NESTING

Nesting has hit me HARD! All I want to do is go home and clean my windows and scrub the floors- seriously, I am obsessing over windows that I have never even gave a second thought to, and have been thinking about them all day. I cant wait to get home to clean them!
This weekend alone I cleaned, baked, did crafts for the nursery and tended to my sick husband. Anyone else nesting like crazy, and what are some of the most random things you have found yourself doing?

Re: NESTING

  • I have definitely noticed an increase in my activity around the house especially on the weekends. This weekend I had H fix some dresser drawers that have been driving me crazy and I did a ton of laundry. I have been obsessing over cleaning the shelves and vacuuming the rugs in LO's nursery which is getting a little old. H tells me all the time that I am going to wear a hole in the carpet.

  • Definitely nesting. I went through two magic erasers on Saturday, on my kitchen alone. I scrubbed all the cabinet doors till my fingers cramped. Then I threw a load of stuffed animals in the wash. Now all I can think about is pulling the fridge and stove so I can clean the floor. But my back and hips do not want to keep up with me :(

  • I deep cleaned the house on Saturday and I'm sitting here right now at work thinking of other things I need to do bc it's just not clean enough. I went under furniture, cabinets, appliances, etc... I even went through all the stuff in the bathroom under the sink and threw a bunch of stuff away bc apparently DH and I have a massive issue with hoarding excessive amounts of hair products, lotion, fragrances, etc. And bc I wasn't about to do it myself I even made DH clean the pool and scrub the pool deck yesterday bc it was annoying me that it was just a little dirty... He isn't too happy with my new found cleanliness obsession lately. :)
  • It just dawned on me... if I clean everything now, I will need to clean it again in May before she is here as it will all be dirty again!!! And this is coming from someone that is not a cleaning fanatic.

  • Definitely. We are moving the guest room to a different room so DS1 and this new guy can room together, so we started that project Saturday. I'm washing all the old baby things and reorganizing all the closets. Vacuuming obsessively and Saturday morning I too scrubbed the cabinets despite the fact that they look pretty much the same, I felt it had to be done. Also I keeping finding dust bunnies (we have two dogs) and I feel like I'm going insane from fetching the vacuum repeatedly! I think I have to accept that there will be dog hair on things (and usually I do) but right now it's driving me nuts.
  • I've been nesting hard too. This weekend I cleaned and reorganized all the cabinets in the kitchen and scrubbed down the inside of the washing machine because we have a front loader that tends to hold water and it can get pretty funky if you don't stay on top of it. Then just the general cleaning that I do, maybe a little more than normal. MIL came to visit Saturday, so I made sure it was nice. I've been working my way through the house with the steam cleaner too, but I can only do a room at a time. It kills my back to push that thing. I have 2 rooms left before I'm done, so not much more

  • Yeeees.  I can't stop.  I'm trying to take advantage of the energy as much as possible.
  • I still feel like a nesting delinquent. I've had the urge to get cleaning/organizing but haven't actually done much. Part of it is because my back pain is making everything difficult but even if it weren't, we've been waiting on my dad to come and take away some stuff for storage so that we'll actually have room to make the baby's nook in our 1 bedroom apartment. He is finally coming this week and our shower is Saturday so I'm thinking it will be go time after that. I've never been great at cleaning/organizing but I really want to make sure that everything is in tip top shape before we bring our baby girl home.
  • Yes, definitely!! It hit hard just like last time. I've been going crazy working on projects in every room and trying to get the nursery together. I've given DH a to-do list too (he tries to be nice, but doesn't understand my urgency). I'm sure part of my frantic pace is influenced by the fact that DS came at 36 weeks and it's likely this LO will be the same. I feel like there's barely any time left!

  • I'm definitely cleaning everything in sight! I figure, if I get to the deep clean things like walls, floor polishing, curtains a little bit at a time, I can just do my regular cleaning between now and May along with those one or two extra things per week. This week was walls since we had pictures taken at our house. I'm with @bluejay3030, when I have the energy (and if I get good nap-time time from DS on the weekends) I'm trying to take advantage of it.

One of my more random decisions was to clean out from under DH's and my bed and reorganize our bedroom when I was supposed to just be putting away laundry.

The garage area just off the kitchen and the bathroom closet are next to get reorganized!

    Yep, allll the things!
This weekend I started going through our house and piling up things to go into our basement for the town wide tag sale we are participating in...it's not until MAY 7th!!!! But the way I've been tearing through this house you'd think it was this weekend!
Luckily DH indulges in my need to organize and helped with the nursery and clearing stuff out of there as well as beginning to work on the custom closet shelves he's building.
    The nesting struggle is real.

  • I'm not really cleaning much but I am reorganizing the entire house!  I have gotten through most of the closets, cupboards and drawers and pitched every item I knew I wouldn't miss.  I'm selling a bunch of things on eBay and plan to get rid of more stuff during garage sale season and the seasonal mommy mart.  It's like I can't stop though- it's the most powerful urge to just simplify things.
I am also working on the nursery like a crazy person.  I don't think I can rest until it's completely finished!

I have the nesting urge, but the problem is all the stuff I want to do (I've already cleaned the house) is organization stuff that requires buying and putting up shelves.... and we've spent our "fun" money for the week already (highly recommend Kung Fu Panda 3 btw) OR it's outside stuff that if I tried to do my hubby would yell at me because it involves lifting and pushing our lawn mower (not too terribly heavy) and our leaf sucker-upper-shredder which is RIDICULOUSLY heavy, even just pushing. We also need to build a new flower bed because that's where we put our shredded leaves to break down
  • I need some of this nesting mojo. Maybe coming to this thread can make it rub off on me.

Welcome to my life. I dont know how I am not broke...

  • I want to nest. I feel the urge but sooo tired and our current living situation will end not long after the baby is born. So who wants to hang stuff and decorate. Also being suddenly jobless and worried about bills stops the shopping. I feel so behind. Shower isn't until April so not even sure about what I might need. I did clean our bedroom window sills. Our humidifier had led to black mold. Once I got that up might as well keep cleaning right. Wanted to work on base boards but exhaustion won out. I could sleep all day if it wasn't for back pain.
  • Oh yes, I'm nesting big time.  I'm trying to save the cleaning as much as I can until it gets closer to Due date but I have been organizing like crazy!! this house is going to end up looking like someone with major OCD lives here
  • Nesting here as well. Organized our closets, pantry and garage. Cleaned Windows, washed curtains. All baby clothes are washed and ordered by size. We bought the last items, only missing piece is the stroller now. For next weekend my patio cushions are on the list and our cars. The first trimester I was so tired, it was even too much to just get the essential things done. Now I'm like, bring it, what's next??? Lol
  • I've been having nesting spurts that end up with me not being able to move for 2 days. I'm currently obsessed with all of the baseboards in my house and I NEED someone to clean them for me! No way I could manage that. I almost want to hire someone to come in just to scrub my baseboards and doors. It would be well worth it.
  • Umm... my form of nesting for this time- painting my interior of my house and updating lighting fixtures. Lol.

  • Dear nesters, if you are bored and have nothing else to clean... Come on over :-) Something went wrong with me. I'm not getting the cleaning vibes yet.....
I have the cooking started though. Vegie lasagna batching party last weekend. I'll provide the food, so come on over :-)!

  • I LOVE nesting and cleaning in general.
However I have a baby bird in the nest right now (toddler, who mostly doesn't nap) which makes "nesting" downright an exercise in futility and hopelessness.  I am logging in the late night hours to get this nesting done and not getting the sleep I need but it is always a trade off.  I wistfully think of my first pregnancy and how fun and easy it was to nest, then I wistfully look at my toddler and remember LO as a newborn and am so proud of how far LO has come and love spending my days with LO and cherish these last moments as our little family of 3.
My to-do lists are my lifeline but are also ridiculous because so much needs to be done.
But I am making progress, albeit slow.
Anyone who wonders "why I can't get these things done" here is a video for you ;)

  • Does anyone plan on hiring someone to deep clean before baby or after arrival? I've never had a professional house cleaner, but the more I notice the projects stacking up, the better of an idea it seems.

I was thinking about it. But in an effort to save money, I'm going to do what I can. What I can't, I'll be roping DH to do so.

I'm going to have someone come a week before due date to do a deep cleaning and then the next day we're going to have our carpets professionally cleaned

I'm going to do the main stuff myself - putting away laundry/dishes/reorganizing what I can/general cleaning like vacuuming etc myself. Baseboards, windows, dusting (sneezing physically hurts now so I've been putting off that particular chore), walls, etc, I'm going to hire someone to do. I'm just too overwhelmed with all of the regular stuff I already have to do - it made me feel a lot less anxious about it when I decided to hire someone for the deep cleaning. Especially now that it's getting harder to keep up with some of it.

You're welcome to come "nest" my house! @caterin
  • I didn't think I had hit the nesting stage yet until my Hubby mentioned it last night. As I organized the baby room, kitchen and was cleaning random areas of the house he looked at me and said "someone is a nesty nesterson" Guess it's hit me! Where did the time go?

  • I've been 'nesting' for about 2 months now.  I basically sit at night thinking in my head, going through each room, and picking out the tiniest projects that NEED to get done (or so I think).  Dusting trim, scraping paint off trim from when we painted rooms, cleaning light fixtures, cleaning window tracks, etc.  It's tiring!
  • I washed all of the baby clothes and blankets today and I'm packing my hospital bag tonight. We start renovations in a week or so and are moving out temporarily and I feel like doing stuff today helped alleviate some anxiety, just in case we aren't back in before the baby arrives.

But panicked about a two bathroom total renovation in 8 weeks.
  • Nothing, yet.  The dh told me today that he thinks I can't decide on a name because I haven't started nesting. I'm not sure how those two are connected, but I did let him know that spring break is in two weeks and that's when the nesting begins.  More like spring cleaning, with child slaves.  Who am I kidding, kids don't clean.   ;)  I did put a shelf together and moved the rocking chair to my room. I also put the stroller and rock n play together, but what kind of person gets those things and leaves them in a box?! I would have put them together if is gotten them 6 months ago.

My birthday is at the end of March, and I'm seriously considering asking for a professional deep clean for my birthday. Adulting/nesting at its finest.

  • Reading about everything you ladies are doing is making me want to do more! I've been organizing more than I've been cleaning. We live in a 2 bedroom apartment and my husband was using the second room as his personal closet and workshop area. Now I've cleaned it out, made room in my closet for his stuff, moved his things into our room, moved his workshop across the street into a storage unit, and today I cleaned all of the baby clothes, blankets, sheets, and burp/wash cloths.
I am going crazy though because I know I've done so much to get ready, but nothing looks clean, it just looks organized in the bedrooms! I feel like I have so much more to do!

We could clean the carpets ourselves but yeah, doubtful so we are hiring for that.  I would hire a housecleaner ANYTIME for any amount of times if it was possible.
