Maternity Leave Binge watching

Which shows are you planning to binge watch on Maternity Leave?

Now that I am slowing down on the weekends, I'm trying not to binge too hard on Netflix so that I can save the good stuff for Maternity leave.

So far my list includes:
  1. Nurse Jackie (I started binge watching this show this past weekend with my BFF while she was in town. Now that she's gone I need to stop because there is only 7 seasons and we made it to Season 3 since Sunday morning)
  2. Fuller House (This will probably only be a day's worth)
  3. The Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt (Second season, the first season was hilarious --being released on Netflix in April)
  4. Gracie and Frankie (Second season is being released on Netflix in May)
There were a few shows/new seasons that are being released right at the beginning of April! Woohoo! Can't think of what they are right now but I recall being very excited.

Hold the phone, there's a second season of Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt? How did I not know this??

I've been binge watching The Office already and will probably watch it again on leave. It's just so damn funny, and you don't have to pay super close attention.

Other shows: Game of Thrones (probably toward the end of leave, so I can pay for just a month or two of HBO Now); maybe new seasons of Doctor Who and Sherlock? Oh and Orange is the New Black should come out during that time, too!

omg it's so good! Edie Falco plays a head ER nurse. She's also a junkie. She's also a badass. You should check it out.

It's set to be release on Netflix 4/15/16! Perfect timing!

  • So I always laughed when I saw previews for this but was finally convinced to watch pretty little liars - excellent binge watching!

  • Oooooo yes Nurse Jackie for sure!!!!  I'll probably also start Blacklist, I've heard good things about it.  I'll give Game of Thrones a whirl, cause why not what else am I going to do?!
  • Haven't figured out what I'll watch while I'm out; I tend to be pretty picky, and I don't have the impulse control to hold back if I find something good between now and then (I'm looking at you, Fuller House).  In the past couple months, though, I've made it through The Wire and The Americans on Prime, and can't recommend them highly enough for anybody who needs ideas!
  • I may add the Americans to the list. I've been wanting to watch it.

Also, I really want to hold off on Fuller House but I've already watched one episode and the only reason I haven't blown through the rest is because SO has been home and he thought it was super dumb. lol He's about 8 years older than me so he just doesn't get it. My sister and I would watch it every day after school and would always watch the reruns.

  • I have never seen pretty little liars but this is absolutely on my binge list for maternity leave. Also planning on Orange is the new black.
  • I'm planning to start either The Walking Dead, OITNB, Fuller House, or Dexter... Have not watched any of those thus far.
  • I've started a LOST rewatch! Also the last 25 episodes of NOVA are on the PBS app, so that's been pretty sweet for bedrest.

  • Dexter is always a good time, I own them on dvd and plan on watching them again. I just finished Friends (for the 100th time),sex and the city, how I met your mother and big bang theory.  I'm already on leave so I'm running  out of stuff. On deck, I have Shameless (us), parks and recreation, OITNB, fuller house, and Scandal(I think that's what it's called, Kerry Washington is in it).
  • Might rematch Hell on Wheels and Lost Girl. I think a new season of Orange is the new black comes out in June? Jane the virgin, switched at birth. I like Fuller House so far. And a few others already mentioned. And random reality shows on Hulu.
  • GREAT thread! I actually just started a list on my phone the other week about what to watch on ML. So far it includes:
Girlfriends Guide to Divorce (season 2)
Mindy Project (season 4 on Hulu)
    Kimmy Schmidt (season 2)
and I also have never watched Project Runway and could binge watch so many seasons of that.

I'm currently trying to finish The L Word...

Just added Peaky Blinders to my list. Heard good things, but haven't seen any of it, and I'm not even sure what the premise it lol.

Game of Thrones when it comes out

Walking Dead (I don't want any of it until the entire season is out. I know, I'm crazy)

Downton Abby (I'm behind like two seasons at least >.< Have to find a new streaming site since it isn't all on Netflix)

    Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 2

    House of Cards new season

Arrow (I'm watching this exclusively with fiancé though, so idk about this really being a ML binge)

Eta: Forgot about Daredevil, and Cooked...
  • Wait.......there will be time to watch TV?!?

  • There are no current shows that interest me. I am hoping to have time to learn to crochet and I have a painting thing to finish.

So. Much. Time. Seriously, I don't know why people say you will be too busy to function during maternity leave. All newborns do is sleep, eat, and poop. It's not the most entertaining thing. I was so bored (happy/exhausted, but bored) at the beginning of my first maternity leave.
Yup this. Granted you'll likely be so exhausted you won't remember much of what you watched (I watched all the old Star Trek movies on Netflix with DD and couldn't tell you the plot of a single one), but there is *so much time* between feeding every 2-3 hours and snuggling/calming baby.

I would start with something simple like a scarf. If you get stumped on stuff I can try to help you on the FB messenger.

I loved The Wire. If you're looking for shows in the same vein, Top Boy (British) and Gomorrah (Italian) are excellent.

I'm going to be watching reruns of all my shows that are on Netflix:
    -Gilmore Girls (already partially through)
    -Friends
    -How I Met Your Mother
    -Friday Night Lights ( <3<3<3 )
-Parenthood (though I may end up crying way too much, loooooove this show)

I also started Fuller House, DH told me to stop watching it without him since I made him watch the first two episodes. Honestly, he hates it and thinks its lame but also "wants" to watch it with me.

ETA: whatever old shows I can find on Hulu. Did you know SYTTD is on Hulu??  :D

  • I'm rewatching Bones, Castle, Criminal Minds, CSI, White Collar, Chopped, House Hunters International, and will probably do  Disney movie marathons with DD

  • Add  Master of None if you liked the office - Aziz Ansari - it's good!
Also Jessica Jones is pretty good.
You, Me and the Apocalypse is good too (another office alum)
And keeping with the end of days theme - Last Man on Earth is another easy watch!
  • I'm thinking GoT when DD isn't around (night feeds, nap time) and Disney movies when she's up. And maybe the Land Before Time movies, because she really likes Dinosaur Train right now.

I may be one of the few to NOT have Netflix or any other TV show subscription. So hopefully what is on our normal Direct TV channels is sufficient, or I figured I may do alot of reading. I really want to get in the routine of getting out of the house frequently and going on walks at the dam/lake and meeting with DH for lunch a few days a week. Also, most of my in laws and cousins are school teachers and will be out for the summer. I am totally looking forward to having three summer months of ML!
  • Oooooo yes Nurse Jackie for sure!!!!  I'll probably also start Blacklist, I've heard good things about it.  I'll give Game of Thrones a whirl, cause why not what else am I going to do?!
We love Blacklist.  I feel like it has slowed down now that we watch it weekly.

  • Game of Thrones
    Scandal
    OITNB

  • Fuller House
    Fixer Upper
Doctor Who (especially if the newest season is available for free on Prime, since I totally missed all of it)
    Hell on Wheels, maybe?
    Pretty Little Liars
    Firefly

Maybe catch up on shows like Supernatural, Arrow, The Flash and iZombie
  • OMG DH and I just finished Nurse Jackie....I don't know that I have every loved to hate a main character as much as her! Dexter is also amazing! That show was crack for us!
I am saving Fuller House for my leave.  I will probably re-watch Sons of Anarchy.  Hopefully I can find Big Bang Theory (although I don't think it's on Netflix...is it?).  I don't know what else...although I will also be off while having a 5 and 8 year old around the house too so there is no telling how much true down time I will have....

  • @mrstrax What the heck is UP with Dinosaur Train? DD had never watched it ever before. We stream PBS Kids through our Roku, so when you select the app it shows little pictures of all the shows. For some reason she insisted on watching Dinosaur Train, never heard of it before. Where in the world did the concept for that show even come from?!? Dinosaurs...and trains. Because that makes sense? The only thing I could think of was that they took two things kids loves and threw them randomly together in a show. So strange...thankfully she just watched it the one time and then has been back to Daniel Tiger, Doc McStuffins, and Mickey...

  • @briterfly84 Big Bang Theory isn't on any of the streaming services :( I think you may be able to purchase seasons at a reduced cost on Amazon Prime and stream that way though.

I watched the first episode of Fuller House yesterday, and have no intentions of watching the rest.... It's not the same thing to watch that kind of show when you are 10 and when you are 34. :D

On a much more exciting note: This friday Netflix will release the new season of House of Cards!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed.  I found it painful to watch.  The other three episodes I watched he'd were better but definitely not a shoe I could watch all day.

  • I tend to like a mix between shows that have a plot to follow and stand-alone episode shows so I'll be watching:
-OITNB (I'll rewatch the previous season then the newest one)
-Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (above, old season then new)
-Broad City (new season coming soon on Hulu!)
-Nurse Jackie (never seen it and you all have me curious)
-Kitchen Nightmares (on Netflix and Hulu)
    -Chopped
-maybe Fuller House, I've heard bad things

May I suggest the following that I don't think have been mentioned:
    -Veep (amazon or HBO go)
    -Call the Midwife (Netflix)
    -Mozart In The Jungle (amazon)

  • @emgee27 I just finished Call the Midwife. Not a huge fan of comedies so Veep holds no interest for me... What is Mozart in the Jungle?
  • Ooohh I totally forgot that Netflix added season 2 of Broadchurch, so that will have to be added to my list. And Jessica Jones, so I can just round out a good number of David Tennent shows, apparently.
  • @emgee27 I just finished Call the Midwife. Not a huge fan of comedies so Veep holds no interest for me... What is Mozart in the Jungle?
It's about the New York Symphony and follows a girl in her 20s trying to make it in the classical music world. They also follow the Symphony orchestra cast, which is all sex, drugs and non-rock-n-roll.  They also get a new conductor who is wild and out-of-the-box (Gael Garcia Bernal, from Y Tu Mama Tambien - he actually won the Golden Globe this year for this role.)  It's one of those dra-medies, I really really loved it!
