Gestational diabetes

Hi

1st pregnancy, I failed the test. Had to poke myself daily and see a nutritionist

I don't want the same thing to happen so I am doing jazzercise 30 mins a day, sometimes longer.

My question is, should I use my fitness pal or something similar to make sure I don't overeat and maintain my weight

Anyone who has been through this and has helpful advice, pls reply

Re: Gestational diabetes

  • It honestly isn't going to matter much if you maintain weight or not, GD can happen to anyone. Best thing you can do is speak with your OB. I've already had blood work done to check my sugar levels and will be monitored closely since I was GD last time but so far my numbers have been good.

  • I agree. I did not have GD with DS1 but I did with DS2. I was eating better and exercising more and still got it. with that being said, exercising and eating well should be a staple in any pregnancy. But I'm totally for giving into those cravings too, no one wants a cranky, hungry pregnant woman

  • It's my first pregnancy so I wouldn't be able to provide much advice, but my friend had GD for both of hers and she was walking 5km every day, eating only organic healthy food, limited the sugars, etc and still got it.  If it's going to happen, it'll happen.  But like @evilgreencows5 (lol love your name) said, healthy diet should be apart of any pregnancy

  • I had it for my first pregnancy and my dr said you can't really do much to avoid getting it again.  I'm going to exercise and try to loosely follow the GD diet until I officially get diagnosed.  It certainly won't hurt anything!

I completely  agree  with  what  the other ladies said. However I will add that if you find it helpful to be able to visually  see how much you've eaten or what specifically  you've eaten in terms of macro nutrients  or just in general more visually  inclined you might find mfp  really handy.
I use it and just set my weight to maintain  and add 200 calories for pregnancy. I also like tracking my exercise through  there.
