STMs+ what's on your registry/list?

Disclaimer: I'm only doing a registry for the completion coupon, and if a grandparent happens to stumble upon it and wants to buy us something, that's a nice bonus! But this is really more of a shopping list for me.

We we are having another boy and we kept most of DS1's stuff, so we don't need much. Here's what's on my list so far. What's on yours?

-sit/stand stroller
-infant bathing pad (DS1's got all moldy and we threw it out)
-Tula baby carrier
-new sheets, changing pad and a few other nursery-related items

Re: STMs+ what's on your registry/list?

  • I already bought a used Ergo carrier. Also on my list is a new nursing cover (my cover from DS didn't have the rigid part on top that allows you to see hands-free and I definitely want that this time), bedding for DS's toddler bed since we'll be keeping his existing bedding in the crib, and a sit'n'stand stroller. Also, clothes if this one is a girl.

Not it doing a registry though. I am cheap and like buying things secondhand.

  • Basically the same as you. New infant tub (ours also for moldy), standing board for the stroller, some new sheets, a new changing pad for the diaper bag and parts for my breastpump. Also doing it for the coupon!

We have a girl and this time we're having a boy so we do need to swap out a few things

    - Second seat for our City Mini
    - boy clothing
    - boy-themed swaddle blankets
    - bassinet (we never got one last time, but realized it was a miss and want to try this time, we didn't like using the RnP)
    - Second mirror for the back seat since we plan to keep DD rear facing as long as possible
    - Car seat cover since he'll still be in the carrier seat during winter months, DD wasn't
    - boy-themed bibs
    - new nipples for all my bottles (the bottles we have, but the nipples grossed me out and we tossed them all)
    - pacifiers
    - new bottle warmer
    - 2nd snot sucker (that seems like a gross thing to share lol)
    - new bottle brushes/drying rack
    - 2nd rectal thermometer (another thing that seems gross to share)
    - new burp cloths
    - considering getting a new carrier - I had a k'tan last time and didn't like it at all so I never ended up wearing DD
    - boy-themed bedding/room decor

    Edit:
Aaaah yes, you all reminded me that I should probably start stalking out a used double jogging stroller and see what I need to do to get a new pump (I also get it through insurance, but I'm thinking about getting a hospital grade one this time since my PISA crapped out around 7 mos with DD).

  • Are you guys getting a new crib mattress? DS1 is almost 3 and miraculously still in the crib. We will graduate him before DS2 arrives, but do you think we should get a new mattress after 3 years of use? It's in pretty good shape and we have always kept a waterproof pad on it. But do you think a used mattress is a SIDS risk?

  • @bananers I have never heard that you couldn't reuse a mattress. If it is still firm and in good shape I would reuse it. I didn't with ours only because the crib mattress went with the kid tot the toddler bed.
  • -Dr Browns bottle warmer - Gerber flat fold cloth diapers for spit ups - A second camera for monitor - Not sure if we will get a 2nd crib/mattress (DS has a 4 in 1) or try to use a PnP until baby needs a toddler bed.

All black britax infant car seat
    already bought an ergo
    crib/mattess/couple of sheets
    swaddling blankets
changing pad to put on top of our dresser for now
    bouncer
    new Medela pump

we have a 4 & 6 year old (will be 5 & 7) when baby comes...and had gotten rid of almost everything, but definitely don't feel like we need what we did before...lots of unneccessary things.

Hmmm I was planning on using the same one.
  • Our son is 6 and this pregnancy was a big surprise but I have nothing saved from him. I also feel like are less things we "need" this time.

    Crib/mattress/sheets
    Burps cloths, towels
    Clothes
And I'd like to try baby wearing this time
    1 multi use swing/seat
    Carseat and a cover

  • It's been 5 years since I had a baby so I need so much. I already got a Tula, a PPB bag, still have and use my BOB, and my friend gave me her chicco carseat, rock n play, and medela pump. I got a good deal on a my breast friend pillow on zulily a few weeks ago and I've been slowly building my cloth diaper stash. So... We need:

    Crib
    Bath tub
    Medical stuff like clippers
    Clothes clothes clothes
    Swaddle blankets
    Botttles

Hmm I think that's it. I'm very minimal, especially with kid 3. No crap allowed!
  • @kattyleigh I love the "no crap allowed" motto.

  • We're just starting to inventory.
    -just bought a 2-seat stroller
    -new infant car seat
    -a few new bottles
    -newborn cloth diaper covers
    -new carrier/sling
-whatever we might need for a summer/fall infant, since DS was a February baby

I'll get a new breast milk pump through insurance, but they won't process the order until I'm within a month of my due date.
  • My list is pretty identical to everyone else's but if we are having a girl we will wind up adding more.
We will add new bedding bc the current nursery one didn't hold up very well.
Will also add a baby carrier because we didn't use one for DS but I think I'll get a ton of use once the new baby is here.
I hate that we need to reregister for a car seat but our infant one got moldy in a basement flood and we didn't realize it for weeks so we had to toss it.

All my big ticket items for my daughter were neutral so I am luckily going to be able to reuse almost everything. We're not sure what we are having so I'm not sure about clothes.  We will have to supplement some clothes since we are a season off though.  I was able to pick up another Tula wrap and I already have a double bumbleride that I needed when I watched a friends dd.

I do want to get a toddler Tula since my dd will be able to size up and the baby will then use the standard.  I will need a video monitor for babies room.  I'm also trying to decide how early I want to start cloth diapering this babe.  I have a full stash of one-size diapers but I love the idea of building a newborn stash.

@bananers -I have read not to reuse crib mattresses because of an increased sids risk but I'm not sure to what extent.

Edited because I seem to hit post early every single time I post.
  • I am not doing a registry since this is #2, went gender netural on alot of things for DD (she will  be 2 soon so it wasn't that long ago). But, things are my list of must gets are:

-New crib sheets & decor (DD is moving into the guest room and getting a brand new room. Stripping nursery down and redoing it- everything was neturel except her sheets and wall hangings so easy switch)
-New breast pump (insurance will cover 100% on new one)
-Some new clothes (even if it is a girl, they are on opposite seasons so all the clothes I saved for the 1st year are unusable)
-Already had a 2nd attachable seat for my Uppababy Vista so I can make the stroller for 2 very easily
    -Diapers!!!

  • We had a lot of neutral items for DD so we are reusing all the big items. I've never heard that about not reusing mattresses so I'll have to do some research on that!
-plenty of extra sheets, we only had 2 sets with DD and that got so annoying
-clothes either way because DD was born at the end of October so we can reuse some clothes but will need some end of summer fall clothes
-I really want a sit to stand stroller or whatever it's called
    -a new bassinet
-I didn't ever wear DD but I have a feeling that in order to function with 2 I'm gonna need to wear this baby so I need to figure out what will be easiest to use.
  • Double Bob Jogging Stroller
Try Craigslist for the BOB Duallie. That's where I got mine and it was worth every penny! Or do the REI 20% off trick!
  • We kept everything so we don't need much!  I am looking for a good dual camera monitor.....any suggestions?  Also, if its a boy we will need clothes!  If its a girl we will be set.

What is this trick you speak of?

Oh right, a monitor!  DH likes to think we don't need a camera in our son's room. That kid would climb the walls if we let him. I definitely need eyes on him when he's in his room.
  • We have already bought most of the big stuff. Since our other kids are 11 and 6, we have to buy pretty much everything new.
A few things we still need are:
Bath sling/seat (I hate messing with an entire baby bath and find these much easier to use in my regular tub)
Clothes (I saved a little, but my other boys were winter babies)
    Diaper Bag
    Breast Milk storage supplies
    Blankets
    Crib Bedding
    Swaddlers
Crib (I just need to order it)
Breast Pump (My insurance will give me a pump up to a $28 value, or they will reimburse me for that much if I just buy my own and submit to the insurance for reimbursement)
I'm not registering for any of this stuff, but if a friend or family member asks me if we need anything, these are things I can tell them.
We already bought the infant seat and a new PnP, with bassinette, changing table and bouncer seat all built in, as well as a Video Monitor, Nursing Cover, Carseat Canopy, Baby sling, Bottles and a bunch of diapers. And some of my best friends have given me a bottle warmer and a jogging stroller. I felt like we were on a roll toward being ready, till I sat down to type this list! YIKES

DD is only 10 months right now so we have pretty much everything and its all in good condition. DD will probably be good to go into a toddler bed (we're pretty sure she's going to be a hard one to keep in her crib as she's already trying to climb everything) . If it's a girl we won't really need anything except new pacifiers if she takes them. If it's a boy well need clothes and more boy themed nursery stuff (sheets, changing pad cover, etc). DDs stuff is all pink. We probably won't get new boy themed big stuff. I'm sure if it's a boy he'll never know he swung in a pink swing. My mom already got us a double stroller since I started babysitting our friends baby too. We've also moved DD to a 3 in 1 carseat so we can use the infant carseat for this baby.
  • Diapers.
    wipes.
maybe some more of these bibs which catch the milk under baby's neck when they are super little: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004I2JU02/ref=mp_s_a_1_57_a_it?qid=1457035168&sr=8-57&keywords=bibs&pi=SY200_QL40&dpPl=1&dpID=417Lw7MzGqL&ref=plSrch
    diaper dekor refills.
A few replacement changing table pads (so you don't have to remove the entire cover - a waterproof oval mat that you lay kiddos but on for those really messy changes. The ones from our 2.5 yr old are now so worn and half are split up the middle, no more waterproof I guess.
a bouncy seat because I didn't have one with my first.

  • Now that we know we're having a second boy we only have some bigger items to get...

    Sit and stand stroller

new white onsies, and sleepers because those got torn apart

crib sheets (we only had 2)/mattress protectors

    diapers/wipes

    burp cloths

i just got a good deal on an ergo, but we need the infant insert and I also want a sling carrier for the really early days.

A few new pumping materials and bottles since we basically lost all of the tops

I think that's pretty much it. With DS I made baskets for all of the rooms in our house I would sit in that had diapers, wipes, pacifiers, cloths, nipple cream, etc and that was really helpful so I'll probably do that again. Although, now that I'll have a 2 yr old running around I don't think I'll have the luxury of sitting on the couch all day  :'(

  • @bananers I already am envious of FTM's for only having one during those early days. It was hard enough getting through it with only DS to focus on, I have no idea how I'm going to survive having two! Although I guess we're used to sleep deprivation by now  ;)

    old well worn city mini

    Need:
    Everything else! Ahhhhh!

    Wants:
new stroller, ergo, Tula ring sling, halo bassinet, new pump..., free stuff from friends.

I was worried about this, too, but then DH reminded me that we have daycare and our moms!! lol  It'll be tight on our budget since I won't be getting paid for 5 months, but we plan on keeping DD in her regular routine while I'm on leave - she's at school 3 days a week then the other two with our moms.  I'm sure I'll have days where I feel guilty about it, but it'll be best for everyone's sanity!  DD will also have just turned 2 when the baby is born, so I feel you!

  • @SkiChic626 that's amazing! DS's daycare closes for the last two weeks of August, so probably my first 2 weeks post-baby. Luckily DH will be home. But after that we're switching to a nanny so we'll probably have her come once or twice a week to help out initially but otherwise I'm on my own ( plus my mom whenever she can).

  • Bookhousegirl Yeah, ours closes at the end of August, too, but it's only a day or two so that they can switch over from camp to school.  That's really good you're having the nanny come while you're still home - it'll give you a good idea of how she operates.  I know a few people who I work with who've gone back and forth between daycare and trying nanny's and they all ended up back with daycare, but they were never able to stay home while the nanny was there at first.  Good luck!!!

  • DS will be turning 7 in a few months....and this LO is DH's first, so we are basically starting from scratch. [Help!] Trying not to be overwhelmed but between work and the kiddos sports schedule...moving next month, and attempting a promotion, I'm worried we will be scrambling. DH is typically the cool-calm-collected type so I'm left to freak mentally on my own. I'm aware a lot of items are a waste of time, and we've been lucky to gather a few small things as handmedowns from friends including an older model Graco car seat w 2 bases. (Of course, the car seat barely fits in my car when you take into account DS's state required booster; And it will be extremely uncomfortable for any adult attempting to sit in the front passenger seat.). DH and I are also on opposite work schedules with only 1.5 days off a week together minus work training obligations....so any planning or coordinating is left to either myself or....myself.

Somewhere admist everything we have to find and purchase a crib, stroller, diapers, clothing, wipes, basic toiletries, bottles, and a breast pump. Then assemble /figure out nursery in our new place. The one splurge I would also want is a glider. It saved my sanity for sleeping/nursing DS.

With only 5 months to go.

DS's school is closed for 3 weeks in August. And I'm due at the end of week #1. So hopefully if this baby comes on time we'll have some special mommy & DS time then my ILs will help while I'm in the hospital and DH is taking 2 weeks off post-baby. So fingers crossed it will all work out. Of course DS came 3 1/2 weeks early so knowing my luck, DH will go back to work just as the school closes. Though if that's the case I may tell him to take the first week (or less) off and then take off again when school is off.
  • Mine is mostly the same. This is my first I know I did put more on then most mom's do. I was thinking ahead yes I'm due 8/28 but let's say I go sept. You have 4 months, I was thinking about Christmas. I also did mine now if people wanted to get stuff with income tax.
  • We will be needing to get another crib, mattress, we got rid of our swing and bouncer so more than likely those, bottles, car seat, city select double stroller, diapers, wipes, toiletries and not sure what else. Eesh :anguished:

  • We already bought our crib. So we just need some crib sheets, crib mattress, more swaddle blankets (you can never have enough), new changing pad cover, extra camera for monitor, city select stroller with some accessories, bottles, diapers, and clothes - if this is a boy. We bought all gender neutral big things (swing, bouncer, bumbo) for our first.

We may need another high chair. At what point do kids just sit at the table? Or do toddlers just get a booster seat or something?

  • @justaudrey I'd just get a booster seat for your kitchen table if your daughter is going to be close to 2. We packed away our high chair around the time DS turned two and he has done great at the table (with a booster seat). Plus, then you have a booster for going to grandparents' house, traveling, etc.

  • @justaudrey - my 2 1/2 yo is in a booster. Sometimes he sits at the table for a quick snack but he's too messy an eater still and will also try to leave the table every 5 minutes if he isn't strapped in. We are using the booster feature from our high chair (we had the Gracco 4-in-1) thankfully it's separate from the high chair parts we'd need for #2 if he isn't ready for just a chair by the time we need the high chair.

Ftr we moved him to the booster around his 2nd birthday.
  • Did anyone not use a highchair at all?  DD wasn't a fan of the highchair, pretty much from the beginning.  Someone had given us a Fisher Pricer booster-type seat that we attached to a chair, and she was good with that.  She's been in it since about 4-5 mos and she's 20 mos now and still in it.  We're debating selling our big fancy highchair that I think she sat in maybe 5 times and just getting another one of those - our table seats 10, so we have plenty of room to sacrifice a chair.  Thoughts?
