NESTING

Re: NESTING

  • I was planning on doing it all myself, but it's totally not happening. I've been doing some organizing of baby things and trying to find a home for all of them so that this baby has a place to sleep when he or she gets here and so that we can walk through the nursery without tripping over God knows what baby item. With my pre-eclampsia scare I told myself that justifies hiring someone to come do a deep clean before baby and she quoted me $25/hour, steal! Now I just need to figure out when to have her come.

  • I was nesty again this weekend and cleaning things I've never given a second look at (hello tops of kitchen cabinets). Does anyone else feel like they have been living in absolute FILTH after cleaning things you normally wouldn't clean? I mean, you should see the dust behind the radiators in my living room. I feel like a slob!!!

Also general cleaning questions - my tub is constantly disgusting. I could scrub it every three days. Honestly it looks like a family of 18 construction workers are showering in there. Any tricks to clean it and KEEP it clean? Based on the weird location of the shower head (middle of the shower- I think it's a Brooklyn thing) I don't think I can use that thing that hangs on the head and sprays the cleaner after you shower so that's not an option. But with a baby on the way that will be sitting in the tub I need a way to keep it clean without scrubbing it every day. Cause ain't nobody got time for that.

OMG i used to have that kind of shower head in Manhattan it drove me nuts! but for keeping showers clean my two go to products are comet for the tub and tilex with bleach for walls and grout. not organic by any means but they WORK.

I've found that keeping a spray bottle with white vinegar in my shower and spraying it down after use everyday real quick helps to keep it cleaner longer.

And if you don't have one already, get a squeegee to wipe off all the water off shower walls after every time you use it - helps a lot in cutting down on mildew.

Does the drain clog easily? Ours does and once it isn't draining properly the tub gets a film on it immediately from the standing water, even if it's just a little bit clogged. I have no advice, just commiserating.
  • I went on a massive cleaning binge last night for about 4 hours.  The place is freakin' spotless...and I can barely walk today from the hip pain associates with all that activity.
  • Thanks for the tips re: the grossness of my tub! Ill be investing in vinegar and a squeegee to see if that does the trick! Already looking forward to cleaning out our spare room this upcoming weekend (its a mismosh of a laundry room/cat litter box room/crap we dont know what to do with room)

  • I washed and organized all of the baby clothes we got at our first shower, but we have another one this weekend, so I'll probably have to reorganize after it.  DH finally finished some of the projects on the "Better be Done Before Baby" list I gave him.  This is the cleanest I've seen our garage in years, and our spare bath renovation is finished except for paint!  My mom offered to fly down and help with a deep clean before LO arrives, which I thought was a great idea until she mentioned coming a couple of weeks before our EDD and just staying until after the birth.  I love her, but I don't think I can take having her out my house for that long!  I think I'm just going to hire someone.
  • I'm pretty sure DH was bitten by the nesting bug this week (so unlike him). He was out for spring break, and cleaned up our backyard/patio, seriously cleaned the garage, and cleaned and organized our upstairs bonus room (that we basically use as an attic). He is such a hoarder, but he even threw stuff away! I'm amazed. And definitely not complaining.

Nesting is soooo happening right now! Last weekend I was up at 6am reorganizing my entire kitchen, I went to the garage to put something away and didn't go back in until everything was organized, junk was gone through and lottttsss of black garbage bags were filled- all while sockless and in Jammie's :D . Today, I scrubbed all window tracks with baking soda/vinegar and an old toothbrush! Swept, mopped all floors and used magic erasers on the baseboards. I think tomorrow I might rest! After I wipe down all the ceiling fans and magic erase both tubs/showers.... Although a few posts up someone mentioned cleaning the washer - l love the idea!
  • @yogahh also I find that if we use body wash instead of bar soap the soap scum film isn't so bad and it stays cleaner longer... I 2nd vinegar and squeegy too
  • For me nesting has been making lists and having my husband do stuff...I honestly have just been binge watching Grey's Anatomy and taking naps and eating candy off of my stomach. We haven't quite done the nursery but we did clean it out and painted samples on the walls. My husband has spring break soon so he is going to do it that week. I also plan to call a cleaner as soon as I go into labor so they can clean while I am in the hospital.
  • I was just telling DH that I hope the nesting kicks in soon! I have so much to do. He goes, "I think nesting goes away with baby number three." Well, crap.
  • I splurged by hiring our regular cleaning service to do a deep clean (cabinets, fridge, oven, etc) in mid-April. I *want* it all to be clean (nesting?) but no way am I scrubbing the oven right now. As far as organization and general tidying up go, I've always been a neat freak, so aside from DH's desk :# we are looking pretty good. I gave up on his desk years ago.
  • I hate cleaning!!!! I clean so everything can be clean and I don't have to clean. However wen my nesting kicks in I don't tell anyone. I just go on like its a military operation. I've just got s steamer from eBay, and I'm gonna steam sterilise the crap outa everything!!!!
