November 2016 Moms

Any BTDT moms out there expecting to be high risk again?

I have been high risk in my past 4 pregnancies and expect to be again in this pregnancy. I have had cholestasis in each pregnancy and am pretty much guaranteed I will have it in this pregnancy.
Being high risk before was stressful and I felt alone. I figured it would be nice to start a check in for those who expect to be high risk.

Re: Any BTDT moms out there expecting to be high risk again?

  • This will be my first time being classified as high risk, though I should have been last time. I have Asherman's (intrauterine adhesions), it was only recently diagnosed and hadn't been treated as it was too late to cancel the cycle and, against the odds, I ended up pregnant. I'll be high risk for any future pregnancies since my risk of abnormal placentation is really high, particularly since I had serious placental issues with both deliveries. I'm going to be requesting a caesarean this time (both previous deliveries were vaginal) but from chatting with some physicians here, I have a feeling that the OBs I'll be seeing are probably going to prefer that option as well.

  • I'm not technically considered high risk at this point, but I am going to be followed very closely. I had a total thyroidectomy almost a year ago and as a consequence I also have hypoparathyroidism which puts me at risk for hypocalcaemia.

I I know that's not quite what you're looking for but you're not totally alone!

I'm 38 so apparently that qualifies.sending healthy wishes to all the high risk mamas!
  • @comealongponds I think it counts. I think knowing in advance that you'll probably be high risk can be more and less stressful simultaneously. I know for me my RL support has changed after each pregnancy. As it reoccurred in each pregnancy, support faded and it was more like "well that's normal for you." It's still scary whether it's your 1st or your 5th.
I want to show my support for those of us already considered high risk and those who may become later on (be it expected or not).
    GL and H & H pregnancies everyone.
  • I'm actually a bit relieved at being classified high-risk this time. Without giving too much detail to scare the FTMs, things went bad fast with my last birth, partly because of my own stubbornness and hubris and partly because I wasn't taken seriously about some things which should have been red flags. I feel like I'm going to have more control and I feel like my risk factors are being paid attention to this time around and that I won't be facing the consequences of ignored risks like I did last time. I feel safer.

  • @KilgraveMadeMeDoIt I definitely feel way more supported and cared for medically which is a great relief. For me this time I feel there will be a gamble with time (my due date isn't clear, only thing that is known, right now, is that I have to be at least 5 weeks now). When to induce is vital with cholestasis, so I do feel more nervous this time around.

  • I am here with you too. History of very early deliveries with both of my boys after bed rest, scary low BP which is worse while pregnant and 11 miscarriages but I'm thinking this is a sticky one (or two) based on my levels this time being much much better. DH has some stuff going on so he basically doesn't have the right stuff to make a baby in most of the sperm, just enough to fertilize and have my body reject it, but that usually happens by 3-4 weeks and I'm 5+2 right now.

One men positive to being high risk is you get to see baby with more ultrasounds. Probably the only good thing but it's so nice having lots of pictures to look back at and really see how the babies developed over time.
  • I had severe pre-eclampsia with my daughter. Then gestational hypertension with my son. I'm on BP meds (heart disease runs in my family) now, so I hope that helps.

I'm watched very closely, but haven't been labeled high risk this time around.

  • I am considered high risk due to protein C deficiency (a blood clotting disorder). For my last delivery, I saw a midwife practice that consulted with the maternal fetal specialist. They didn't seem to communicate well and the specialist had no part in the delivery. I am on the hunt for a new practice that is all inclusive and hoping for a better experience all around.

  • Seems I'll be high risk and have a cerclage put in based on what my uterus looks like after DD was vacuumed.

  • I'm considered high risk again and it'll be nice to check in with y'all! My first pregnancy was a disaster including the loss of one of my twins and preeclampsia. Add to that I'm now AMA (I'm 37) and my dr. made it very clear very quickly that I'd be high risk from the start.

  • Well I get to solidly join the high risk group now as in addition to my issues I mentioned earlier, I just found out that I am carrying twins (potentially mono-di but likely di-di) and I have a large SCH next to Twin B.

Did they give you any info on the hematoma like their expected outcome? Fingers crossed it resolves naturally for you!

  • @thatlauragirl no one is saying much yet...just watching and waiting at this point. From my research, SCHs detected this early typically have a worse outcome than those found later like a 50/50 chance) and of course larger is worse than smaller. We have a follow up ultrasound next week that should give us a better idea of what our chances are. My bleeding has stopped, which is promising but that doesn't say much about what the SCH is actually doing, other than it seems to not be actively bleeding at the moment.

  • Im high risk for my age (37) but also for recurrent miscarriage. I had 3 losses last year and 1 before DD was born. Im on progesterone this time to try and prevent what happened last year.
