August 2016 Moms

Randoms (02/29 - 03/06)

What are your randoms for this weeks?

My husband just got off the phone with his family. I just hear "Do babies really NEED that many outfits?.... Yes but FORTY?"

Apparently his mother got excited, went shopping, and we now have... forty... sets of clothing coming.

  • I think we have that coming too... His step mom is very crafty.

  • Just hope it's wearable and a normal color! Lol!
  • We got a butt load of snow last night and the kids have a snow day...I want a snow day!
  • DH and I don't trust anyone to watch DD but my parents and two older sisters. My inlaws are crazy and DH and I don't trust them to keep DD. I get so mad when people say that "ill chill out when I have more than one kid." Now I may be wrong but I don't think I'll suddenly trust more people to watch my kid just because there are 2 of them now. That doesn't change the fact that my inlaws are spiteful assholes.

For moms that already have 2 kids, did you "chill out" when you had your second? Am I crazy?
  • @Lynnlove28 I did not just "chill out" when it came to who could take care of my kids. You are correct in saying that just because there is more than 1 child doesn't mean people change who they are. I am only a little more relaxed now as far as that goes because my oldest dd is 11 and can more than help take care of the younger ones. She is very protective and keeps a close eye on anyone babysitting. My MIL is crazy also so the only way the baby can stay with her is if she takes older dd also.
  • @Allisun85 I second the exchanging for more sizes. We had so much newborn and 0-3m clothes and no bigger outfits. Also, wait to wash/take the tags off because you also don't know when they will fit into certain things so the season might end up being off.

My MIL has the habit of buying a ton of clothes (that are not my style at all - like they all have some ridiculous statement on them) and takes all the tags off before giving them to us! I know it's well intentioned and I'm grateful for the clothes, but it's such a pain when we can't exchange them for things we need more.

  • @Bubblegum5586 I've been having pains in that area too and also can't figure out what it is. It's not a shooting pain and it's not cramping (which I also had last week) but it's been sticking around the past two days. I just can't figure out if it's bowel pain or baby pain.... and I feel bad calling my doctor, I don't want to be the needy patient lol! Anyone have any advice? For me, it's painful to the touch and almost a sore feeling and is located between my belly button and pubic bone.
  • @LWC1112 Costco pizza is life.
  • @Allisun85 I hope she bought different sizes! That'd be pretty sweet!

My random for the day... I don't know why, but I'm feeling super depressed today. I have to get off work at 5 and head straight to a 3-hour training class for this volunteer thing I'm doing. The class itself is actually pretty fun, but I'm feeling super blue for no reason in particular and I kind of just want to go home, curl up in a ball, and cry.

  • @texasmama2014 and @LWC1112 I am going to have to try this Costco pizza next time I'm there. Is it the stuff that's in the prepared foods section (refrigerated)? Or the snack bar stuff?

  • @tisunge602 We've had both, but tonight is the snack bar. It is totally greasy and bad for you, but is exactly what I want. :)

  • @Lynnlove28 I am actually more protective now that I have two. We go out even less and my mom is the ONLY person that watches them, where before I would occasionally let my aunt watch my daughter.
  • @tisunge602 snack bar all the way!!!

I'm terrified to allow my in laws NEAR the baby. They give their older grandson cans of whip cream. (Yes... Multiple) and think it's funny when he eats himself sick on the sugar. And they watch him every day after school, so it's not like "oh it's a special treat because we only see him every so often." Nope. Every day thing. I almost threw up just watching him down four cans of whip cream in an afternoon.

I can only imagine how they will try and spoil our little, who they only see once, maybe twice a year. I'm thinking we may have to tell them he is allergic to sugar....

Failed my one hour glucose test! The cut off was 135 and mine was 143. So now I have to go take the 3 hour test Monday. I'm so frustrated because I just want to relax and enjoy this pregnancy but it's one thing after another. I found out my blood pressure pill could have affected my sugar and I know for a fact I haven't been drinking enough water.
  • @texasmama2014 the pizza was everything I dreamed it would be. My husband also brought home some kind of chicken pizza roll up. Amazing.
    Pregnancy Ticker

  • @LWC1112 great. Now I need to go find the chicken pizza roll! Also, I now want regular pizza rolls now too.
  • @LWC1112 and @texasmama2014 it's a chicken ceaser roll, and it's delicious!

my rant for the day is.... We told my stepdad (been in my life for 30 years) that I was pregnant and he had a terrible reaction. He asked me if I was sure I was really pregnant, then asked if I was really sure this is what I want, and then after telling him it's a boy he said "so this is really happening, your that far along"!  I was in total disbelief and didn't know what to say, so I just left.  He's acting like I'm in high school and this is a bad decision.  I'm married, own 2 homes and DH and I have had the same jobs for 10 years.  After his reaction we haven't told anyone else,  I'm scared to get the same reactions (I'm 39 and this is 1st child).
  • @Samm116 ugh I'm sorry that was the first response you got. I had a fairly negative response from SOs parents and that kind of turned me off too. Thankfully every other person has at least said congrats and was somewhat excited. I bet the other people you tell will be excited for you!

  • @Samm116  gosh that's terrible!! don't let one persons reaction get your down though. there is always going to be someone that does/says something out of line, i'm just sorry that it was someone so important to you.
  • @Samm116 I am so sorry he had that reaction. Really doesn't make much sense to me. Try not to let that ruin telling others for you. It is a joyous time and you deserve to get to be excited to share the news.

Also thank you for identifying the mystery wrap for me. It will definitely need to be eaten again.

@Samm116 AMA was a much bigger deal years ago. That *might* have been his reservation? He was worried for your health, being an older first time mom?  A lot of information is coming out now that isn't the case, but our parents know what they were educated into when they were where we are - 40 years ago!

It sounds like you guys are close, so it might be worth trying to find out WHY he had that reaction, so it doesn't impact your relationship.

I wouldn't expect anyone else to react that way, for sure.

But between the knowledge we have medically to prevent defects, to the screenings they can do, to the fact people are just living longer, 39 is in many ways what 29 was to our parents. My mom made a comment about how she was classified as AMA when I was born, and asked if I had been (No, I haven't) - she was 29, I'm 30.

Sometimes the surprise / shock can lead to a severe case of foot in mouth too.... My husband is 39, and he's gotten a few negative comments too. "Wait... How old will you be when he's in college? Don't you want to retire?"

The amazing gift of this baby is well worth working a little longer! Plus, we're waaaaaay more financially stable and settled than we were 10 years ago.

  • If anyone is bored and needs a good read, go check out the Twatwaffle Tuesday post on July 2016. I cant believe we haven't had any posts like that yet. We are too busy with our rainbows and unicorns.
  • Hah, I just got done reading the whe thread .. Dramatic! I love it! Lol
  • ARHGGHGHGHHGHG. I am so annoyed. I just spent about 10 min trying to start my BRU registry online, but I couldn't get past the initial form! No matter what I did, it kept bringing me back to that same form, but with certain parts that I had filled out before now blank. I've been pinning things I want to a secret Pinterest board, but I really just wanted to start setting up an actual registry, and it won't let me :-(

  • @Lynnlove28 that thread was entertaining enough to distract me from my cold and horrific heartburn so thank you :)

@hummingbird125 did you try doing it in a different web browser? I tend to use google chrome and some sites don't work well on it so I have to switch to safari or something else.

  • I have the flu and have been off work since Tuesday. I went to the doc yesterday and was like "I think work is going to want me back at some point." He did for me what I wouldn't have done for myself and told me to take the rest of the week off. Definitely needed it

That was very entertaining!  Thanks for suggesting it
  • If I create a registry at say BRU, do I have to actually buy everything to get the completion coupon? How does that work? Thanks!
  • charmedlifex3charmedlifex3 member
    edited March 2016

@kattyleigh Nope. The "completion discount" is to buy the rest of the things you don't get after two months to your due date. (in other words, after your shower)

Usually there is some kind of minimum  - Amazon you had to have $10 bought off your registry, likely so people don't just create them willy nilly for the coupon.

(Also, amazon give you a baby gift box if you mark all the sections "complete"! I got a bottle, a thing of wipes, a baby toy, a sample of diapers, and two kinds of mini baby shampoo.)

@Hummingbird125 If that doesn't work, maybe check your cookies settings?
