Daytime Clinging

Ainsley thinks she needs to be in my arms at ALL times for the last week in order to nap. Usually I rock her then lay her down and the slightest move she's wide eyed. Her swing isn't even cutting it, idk what's gotten into her. She's getting so sleepy and cranky I'm not sure what to do! I'm glad it's daytime instead of night though! It's so tiring! Any other babies started doing this or something similar? Help?!?!?!?

Re: Daytime Clinging

  • How old is she? I noticed when DD was going through growth spurts she would get really clingy.
  • Loading the player...
  • She'll be 3m on the 4th I thought growth spurt too but she's been doing this for over a week now.
  • DD is 12 weeks today and has been clingy all day.  She usually will take one nap in her crib,  but she only lasted about 20 min.  But I'm being a bad mom and just soaking it in because I return to work in two weeks.
  • 9 weeks and this is us all this week. Moby wrap is helping a bit but my shoulders and arms are getting sore! And I haven't been able to get anything done...
  • This is definitely DD. The chores can wait, I've been cuddling her like crazy.
  • I think it's been mentioned a couple times but you should look up the wonder weeks. She might just be having a really fussy week, along with a growth spurt! It's really helpful, I often refer to the chart when she's been upset for a while and it kind of adds up.

Its kind of like the witching hour..but weeks wise lol.

So not being a bad mom!  Babies need cuddles!

Oh man this is what's gong on! Yup! Same thing. Whenever Olive is becoming enlightened, she gets clingy, cranky, weepy and yells at us a lot.

Can a growth spurt last this long though? Her last one she slept like a champ then ate a ton a day or two later then was completely back to herself. I soak up all the snuggles I can, but this momma needs to eat more than once a day and pee more than twice. Plus, she makes me so so sleepy but when I would start to doze off she'd wake up. I'll shake my head and ask her why and she just grins. Every. Freaking. Time. (I'm starting to believe she hates me)

A growth spurt I noticed lasts maybe three days. It all depends on baby! DD gets really sleepy sometimes and sleeps for what seems like a whole day! This lasts 3 days or 2. Or she goes thru a spurt where she's non stop can console or help her.

Like I said, you may want to check out the wonder weeks chart and read up on what exactly they are. https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12185642/wonder-weeks-29-30

it might help a little or give you some peace of mind that you DD does NOT hate you and you are NOT a bad mother! We all feel like this at times and it sucks, but it'll pass.

Have you tried any baby carriers? DD will also be 3 months on the 4th and has been only wanting to take naps while on my chest for the past week or so. I have been putting her in the Boba carrier and she falls asleep as I do dishes, clean or cook food.

I was looking at that too and I am just praying for some mercy lol! I can't imagine
  • Yup he's at 12 weeks and man has this week been crazy. I've only had success with day time naps in his bouncer ONCE! All others I have to rock him to sleep while listening to music. It has never been this difficult to get him to sleep. :(

  • For the wonder week chart I've heard you are supposed to go by the baby's due date and not by their birth date... Is this true?
  • Yes because it is basing it off of where their brain should be at. So DD was born on the 16th but due on the 22nd. She is "one week behind" developmentally for milestones and such. But all babies are different so don't worry if they haven't reached a certain milestone yet! :)
  • This thread is making me feel so much better.  Last night,  it took 4 HOURS for DD to stay asleep. She usually goes down drowsy and is out. But every time DH or I put her down,  she'd cry.  Then give us a huge smile when we showed up at her crib to get her.  I just woke up and realized I'm on her floor. I fell asleep patting her tummy after DH went to bed. :#
  • Same here! Normally is cool just chilling but the past 2 days or so she only wants to be held. I bought a wrap just to get stuff done. She is 9.5 weeks so wonder weeks is a little off for us. I'm thinking growth spurt as eating like every hour and 45 during the day lately. Praying she keeps her nighttime stretches though.
  • I'm so very glad I looked up the wonder week thing! I'm not crazy telling everyone my baby isn't acting herself & now I know why. Phew! Thanks everyone, it's just something we have to grit our teeth through and snuggle our babies up!
  • Growth spurt and wonder week happening here I think...God give me strength and patience.  :/
  • She's finally out of that! It was THE worst. I dread the next wonder week... Dread. It. I didn't know those even existed until this thread! Every pediatrician should have to go over this with new moms or give hand outs on it. I'm going to tell my pediatrician to start doing it or having the front desk person hand it out after first weight check. Tons of snuggles and patience! ... And wine.
