Toddler moms - how do/did you know when your toddler was ready to drop their nap? Or cut it short? 2 feels really young, but we are engaging in a serious nighttime battle this week and his pediatrician suggested cutting down the length of his nap. I'm not ready to give up nap time for my own sanity, but 9pm feels like a very late bedtime for a 2 year old.
About a year we went down to 1 nap. Doesn't matter what time she lays down in the afternoon, I never let her sleep passed 4pm and that's helped get her to bed at a reasonable time. Unless she's going through a growth spurt then it's just whatever lol.

  • @laurenmdrn16 totally appropriate! And cute
  • Going for a wax this morning...might possibly be the last before delivery...kinda scary. And awesome.
  • Thanks ladies. I just really don't want to shave my legs since MH isn't here and I feel like asking my son to help would be going down a very dangerous road!

  • It makes me laugh how active lo is after I've had a spurt of activity. Went for a 2 mile walk this morning and now sitting at the bank doing my name change. And she is just kicking away now hat I'm off my feet. I know it's normal, but doesn't make it any less funny!

@VS2016 yes! I get accidentally kicked almost daily at bedtime. Plus, DS prefers to sit on my right hip in the rocking chair if he's not laying across my bump, and him being on my right side makes LO move to my right also...so then my right side is getting pressure/hits/bumps/wiggles from inside and outside. I feel bruised there sometimes tbh. I'm really trying to move DS away from rocking cuddles (even though I love the cuddles) since it's getting so uncomfortable.
  • Just did a trial run for my makeup for my shower tomorrow...which I never do...but I haven't put on makeup in months so just wanted to be sure. Now I can't decide on my lipstick. Total first world problems but seriously stressful when you're pregnant. I'm just hoping that how I'm planning to do my hair works because I do not have the energy for a trial run on that one!!

@Bltbear82 Did he just turn 2?  If so, I'd be more inclined to think it was the 2 year sleep regression than him being ready to ditch the nap, but I guess every kiddo is different.  DD went through a sleep regression just before 2 as she was learning to converse better.  She didn't fight bedtime but did wake up really early  and take short naps for a couple of weeks.  When it was finally over, her nap lengths went from consistently over 2 hours long to closer to 1.5 hours, give or take.
Yes, his birthday was last week. Good point about the regression, I was hoping we would just gloss right over it this time but apparently not. He loves nap time (and until this week loved bedtime), but bedtime is a fight I'm not winning. I'm so drained after coaxing him for over an hour every night this week. He would beg for more books and at least that's manageable, now he just screams. Kids are super fun.
  • Okay here we go! Does anyone else here looks like me while pregnant, no BUTATTALL! JUST ALL BELLY AND BOOBS! It annoys me... But my husband still adores my whole entire pregnant body. Thank you Lord. Before preggo, nice but at all times. But I am very Grateful
  • Just wondering when everyone started thinking that it is ok to ask me how much weight I have gained?? I don't get how people think that this is a perfectly fine question to ask. What if I just started asking women how much weight they had gained-everyone would be so offended. But just because I'm pregnant its ok to ask me? Uh no.

I'm going to get a bagel now.Nope it is not okay to ask you that question even when you're preggo! How RUDE.

For those of you who are stock piling diapers: how do you decide what brands to get?  Are you getting a variety?   What about for sizing?  I  registered for huggies because that's what SIL recommended, but I didn't want to ask for too many because who knows what's going to end up working best for my kid?
We decided on Pamper's Swaddlers with DD1 bc of the reviews, word of mouth, and bc we were told specifically that Huggies weren't good for blow outs. Fortunately, Pampers Swaddler's are amazing and DD always blew out of any Huggies she had on. Huggies wipes also dry out her skin on her butt but are great for thoroughly cleaning her hands and face. we use Pampers wipes as well.
I brought 1 box of each brand to see which brand is going to work best for baby's skin.
  • VS2016 I too find the toddler kicks to be very uncomfortable!  I feel so sensitive!  It makes me laugh when one sits on my lap and keeps scootching backward, but honey, nowhere to go!  and it's only going to get smaller from here.

  • @VS2016 I don't have a toddler but I do have a dog who has no respect for my personal space. The minute I sit down she is all over me and she loves walking up and over my bump to try and lick my face. I know the baby is well protected but it hurts! I try to block her and push her off but she's quite crafty, I can't imagine what it would be like with a toddler!

My friend was over the other night and I was hopping in the shower. She caught sight of me in my undies and busted out laughing bc she "never noticed how much of a no ass" I have :( I think the pg belly accentuates it.

  • I just found out from my mom, that my uncle's girlfriend (who is 29 years old, 30 years younger than him) is pregnant. Due at the end of this year. Ew ew ew ew!
He's divorced and has children in their 40s and 30s with grandkids in college and high school.
My son won't ever meet this kid, probably, because they live half way around the world from us. But it's so weird to think that my son has a second cousin who is his age!
Yes, age is a number but ew, gross. Sorry. I probably should have put this in UO or FFC. But I am in shock.
  • @Pascal86 that sounds super annoying. I love that you actually put on a scarf knowing fully that it's the worst advice ever. I would've not work one on purpose! Hopefully she settles down a bit. Sounds like she's really excited that's for sure!!

  • Not the same as toddlers, but DH and I just started locking the cats in the office at night (it's the one room in the house that has a door that closes, besides the bathroom). The cats jumping on my belly had begun to be an issue :( We tried training them away, but it didn't work, and while I love cuddling with my kittehs at bedtime, it just wasn't flying anymore.

My mom and sister face timed me the other day and my mom said "let me see the pregnant version of your Grandma Flo ass" (flat, flat, and more flat). Then my sister goes "and wtf happened to your face?! It's like doubled in size, except your nose, your nose has tripled in size and looks like dads, I don't even recognize you!" Thanks a lot b*tches!
  • I'm on modified bed rest until my next doctors spot on Tuesday due to a scare last night. Because it was a weekend, I didn't think to ask (I'm going back to hospital tonight for another steroid and will ask then), but to prepare myself, I thought I would see thoughts here.

I have an office job.... Am I still able to go to work tomorrow?
  • @AliciaD39 what happened? are you ok?

i don't have any expertise but I'm sending lots of positive vibes your way!!

Usually not. MBR means essentially being off your feet as much as possible but you're able to make something to eat, go to the bathroom on your own, etc. Other than those type things you're supposed to be off your feet. This was the definition per my doc when I was on MBR. Hope everything is ok!

  • @AliciaD39 Oh no! I am sorry to hear that! As far as going to work, I'm not sure. Since it's a desk job I'd say you'd be safe to go as long as you're sitting most of the day and can have your feet up, but I am no doctor. I feel like they should have clarified that for you, without you having to ask.

DH is SUPER worried about this, mainly I think because our cat is so heavy (~20 lbs).  He doesn't jump on my stomach though, just walks over it to get up by my face, and usually I have my belly/lower half turned to the side anyway.  I had asked my MW about it at the beginning of pregnancy , and she said it shouldn't be a problem.  I will help try to keep the cat from being on my belly directly to appease DH, but honestly since he's not jumping on there, just walking, and it's not causing pain, at this point I personally am not concerned.

The cat walking on my poor sore boobs though... now that is painful and terrible! ;)

    Thanks @LadySamLady @doozer1345  @AdorkablePixie @yogahh @LemmyRN

I'm okay! Had some bright red bleeding for a couple of nights so they wanted to check me out- high BP (160/100, but I have a heart condition) and they were showing that I was having contractions so they wanted to make sure it wasn't early labor. I am getting steroids for baby's lungs--

i am am curious and will ask tonight, but they said my inner cervix is still closed, but my outer was at 1cm. They said they wouldn't be surprised if I was a STM, but were concerned since I am a FTM (that's prob what caused the bleeding).

i didn't even realize they measured the cervix in two places. I guess I just want to know how soon after the outer does the inner follow on opening.

Prob the worst part was it scared the hell out of my mom with my DH calling her from the hospital. The last time, he had to tell her I was in heart failure so I spent some time last night talking her down from crying. She is the best, but I admit I shared her fear when they said something about admitting me last night. I guess those bad memories don't really go
    away.

I'll definitely get a note tonight and let my boss know. Thanks again!!!

I'm in a similar position. My cervix has shortened to 0.9 and I'm on complete bed rest. I've also been wondering how long after we efface to 0cm do we start to dialate. I don't think there's any real way of knowing. We have a bed rest support thread if you want ideas on what to do or just want to vent about it.
  • @AliciaD39 take it easy, better safe than sorry!

I just cleaned out our bathroom cabinets for renovation. I found a leftover pair of mesh underwear and a humongous cold compress from after delivery last time, both of which made it into the save pile.
  • @kp90 how is everything with your so going??

I was just happy she wasn't telling me to eat onions, which is what she usually says when I'm sick. I'm pretty resistant to being told what to do like this, but she can be so in-your-face about stuff that sometimes it is just easier to do it. So frustrating though.

Apparently cats on the belly in and of itself is not a problem (according to my OB, my NP, and my BIL who's a doctor--DH insisted we ask every medical professional we know because he didn't believe it wouldn't hurt baby). But now my belly is so big that it's hurting *me* :)  Also, the last straw was when cat #1 tried to climb up on me, slipped because of my round non-squishiness, and tried to hold on with his claws:( I had to explain to my OB that those weren't the weirdest placed stretch marks ever...
