The warm weather has finally inspired me to go get a pedicure this afternoon. My confession is I haven't gotten a pedicure in over a year and they will probably make fun of my feet.
@1faceinacrowd as long as you don't hashtag it, completely appropriate!
I have given in to almost all of my cravings (healthy and not) this week. Like to the point where dh said "fast food again?" I am totally loving it and decided I can start new on Monday. I am going to live it up with a non healthy diet weekend!
So one of the admin assistants at work, who I do love dearly, is driving me nuts lately. She and her mom did a joint New Years resolution to start eating a low carb diet. Which is great, good for them. But my coworker has somehow decided that gluten-free = low carb. So she eats things like gluten free cookies and gluten free bread, etc. Which are not necessarily low-carb or even healthy. But whatever, that's her choice. The annoying thing is that now she's a strict gluten-free person, she expects to be accommodated as if she had an allergy or a food intolerance.
Today the company is buying lunch for everyone because we have some temps that are finishing up a giant project. So we're brainstorming places to order from and she keeps saying "I can't eat that," or "do they have anything there that I can eat?" And it is driving me nuts. I just want to scream, "yes, you can eat this stuff, your fad diet is not an allergy!" She does not have Celiac's disease or any kind of intolerance to gluten, she is just one of those people who arbitrarily jumped on the gluten free bandwagon because of some vague idea that it's healthy. And now we all have to make sure that food we get in the office is something she "can eat." People like her are the ones making life so much harder for people who really do have Celiac's or a real intolerance. Also, if you're being offered a free lunch, it's rude to be picky. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. There was one day the office was getting Jimmy John's, and I can't eat that because of the deli meats, so I just bought my own lunch rather than expecting everyone to pick another place.
I had a friend come over to watch daycare kiddos so I could buy Garth Brooks tickets!!! Happy 30th Birthday to me!!!!
Well worth the friend coming over! I've seen him three times, once in Vegas for his acoustic show, once in Nashville for his concert relief benefit show and this past spring in Milwaukee as part of this last tour. He's excellent live!!
@Snaps816 this cracks me up!! My mom gets all pissy when people are fake gluten free and will go on to tell them all about the research on why it isn't particularly healthy for you unless you have a real issue.
I let DS lounge on the couch this morning eating cheddar bunnies and playing on my phone, I felt like he was 17 years not 17 months.
My daughter is a little monster if she gets ahold of a phone. We used to let her play with them when she was younger like before she turned a year, but now she turns into a raging brat when we take them away. We can't even be on them when she's up.
@Lynnlove28 we started letting DS watch videos on the phone while we get ready in the morning and now he freaks out if we don't let him! I want to stop giving it to him but it also lets me blow dry my hair in peace so I'm not quite ready yet.
@Bookhousegirl yeah I am one of those "terrible parents" who will give DD my phone if she's really showing her butt in public. Hey if it lets me finish getting my groceries, whatever. But at home it drives me up the wall. I can't even talk on the phone without her snatching it out of my hand
DS acts like a brat when we take away the phone or turn off the TV too. Makes me wish we'd never introduced him for that reason alone, not because I'm opposed to screen time.
My confession: It annoys me when people post general rants on threads that are meant for UO or FFFC. I don't want to get to the end of the post and wonder... ok, so what's the confession? Or... that's not really an unpopular opinion. Rants are the reason we have threads like Bitchfest Monday and WTF Wednesday.
@tisunge602 If that refers to my gluten-free rant, I guess I can move it elsewhere. Or like, save it for Monday. But I've always thought of all of these threads (WTF, bitch-fest, flame-free, etc) to be in the spirit of, here's a place to vent or get out your snarky thoughts for the day, and maybe someone else will relate or get a laugh out of it.
@tisunge602 that's why we need to have a weekly randoms thread because I wouldnt want post a rant on the wtf Wednesday on Friday. The randoms thread we can bitch about stuff any day of the week!
@Snaps816 Yours is one example but lots of other people do it. I wasn't trying to single you out or be "police-y." And @Lynnlove28 I don't see anything wrong with adding to WTF Wed. or Bitchfest Mon. after that day is over. Maybe we should at a TP (Throat Punch) Tuesday/Thursday, lol.
@Snaps816 She would drive me bonkers. I have already called out a friend for her gluten free diet. My little sister has Celiac's disease, and some people have the nerve to be like "well one piece of bread won't hurt her right?". It's all because somebody they know are on the gluten free diet but not actually medically gluten free... yes one piece of bread makes me sister very ill.
I am eating peanuts by the fist full wishing they were potato chips. If I had a bag, they would have been gone 30 minutes ago. Probably more of a random statement but sharing anyway...
I'm really tired of being the primary (now sole) income in our family. It would take a lot of the pressure off if it wasn't mostly (or all) on me. My husband knows, and is trying... There is only so much that can be done by him to change the situation.
@Snaps816 my sister in law has Celiac's disease and I know she wishes she didn't so she could eat anything she wanted and not be sick the next day. I think I would chew someone out if they said they are on a gluten free "diet" ( to try to loose weight) Trust me that lifestyle does not make you eat healthier. My sister in law has gained weight since being diagnosed. Also your coworker can eat gluten free most places. She can order food without the bread or a salad. that is what people with the actual disease have to do! You are totally justified in being annoyed I would be too.
I get super annoyed with posts that are riddled with errors in grammar and mechanics. It's everything I can do to hold my tongue sometimes. I would love to break out my red pen and just go crazy.
I love everything about the Kardashians. I have been watching every single one of their shows since they started. I also follow them on twitter, Instagram, etc. Khloe and Kourtney are my favorite.
@snaps816 I actually DO have a deadly allergy (I go into shock) but it's my responsibility to provide food I can eat, not demand everyone else change the way they eat. Except my husband... or else he can't kiss me! And honestly, there are very few places unwilling or unable to change their menu to remove allergens. My friend did an elimination diet, and we managed to go out to eat and she ordered dairy free, gluten free, egg free... and still managed to eat more than a salad.
@snaps816 I agree that your coworker is exaggerating, you don't act like you have an intolerance when you are on a diet. There is one good thing about the gluten free fad tho. My sister in gluten intolerant and she has been for well over 10 years now, much before the fad started and back then the options for gluten free were extremely limited and even more expensive than now. She had to go to specialized stores just to get bread.
Now in every regular grocery store you have huge gluten free sections with many kinds of bread, cookies, crackers, cakes, scones, flours ect... Everything you ever dreamed of.
So to me this fad makes me really happy for her, and because it is much easier for her to cook and eat and I can actually bake her birthday cakes instead of always buying a mousse or something.

@Alyeena my dad is a celiac and feels the same way. The fad has made it much easier to find stuff to eat.
But its popularity has also hurt him. He has had waitstaff in restaurants roll their eyes when he asks for dishes gluten free, and people don't always take him seriously because they think he is just being difficult or trendy.
He has had the diagnosis for about 10 years now and he always kind of side-eyes people who would voluntarily impose food restrictions on themselves because of how inconvenient it is.
@bananers I agree with that too, sometimes people at restaurants do that to my sister too like "Not another one of those". And after seeing her go trough that I would not want to impose it on myself to eat gluten free all the time. So people who do it for a fad make me want to roll my eyes too.

@bananers and @Alyeena my Mother has a gluten intolerance and she has had similar experiences. I was out with her when she told the waiter she could not eat wheat and he brought her food out on a wheat bun after assuring her it was wheat/gluten free. He was so mad when she said take it back I can't even eat it of its been on the bun. I had to say "she will get sick" before he would take it away. She loves that there are more options, but you also can't trust all the options and sometimes restaurants lie because they think it is just trendy and then she us sick for days.
I also have a food intolerance (soy) and I have to explain what will happen if I eat it to get people to actually go check with the cook if there is soy in something. They think I just want to avoid GMO food and get annoyed.
Also LOL to gluten free being low carb. I have seen the mix of flours etcy Mom uses to replace wheat flour on what she bakes.
@alyeena in my experience, those who impose it on themselves are often "gluten free... Except when I feel like it." There is a big difference between "Or I die / get really sick." and "I feel like it."
Re: FFFC
Is "Bye Felicia" appropriate here?
