I woke up this morning with swollen hands. I ate a salty dinner. I think you should make sure to drink more water and eat less salt... that's what I'm going to do!
I have been retaining water as well. My wedding rings are a little tighter in the mornings. The end of the day, if I have on taller sock, there is def a line from my socks. I need to cut my sodium level. Thankfully my blood pressure was great at my last appointment.
It it gives me a little bit of relief to know I'm not alone!

Yes!!! I've had bad swelling in my calves/ankles. Lots of water retention. I think it's because I'm on my feet most of the day at work. I notice it is much better on the weekends when I can stay on the couch with my legs up. Also, making sure my pants aren't too tight on the legs has been helpful with comfort levels. Just trying to be mindful of sodium and drinking lots of water! As long as your blood pressure is alright, I wouldn't be too concerned. Just another perk of pregnancy!
My blood pressure was fine at my last appointment as well. This week I over did it on the salty things and I really need to be better about drinking water.
Thanks ladies it is nice to know I am not alone. It is odd though. My hands are fine it is only my feet / ankles. I don't feel like I have had any more salt than usual. I never cook with it or add it to dishes I eat (DH hates it ). I will try to drink more water and see if that helps.
Mine started this wk (18) as well, but usually only after walking a lot or in the evenings. Propping feet up amap when I get home from work. Ice water is my best friend!
Compression socks work wonders! I'm a nurse and I'm on my feet 12+ hrs a day so invested in some. I have zero swelling on my feet and ankles when I get home. It feels great to take them off tho, as they do make me hot at times. My whole family got varicose veins from pregnancy so I'm trying to not get them. I would suggest investing in some they're totally worth it!

Yeah my feet have been swelling every night the last couple of weeks, especially if I'm wearing heels to work. Everything I've read says its normal but to try and put my feet up at the end of the day. Yet another fun pregnancy symptom, as if we don't have enough already. Good luck!
I wake up most mornings with my hands swollen and even had to take my wedding rings off! Good thing DH bought me a new set for our 10th Anniversary and I never got them sized. I can wear them now.
Swelling is the worst!! Once it started, I was like an air balloon. Basically the same advice as everyone else... Start compression socks early, watch your salt intake, drink lots and lots of water and keep your legs up as much as you can! Oh and if you are bummed out about not being able to wear your rings, pick up a silicone band from Amazon.
Swelling is no joke, while you might just be prone to edema, you should go get your BP checked ASAP. It's better to be safe than sorry. Also keep an eye on your weight gain and if you get pitting in your skin (i.e. socks or jewelry leave marks that don't go away immediately, etc.), those are also telltale signs of something more serious. I don't mean to scare anyone, but I know at least 5 people who've had serious issues with preeclampsia, and it all started because they ignored a little swelling.
At 19 weeks, I just ordered new flats this morning... pretty sure my feet are growing/the start of warmer weather has things a little too cramped. I haven't noticed any swelling elsewhere... just the dang shoes are snug. My feet have been the same size for 10+ years... thank you, baby boy.
Re: Swelling?!?
