People are strange. When you're.... pregnant.

Re: People are strange. When you're.... pregnant.

  • @ahernandez16 the next time someone says that I would say "What's wrong with being black?"

On another note, while at work someone walked up to me while in a group and put their ear near my stomach and said what's going on in there. I was so shocked and pissed off but because I'm at work I tried to keep my composure while saying "don't ever do that again". Goodness!!!

  • It hasn't happened yet, but I'm just waiting for a stranger to touch my belly so that I can touch theirs back.  Ha!  I remember hearing of giving that response on the Sept 2012 board.  Someone, please do this.  I'm not sure if I am gutsy enough.

It's our third kid so people are quite curious as to whether or not we tried to get pregnant this time.  Really?  You want to know about our birth control practices?    How much detail do you want on how, exactly, this happened?

Hi! I was on S12 for a short time too, but I had trouble keeping up because DS1 was so needy!

This is our third also so I get a lot of "were you trying to have them so close together?" Yes we were, but that's really none of your business.

  • The worst comments I've gotten have been related to this being our first girl after two boys. "You're done now since this baby is a girl right?" Or "I bet you're so happy it's not another boy aren't you?"

Well I'm not sure we're done after 3 regardless of the fact that this baby is a girl, and I'd have been thrilled with a third boy! Boys are awesome!

  • @michellabanana  Why do people think this is the renaissance and women have to be shut away for their third trimester. I've has students (I work as a MEDICAL magnet school...where students are studying to enter into Pre-med programs) ask me "When are you going to stop coming here?"...ummm when my water breaks? I'm a teacher, not a construction worker. If I am lucky enough to be healthy until the end, I'm going to work until the end...why is this so shocking?

  • This makes me so, so glad I am basically a SAHM.
Although last time I was pregnant we had just moved and were checking out churches and it was the dreaded "meet and greet time" (side note--why is this a thing?) and someone came up to me and asked for a hug (this was our first time at the church)--and since I'm not a touchy feely person, I said no thanks and offered my hand for a shake.  She said "too bad, I'm a hugger" and hugged me.  I almost walked out right there.  Being 38 weeks pregnant probably didn't help anything.  Someone else at that church just walked up to me and rubbed my belly.

  • Seriously. .. this is why I keep my "friend" circle small.... half these comments sound like the people were joking or being playful and you guys are on here just ragging on even your own family like they are stupid... glad your not in my family .... smh
  • I haven't had anything too crazy except all the people who feel sorry for me that neither baby is a girl! Also, all the people I barely know who asked if I got pregnant with twins naturally.  Really? Boundaries people!!

My sister also had twins and right after they were born some strange lady came up to tell her at Walmart to tell her that the reason there are so many twins is because God is making up for all the abortions!! People are crazy!!
  • About an hour ago, I walked out of a café with my lunch, and a complete stranger said "careful... don't eat too much... see what happens?" while gesturing towards my belly. I think he was flat out implying that I was fat, without realizing that I'm almost 7 months pregnant!
  • Ha ha...

  • I have several aunts who have never had children. One of them asked repeatedly when I was going to stop driving during my last pregnancy. She also believes that you shouldn't hold another woman's baby if you are on your period.  :|

  • I have coworkers telling me all the time "you just wait..." all the time and like most of you have said, it's annoying because I get that my stomach is going to get bigger and sleep is going to get harder and heartburn is going to get worse and basically according to all of them my life is going to suck.  But this is all new to me.  I don't really need to be told "you just wait..."

Really the only person I can take saying that stuff is my mom.  For whatever reason, when she says you just wait, it doesn't bother me at all.  Maybe because I know she's coming from a place of love and we have the best relationship.  From anyone else, it's just annoying.

So happy this isn't just me.  My mom can say or do something and it'll get an eye roll or a "really mom?" but my MIL or someone else will do the exact same thing and I'll get legitimately angry.  I know they're all coming from a place of love but for some reason anyone but my mom doing some of these things is just irritating.
  • @Sgoldberg247 yep.  Exactly.  Moms are special

I don't understand. Science is real Auntie, this is not.

It's apparently a wives tale, which I have heard more than my fair share of growing up in a Mexican family.  I have no idea why she is the only person I have ever heard say this in my entire life. I actually just googled it and quite a few members of random Baby Center boards believe this to be true. HAHAHAHA

Mexican wives tales are insane. I have heard that I need to eat what I'm craving when I'm craving it or my baby will come out looking like my craving???

Also a Mexican coworker told me once when it was raining and I had forgotten my umbrella that I needed to go home (during work) and take a shower because it was bad luck to only get the top of my head wet?
My favorite is the safety pins on your panties during an eclipse. Or maybe the one about owls being the Bruja. Ooohhhh. The one about lifting your hands over your head is going to make the cord strangle the baby. There are way too many to choose from. They are all insane!
