Implantation Bleeding or Spotting?

Ok I have a three year old daughter and we are trying for number 2!!!!

I have had spotting (Dark Brown) only when I wipe (is that considered spotting?) since Friday. Last night I had Bright Red (only when wiping) one time and then today dark brown again...... Thoughts on if this is implantation bleeding or start of period??? I am on cycle day 22 today if that makes a difference.

Are you temping to confirm ovulation?

Implantation bleeding is rare and can only be confirmed in hindsight.

The thing with spotting is that it can mean something or it can mean nothing. There's really no way to know until you get AF or a +HPT.

Do you know when you ovulated? Otherwise, the fact that it's CD22 doesn't matter.

I have dark brown to red spotting every cycle (13 cycles so far) and have never been pregnant.

CD doesn't really matter without knowing when you ovulated and what your LP typcially is.

Spotting can be for a number of reasons. Implantation bleeding is 1) very rare and 2) can only be confirmed in hindsight. All you can do is wait and test if AF doesn't show up.

Oh good, I wanted to edit my last poem to make it better but apparently you can't do that on closed threads.

Sometimes I spot before my period. Sometimes I spot after my period. Sometimes I spot for no reason at all, sometimes I do not spot at all. Sometimes I spot sitting on a train, sometimes I spot flying in a plane.

Assuming you aren't temping or being ultrasounded- it means nothing, Jon Snow.

To me, it kind of sounds like you're starting your period or you O'd later than usual. I had spotting around my O date accompanied by mittelschmerz cramps. But like everyone else said, if you're trying to know if you're pregnant, then the only way to know is to test...

I'm tempted to join in the snarking but just for the sake of being informative: IB is rare, but more importantly it's usually not bright red or dark brown when it does happen. HTH.

Wow thanks for all the support guys..... thought this was meant to be a community. Most of what was said could have been said a lot nicer. Guess I will find a more supportive community to be a part of. I wasn't asking if I was pregnant it was just a question about spotting that I have been wondering about for a while.

You asked "implantation bleeding or spotting". In other words, "the pregnancy thing or the non-pregnancy thing". AKA "am I pregnant or not?"

It would have also been nicer if you lurked and took the time to understand the community before posting and getting your nose bent out of shape.

Just so you know OP luteal phase spotting is negatively predictive of pregnancy. Also, studies have never been able to show that implantation is capable of causing spotting/bleeding. Basically, while a woman may have some luteal phase spotting and end up being pregnant it's highly unlikely that it was "implantation spotting." There is no evidence to show that "implantation spotting" is anything more than a myth born of wishful thinking. No pun intended.

ETA: If you wanted it to sound like an innocent question about luteal phase spotting and not a version of "am I pregnant?" you may should have phrased it more like "I was just wondering if anyone knows what the most common causes are of luteal phase spotting. I've been having some spotting and I'm just wondering why. Does anyone know if this is due to low progesterone or some other problem?" Or you know pretty much any phrases that doesn't, as @MrsDho pointed out, basically boil down to "Hey guys do you think I'm having the pregnancy thing or the not pregnancy thing?"

I've found this community to be exceptionally supportive through the trials and tribulations related to TTC, especially when it comes to issues like IF or loss.

Where's your support? Have you joined in the community to collaborate, or are you just using us for your personal google? Stick around and you'll learn a lot. This kind of thing happens A LOT (you would know that if you lurked) so we tend to have a little fun at the poster's expense. It's nothing personal.

OP, this community was an amazing resource for me while TTC. They really helped me through some tough months. I made sure to contribute to the community and get to know many of them. (even though in a weird, internet stranger kind of way.) I offered support on the daily threads. I asked random questions not by starting my own discussion, but in those daily threads, where there is a specific spot for questions just like yours. If you stick around for a bit, and see how these things actually work, you may find that these ladies have a lot of knowledge they would like to share. They're awesome.

Congrats on making the big decision to try for # 2! That is so exciting! I know you know this already, but there is no way to know if this is IB or your period aside from waiting to take an HPT. I think the part to focus on is whether or not this is even close to the norm for your cycles. If it isn't, then there is a chance it could mean something since you are actively TTC. It could also just be a weird cycle. I am an every 32 days girl like clockwork. I know when I ovulate and it is pretty much always right smack in the middle of my cycle. I have never started my period more than a couple days early (at the most) so spotting 10 days before my period would definitely make me wonder and give me some hope that maybe this is the month. Hope this helps even just a little. Best of luck with your TTC #2 journey!

Sorry @chrissy&chase4ever, but that's just bad advice. Spotting can mean any number of things, and it can mean nothing at all. And it doesn't matter whether a symptom is "even close to the norm" or as far away from the "norm" as it could possibly be, because symptoms and cycles fluctuate when they feel like it, regardless of how regular a cycle had previously been. The variables are practically endless.

I've decided to come back and offer real experience...

This last cycle was the first time I've had cycle breakthrough. It came exactly one week after ovulation. Sure, it crossed my mind that it could be IB.... But I waited. I didn't ask an Internet forum what they thought.

Update: I got my period. And ended up passing a golf ball sized clot.

So, obviously I'm totes prego.
