  • Due Date/Actual Delivery Date: Due 3/3  Actual  2/12

Post Partum pains: still recovering from the c-section. Both mentally and physically. Lots of upper back pain that I'm working though.

Successes? LO is thriving outside and gaining weight so that crappy c-section after 30 hrs of labor paid off.

What are you doing at the moment? Laying on the couch watching LO and the dogs all get to take naps.

GTKY:  What was your first meal after birth?  I think it was pancakes the next morning. I don't remember the first 24-36 hrs after birth because of the anesthesia.
  • Due Date/Actual Delivery Date: Due date March 3rd, born February 20th.

Post Partum pains: now that it has been 10 days, besides anxiety (not baby related but still considered postpartum), I'm still constipated and my insides feel all weird likethey are slopping around Iin my abdomen.

Successes? Spencer is such a good baby- last night I fed him at 9, 1:30, and 5:30. Usually most days I'm up by 5:45 anyway for work so this doesn't phase me. BFing has been going well other than my oversupply is causing latching issues. But once i pump a tiny bit out (like 20 seconds) he is able to latch and we have a good exoerience.

What are you doing at the moment? Watching TV while baby is sleeping- waiting for my friend to deliver my GIRL SCOUT COOKIES!!!

GTKY:  What was your first meal after birth?  for lunch I was brought an open faced hot turkey/gravy sandwich and fries, vegetable soup, and fruit cocktail. I LOVE hospital food!!!

  • @cataleya82 try to hang in there honey. There's light at the end of the tunnel. Eventually all these crazy hormones wear off. I got a bad hit of it with my last pregnancy. Luckily this time is better. Talk to your doctor if it gets bad. My doctor offered me Valium to cope if I needed it. Mostly it just helped talking to a professional. You already know what's happening which is more than I did at the time, so you're already ahead of the curve. Plus this is your 3rd so you're an old pro. Good luck and hugs.

  • Due Date/Actual Delivery Date: 3/2/16 actual 2/14/16 (37.3 weeks)

Post Partum pains: csection recovery is going well. The first week sucks, but 3 weeks out from c section and mostly mild discomfort when I move funny or forget and lift/move without thinking about it. Otherwise ds2 is a wonderful easy going babe, but he is also reverse cycling (up every 15-1:30 all night) with ds1 at home during the day when ds2 does sleep, I am unable too. Needless to say I am exhausted!

Successes? Bfing has been so much easier this time around. It is such a relief.

What are you doing at the moment? Was hoping to nurse and go to bed, but ds2 is bright eyed and bushy tailed so I guess we are am staying up awhile.

GTKY:  What was your first meal after birth?  Dh brought me a bagel and coffee for breakfast (ds2 was born at 3 am).
  • Due Date/Actual Delivery Date: Due March 9th, delivered February 24th

Post Partum pains: Breastfeeding has been less than successful, we are exclusively pumping. Also my stitches are still quite painful, I can only walk so far and so fast at the moment.

Successes? See above, we may not be breastfeeding but I am so grateful that my daughter is getting breast milk somehow! Baby girl is also sleeping well, we get up two or three times a night together but we are back in bed quickly!

What are you doing at the moment? Up for the first late night feeding :)

GTKY:  What was your first meal after birth? Hospital food breakfast, nothing special. However, my second meal was Subway and broccoli soup, yum!

  • Due Date/Actual Delivery Date: 3/5/16/ actual 3/1/16 via scheduled C section 39+3

Post Partum pains: having a lot of trouble moving around but mostly have extremely painful breasts now that my milk has come in. Trying to keep nursing and hoping it gets better.

Successes? Made it through our first night @ home.

What are you doing at the moment? Staring at my newborn baby

GTKY:  What was your first meal after birth? Toast with vegetable soup. I was on a restricted hospital diet
  • Due Date/Actual Delivery Date: March 15th/ March 1st

Post Partum pains: No stitches but still some minor stinging when I pee. Tailbone and lower back pain, and feelings of pressure and abdominal soreness when I'm up too long.

Successes? Breastfeeding hasn't been easy so far (trouble with latching) but were still giving it our all and she's making lots of pee/poo diapers, so I consider that a success.

What are you doing at the moment? Holding a sleeping baby, typing with one hand lol.

GTKY:  What was your first meal after birth? Hospital food - a garden salad that was surprisingly good.

  • Due Date/Actual Delivery Date: due March 9, delivered March 4

Post Partum pains: had some initial problems passing large clots and was having a lot of cramping whole nursing, but feeling pretty good now. Sore and achy, but overall okay

Successes? Nursing is going well, happy to come home yesterday

What are you doing at the moment? Nursing and watching tv while my husband has the older two outside

GTKY:  What was your first meal after birth?  I ate a bunch of trail mix pretty soon after (he was born at 4:45 am) and then my husband got me a bagel and coffee from Panera later that morning. Yum!!

  • Due Date/ Actual Delivery Date:
Due March 9/ Actually born March 3

Post Partum pains: Typical cramping and vaginal pain controlled by Motrin and Tylenol the first 2 days. Much better by the time I went home. My milk came in yesterday and omg so much pain! I'm trying to express just a little here and there to help with engorgment but still in so much pain :(

Successes? Breastfeeding is going great and I'm feeling almost normal pain wise but still taking it slow.

What are you doing at the moment?  Fell asleep with LO on my chest. Woke up and opened my phone lol.

First meal? Cold turkey sandwich and cookies with juice and ginger ale. All they had at 1030pm. Still was good :)

  • Due Date/Actual Delivery Date: 3-9/3-3

Post Partum pains: tore a little and had to get stitches. It hurt to sit. Donut pillow made it more comfortable!

Successes? Baby was low risk for Jaundice. By day 5 though, he hadn't pooped since we'd left the hospital and he only had 2 wet diapers per day. At the pediatrician visit he had lost 11% of his birth weight. The doctor wanted to start formula supplementation to visually see him getting 2 ounces every feeding. I was devastated but determined. I started pumping to see how much I could get. I actually got 2 ounces on more than one occasion and always got 1-2 ounces every 3 hours. I supplemented the rest with formula. If he was still acting hungry I gave him the breast. I did this from day 5- Day 7. It worked! He started having regular pees and yellow seedy poops. On day 6 he had Jaundice levels rechecked and it was normal! His weight had increased from 7lb 2oz to 7lb 5 ounces. Today, day 8, I set the pump aside and we are EBF again. I have baby blues and the pump/formula was making it worse. Today I am feeling happy again and haven't had a cry all day. We have an appt on Tuesday with an LC to do the weight monitoring to see how much milk he gets at a feeding. I am carefully monitoring his pees and poops until then. I think my milk came in on day 5- pumping probably helped.

What are you doing at the moment? Laying on the bed with my little snuggle bug.

GTKY:  What was your first meal after birth?  A cheeseburger from Juicy's which I promptly threw up after getting up too quickly. The nurse was bringing me to the toilet after recovery and all of a sudden I had pressure in my face, ringing in my ears and tunnel vision. I didn't pass out but it made me sick.

  • @CalebsHabibiso glad to hear you're back to EBF like you want!  Just keep putting baby to breast, and everything will even out :) We didn't have our first poop until 1 week old (and boy was it a lot when he did lol).

    Due Date/Actual Delivery Date:

    March 10/March 5 via VBAC

    Post Partum pains:
3a tear.  Lots of pain in my bottom and discomfort as around my sutures at this stage in healing (padsicles help).  I had tons of swelling in my legs that has just improved.  But my biggest complaint is the sheer terror of going number two.  5 days post partum with a fleet enema is what it took.  I don't know if it's in my head and I'm just afraid to push.  Lots of tears shed over this particular battle.  Advice appreciated!

    Successes?
first post partum poop was a big milestone!

What are you doing at the moment?
waiting for more swaddles in the dryer.

GTKY:  What was your first meal after birth?

Cereal.  Nurse suggested I take it slow after all those hours on Magnesium.  I was diagnosed with pre eclampsia halfway through labor

  • Due Date/Actual Delivery Date: March 10/March 4

Post Partum pains: C-section incision is still pretty sore even a week later. Still walking a little funny from the pain at times.

Successes? Baby sleeps so well! We get good 4-5 hour stretches at night.

What are you doing at the moment? Snuggling next to my little lady.

GTKY:  What was your first meal after birth? The first thing I actually kept down was some fruit, I believe. My spinal meds made me really nauseous and it was hard to keep anything down for a while.

  • @bbrianax - the nurses told me to wake LO every 3 hours to feed. I asked when I could start letting him sleep at night and the lactation consultant said 2 weeks but the pedi said 4 weeks! Do you wake her more often to feed during the day and let her go at night? I would love to start getting some sleep.

Yep, pretty much. She eats pretty regularly throughout the day anyway and is pretty good at letting me know when she's hungry, so I figure an extra hour or two at night probably won't hurt her since she ate well during the day.

  • Due Date/Actual Delivery Date: March 4/March 3. I was induced due to hypertension.

Post Partum pains: Recovering from an episiotomy. It is a much easier recovery than the tear I had with DS1.

Successes? The entire delivery was so much better, but breastfeeding is going really well. DS2 is gaining well and has had no issues with latching. Night and day from my first baby.

What are you doing at the moment? Hanging out with DH and the little boys in the living room next to a roaring fire, while my teenage stepson and his girlfriend watch a movie in the family room. They're so cute.

GTKY: What was your first meal after birth? A bacon cheeseburger from the hospital's public cafe. It was awesome.
  • Due Date/Actual Delivery Date: March 17/March 13

Post Partum pains: I'm sore all down yonder and still getting dizzy and/or can't breathe well when I stand and walk.

Successes? Breastfeeding is going great; DD is a quick learner. Also, I have peed 3 times since delivery. (No more catheters!)

What are you doing at the moment? Watching MIL cuddle DD

GTKY:  What was your first meal after birth? Crackers and apple sauce officially, but this morning I had an egg casserole and biscuit from the cafeteria.
  • Due date / Actual delivery date:
    March 11th /March 13th.

Postpartum pains: well, the after birth pains are not fun. I definitely do not recall any of these the first time. And this makes nursing extra special right now. The stitching from a first degree tear isn't so bad at all compared to that.

Successes? Nursing seems to be off to a great start so far. He even did the whole breast crawl so that was cool to witness.

What are you doing at the moment? Nursing DS2. Waiting for 24 hour tests.

GTKY: I delivered a couple minutes before midnight and was brought a turkey sandwich with an apple and chips. Only ate half the sandwich and then some orange juice. Later had a slice of goat cheese with sliced carrot, cucumbers and celery my doula brought. I'm waiting to get home to have a proper celebration.

  • Due Date/Actual Delivery

    3/11 delivered 3/9

Post Partum Pains: Trying to remember not to overdue it with my csection incision which is hard. Baby blues have hit pretty hard as well but DH is being super supportive which is amazing. Also pretty disappointed that breastfeeding doesn't seem to be working out for us. My milk just hasn't really come in even 6 days post with pumping. Looks like we will probably be going the formula route.

Success: counting ourselves very lucky that baby is so good and sleeping in 3 hour stretches already.

What are you doing? Watching tv while DD takes a nap.

GTKY: first meal was an English muffin and strawberry yogurt.

  • @eivaska Hugs momma!
  • Due Date/Actual Delivery Date: March 21/March 3 (37 + 3)

Post Partum pains: baby came so fast that I tore and needed stitches which are just now starting not to hurt. My boobs are huge and super full all the time, especially the left one. Nipples hurt. Bleeding is super light, though, so that's great.

Successes? We are successfully breastfeeding! And that's about it. I suck at diapering boys, so we leak through a onsie at least once a day, he doesn't sleep more than 2 hours at night, and he hates being cold, and of course as soon as he was born it got cold again...

What are you doing at the moment? Snuggling my sweet little boy in my bed because he decided he won't sleep without being held this morning

GTKY:  What was your first meal after birth? DH went to the cafeteria and brought me back a French dip sandwich. It was like 11:30 at night when I finally got to eat and that was basically the best sandwich I've ever had. And then I drank my weight in Apple juice because my nurse was awesome.
  • @2goofykids No worries.  I'm on boy #2 and we still manage to leak a little.  Pampers leak worse I've found (for boys), so we get Huggies instead (plus no smell with Huggies).

  • Due Date/Actual Delivery Date: due date March 12. Actual delivery date March 17.

Post Partum pains: Healing from an emergency cesarean.  Making sure I move around even though it hurts.

Successes? We got the hang of breast feeding.

What are you doing at the moment? Watching tv in the hodpital room while enjoying some skin to  skin bonding.

GTKY:  What was your first meal after birth?  Jimmy Johns veggie sandwich.
  • Due Date/Actual Delivery Date: March 31/March 14

Postpartum Pains: Super swollen feet, pain from labor/stitches, though there were only two, and really bad lower back pain.

Successes: We seem to have breastfeeding down, and my milk has come in. Also, I was finally able to have a bowel movement and didn't feel like I was going to die.

What at are you doing at the moment? Watching a movie with my DH for his birthday while my sweet baby boy naps on my chest.

GTKY: What was your first meal after birth? I delivered in the middle of the night so I didn't have many options. I got a bag lunch with a turkey sandwich, bag of chips, apple and juice. It was one of the best things I've ever eaten.

Due Date/Actual Delivery Date: March 16th, delivered March 14th

Postpartum Pains: Super painful when I try peeing from the stitches et al (FTMs get ready for that !!!!)

Successes: breastfeeding is down, and my milk has come in after 3 days which is a huge relief as they'd given me SNS to supplement and she wasn't liking it!

What at are you doing at the moment? 3:19am, feeding after changing a diaper after feeding and need to change her diaper again after this feeding.. She woke me at 2:30ish after being down since 1am.

GTKY: What was your first meal after birth? I dont even remember ! But I did eat a lot of grapes and watermelon at the hospital,
  • How do you put your ️baby to sleep after nighttime feeds? I dim the lights and give her time at each Breast until she falls asleep on me.  I wait a few mins and then try to transfer her anywhere- crib, rock and play, bouncy seat.  She won't stay asleep in them! Only wants to sleep on me!
  • @kate5485 the same is happening here. Mine is about 5.5 days old at this point.  Try waiting about 20-25 minutes after she falls asleep on the breast to transfer her. Infants have very long REM cycles before they hit deep sleep. Unfortunately their deep sleep cycle isn't any longer till they go back to REM. Try putting her on her back more during the day to get her used to it. I'm basically bed sharing most of the night to get any shut eye. And occasionally he sleeps on me. Then close to the morning I'll transfer him after last feed like I just described.  Also for about 6 weeks expecting any routine is going to be tough. But you can just keep trying. Would love to hear what others are experiencing. I'm also not swaddling this time....just an FYI. Swaddling may help but I feel it currently impacts his nursing as he isn't comfortable in laid back position with a swaddle.
    imageimage

  • @kate8485 i had this with my lo the first week or so, my mw recommended waiting 20 mins for her to fall into the deeper sleep. It seemed to work and now that she is 3.5 weeks she is used to her bassinet enough that i can put her down pretty much straight away and 70% of the time she stays there. She always 'wakes' after 10 or so mins but i find if i just leave her after a min or 2 of slight grizzling she settles herself. Sometimes it doesnt but apparently thats the way with a newborn. @mshukh we swaddle, it helps our lo stay asleep i think.  i dont have her wrapped for feeds, but i wrap her before putting her to bed. The few times i have put her down without wrapping, she wakes up at 10 mins (normal) but wont settle.
