middle name or something with a few more syllables... something ultra feminine though. I just really love Isla in generally and am having a hard time 'giving that up' haha... we have a dog named Lila (which I love that name also and wish I would have saved it ), and so Isla is a bit too close to that for a 1st name. Middle name suggestions welcomed

Don't give up Isla...it's a beautiful first name. I wouldn't worry about your pooch. Maybe Layla or Lilly as possibilities too. Isla Elizabeth is perfection
@oneliloaktree13 Def taking this into account, thanks! I loved this name a few years ago when it wasn't so common but now it's way more popular. ahhh decisions, decisions!
@staceyann4I'm with @PinkLady2015 on Dylan. It's definitely a male name and with a quick google search, I couldn't find any sources saying it was ever female. Also, I've noticed she's one of the more helpful ladies on the name board. Honest and thoughtful in her opinion, and she was not a jerk at all in pointing out the origin of the name. Boys names for girls are not very popular around here. If you like a name, that's great, but if you're asking for opinions, you're going to get them.

I know of a little girl named Dylan, I think its adorable.
My sons name is Kaden Alexander My daughters name is Mara Jade
We are having a boy, my husband likes Cander William but Im not crazy about it yet and still looking for suggestions that "flow" with our other kids names. I suggested Lucas and he said "maybe"....I like Xander, but he said "no". Any suggestions from you ladies? This has been so hard for us this time!
I understand this is a place for opinions. I guess I knew that Dylan was controversial, but for some reason felt compelled to ask. I got exactly the response I expected, and am totally fine with that. I love the name & so I should not have asked for opinions. cheers to diversity, thankful we all like different things, it's beautiful,

Cander and Kaden seem really close and tongue twister inducing. Also I hear Cantor.

Fair enough... Names are tricky business and everyone has an opinion. DH and I have a name that we love and zero people will know what it is until it's permanently inked on her birth certificate. If you're telling people beforehand better to develop a thick skin--- no matter how traditional or off the wall- everyone will give an opinion (and some will not be favorable)

I have no suggestions... Just wanted to say that Mara is adorable
No suggestions on the name; but I think Kaden and Cander sound a little similar; I'm not sold on that name either. But as PP said; I'm in love with the name Mara! How cute!

I don't really care for it either way, but I know two little girls with this name, and their parents are always having to remind people that their Dylan "is a girl". Or "no, we have two girls....." or "no we don't have two boys, we have a boy and a girl. Kaden is five, and Dylan is three." As a parent, that would drive me insane. I would rather have someone look at my kids name, and know the sex. I have a nephew named Shannon, and I am constantly having to remind people that Shannon is my nephew, and not a niece. Even though Shannon is a gender neutral name, it is so popular with women (compared to men), that people instantly think that I am talking about a girl. If I were to see Dylan on any type of paperwork or anything, I would assume that it was a boy. If that doesn't bother you, and you have no issues correcting people on a regular basis, then use it. But many times there are people that say it wont bother them (whether they are using a masculine name on a female, or spelling names uniquely), and then they are right back on here complaining (after their kid is born), that nobody ever spells their child's name right....or that people always assume their daughter is a boy.
What is everyone's thoughts on the name Rowan. Do you recognize it as a male or female name?
@Racso12 Rowan is getting popular, it was going to be my choice if I was having a girl. It is imo pretty unisex at this point. Rowan Atkinson aka Mr. Bean in a famous Rowan, Brooke Shields has a girl named Rowan Francis. I got my hair done on Friday and a little girl came in and her name is Rowan. I'm seeing more girls have it, if that helps.

@racso12 I think boy but it's going to be one of those "is it a boy or girl" names pretty soon. That would be a deterrent for me but may not be for you.
I liked it for a girls name but when I looked it up many websites said it originally was a boys name and has since been picked up as girl, or unisex. I think it's such a cute name but the popularity thing is a turnoff. I'm not around a lot of younger kids so I'm not hip to what is popular recently. back to the drawing board! Thanks for your input everyone!
We are back to the drawing board on a middle name. Thank goodness. I was not a fan of hubby's pick. But I'm afraid he's going to want something like "Wait for it" and I'm really wanting something normal.
How do we feel about Tessa? I'm still not digging Amelia even though my husband is in love with the name.
@TattoosandLace I LOVE LOVE LOVE Tessa. Amelia is pretty but I definitely vote for Tessa. DH vetoed, just like everything else. I don't know any Tessa's but I know a few Tess's and they are just the most lovely women/girls so I also have great associations with the name.
Any MN suggestions? I'm still playing it close to my chest since he shot down Teagan already this week. DD is Blakely Dawn. Dawn is more his style than mine.
Hmm... Any other names you or your DH have discussed? I know Amelia and I think Anne was the potential middle name, right? I don't really like either of those with Tessa (because of the double A). I remember there being an alternate middle name you were considering but I forget what it was, does it go with Tessa? Any family names you might want to use, or do you guys prefer to use names that are unique to the child and not already in the family?
Some random ones that popped into my head: Tessa Jane Tessa Corinne Tessa Violet Tessa Paige Tessa Lynn Tessa Marie Tessa Kate Tessa Danielle
Sorry I've been MIA. Off grid at the out of state hunt club all weekend. He is so dead set on Amelia Ann(e) that he won't give an opinion on other names. I wouldn't completely hate Tessa Ann(e) as a compromise. (We debate the spelling between the two of us.) He prefers names that are unique to the child. I wouldn't mind giving a nod to certain family members (specifically my deceased dad, but the boy ship has sailed). He does like the name Paige from conversations in naming DD. I might throw that out out as a middle name potential with Tessa. Thanks!
@Bringmemylongswordho and @PinkLady2015 I appreciate the suggestions. Im looking on the name forum now! I didnt even know there was a name forum so this will be very helpful.

The meaning for Rowan is pretty unisex, I think that's how you can get away with it being used for both. I liked Harper a lot but throw a rock and you hit 5 moms that have named their daughter's Harper.
