Clothes don't fit- what are you wearing?

This is my second pregnancy (1st one ended in a loss at 11.5 weeks) and I have been struggling a lot with bloating in my stomach. My boobs and stomach are noticeably bigger than they were pre-pregnancy, which didn't happen with my last one until about 11 weeks. I don't know if it's because my loss was fairly recent and my uterus didn't shrink down to normal, or if I'm just super bloated, but my clothes just don't fit right.

I am wondering if anyone else is having this problem and how you're handling it. I have some tops and dresses that are a little bigger so I've been wearing those with leggings or jeggings. I am considering buying some maternity clothes but feel like it's still really early. And I know that I will grow a lot, so I'm hesitant to buy clothes for my current size. But I also figure that postpartum for at least a few months I'll probably be around this size, so maybe buying some clothes makes sense. Anyway, I'm curious to hear what others are doing and any tips people have.

If I have to wear pants I can still loop a hair elastic  through my button hole and then over the button to gain me a touch of room. Otherwise I've been i  yoga pants or skirts with elastic  waists.

Honestly  if you're really uncomfortable  in your clothes I would  personally buy 1 or 2 maternity  pieces that you can wear to work or out for when you need to look well dressed. Also you can get bands of stretchy fabric (forget  what they're  called) that you can use to cover you stomach and the top of your pants  to hide that they're  undone.

For shirts, I'd buy  maternity  shirts. A lot of one's I bought also work well in everyday, they're  just a bit longer, which I tend to like.

  • At home either my pajamas or FI sweatpants. Out and about, I use the hair tie trick for my jeans or wear skirts and leggings. But never leggings as pants. BIG NO NO
  • I bought some maternity pants and it was the best decision ever. They are so much more comfy for work, then I just do sweats at home.
  • I have one pair of maternity jeans, a pair of yoga pants and a pair of leggings for leaving the house. I'll also do maxi skirts occasionally Tops are mostly just strechy fabric but I have put on one or two maternity shirts that look like regular tops. At home it's all about the comfort of yoga pants and pjs.

  • The rubber band trick was working well but scared me with all the movement so I invested ($5) in a stronger option plus a Bellaband.

  • For my jeans I wear those belly covers.  Don't need to buckle my jeans and it helps keep them on.  Target I know carry's them.  Its just like wearing a tank but it is for your pants.
  • I got the bellabands for my work pants since I could not do the hair tie trick due to the hook and eye on dress pants. So far I am liking them, yea they let your stomach have room so they can kind of make the bloat look worse but just pair with a loose fitting top or cardigan and no one will know. Other than this, all weekend and after work I am just in sweats or pajamas! I can't wait till a couple more weeks to be ready to make it public bc I won't have to worry about hiding it then!

  • I'm wearing my yoga pants.  I mainly wore them before getting pregnant because they're so comfie, but no I feel like I have to.  I'm like you and trying to avoid buying maternity clothes just yet, but even my yoga pants are getting a bit uncomfortable now.

I'm so glad it's not just me! I've been thinking i was going crazy because even my 'old man' work pants are snug and getting uncomfortable. I ordered a few bellabands so once those arrive i'll try them out and see how they are. I also plan on getting a lot of comfy/nice looking dresses that i can pull of at work. The less i have to wear any pants at all, the better.

  • I am only 8w and its my first pregnancy but I have no shame... I bought maternity jeans.  They are black and stretchy and I can basically wear them every day to work.  They are a godsend.  Best decision ever.  just ordered them in blue.  I honestly don't see myself eating regular jeans ever again in my life lol
  • I just bought the tummy sleeves from Motherhood Maternity in white and black.  The bloat is starting to get to me, and I have a few more months left of wearing pants.  Once May hits its nothing but maxi skirts and dresses until I go into labor though.
  • I've been living in maxi or otherwise stretchy skirts and leggings/tunics. :)

  • I'm still doing jeans with a Target bellaband, and the hair-tie button holder sometimes thanks to bloating, and shirts/sweaters. Half the buttons are undone under the sweater, but nobody can see that. I wish it would warm up around here though, because all I want is to put on a dress/leggings combo and be done with it. By the time it's warm enough I'll probably be showing for real.

  • Still wearing my regular work pants + jeans..... but depending on time of day and size of bloat, they are sometimes unbuttoned.

SO saw me struggling with the buttons this morning and said "you need to get those pregnancy band things... because by the time they arrive, you'll need them."  Wow, SO... thanks for making me feel beautiful.
  • Maxi skirts and dresses and all the leggings!! I don't care what anyone says, I am in love with my leggings!

Yoga pants! I live in them! (I also work from home) I just swung by Old Navy and picked up some cheapie jeans that were a little bigger so I can look like a human in public
  • I finally gave in and got a few pair of maternity jeans. I felt like my other pants were cutting into me already.

Yes! I LOVE my leggings. I only have 3 pairs and I'm going to need to remedy that for this summer. I will be living in leggings and various dresses and skirts and long tunic shirts. I make sure they are dark in color so you can't see through them, but other than that I don't actually care. They are just too comfy!

I have the Bellaband and it's awesome bit I still rather wear leggings ....I run a children's center so flexibility is a plus and  I tend to sit cross-legged in my office chair but I just bought a few loose tops

  • No one else has a work uniform to contend with? I'm so jealous of everyone that can wear jeans/yoga pants to work!! So far I've been sausaging into my dress pants and polos. I won't  need maternity pants for a while, but I might start shopping now because mat dress pants with pockets are like impossible to find (or were the last time I was pregnant). I also need to look up this Bellaband contraption...

You do!  Bellaband is magical.  Just ends up looking like you're wearing a tank top under your shirt.  keeps unbuttoned pants up or in my case, pants buttoned with a now hidden extender.  You should try those to extend your uniform wearing time.  Dirt cheap on Amazon.

  • @Kaessi I got JBrand ones from Shopbop!  They are very low and have some elastic kinda like where the hip pockets would be, which you can't see as long as I'm not wearing a very short top.  Wearing them now :)
In full disclosure, I had gained about 5-6 lbs before my getting my BFP so my clothes were getting snug anyway...
  • The best piece of advice I received my last pregnancy was to have no shame moving into maternity pants when your clothes start not to fit.  No need to torture yourself.  For me, I find the belly bands annoying and I always have to adjust them.  There is nothing like the comfort of maternity pants, especially for fitted work pants.  Then you can always pair them with a flowy shirt, fun jewelry or a jacket to take eyes off your belly region.

@Kaessi You made my day by not only using "piqued" correctly, but also spelling it correctly. Thank you!
  • Leggings everywhere.  I used my belly band last week and it was such a hassle, pants kept falling down, band wouldn't stay up. So I'm sticking with leggings till I bust out the maternity clothes. That and the hair tie through the hole trick.  Major perk of wearing scrubs to work is that they're comfy!
  • Dresses or tunics with leggings. Maxi skirts or dresses. This stage is so awkward. And, FTR, I had to buy (or should have bought) maternity clothes in a couple of different sizes to get me through the end of the last tri with my previous pregnancies. So I don't think there's any harm in buying your first set of maternity clothes at this stage.

Aww thanks @jdmrs! I feel like I just got a good grade on my English paper & feel so proud! Hehe. I think we're gonna be friends!!
  • I have broken out the maternity pants already but I do still have some pants that are working ok. I need to buy some more dresses so that I can wear those more often!

  • I'm doing the hair tie thing and Bella band currently. But i'm about to break down and order a boatload of stuff from walmart... I had no clue they had maternity and it's cheap so I get a lot. I really wish this was a for real bump I'm dealing with and not bloat!! C'mon bump, C'MON!
  • I went consignment/resale shopping this weekend - so fun! I got a bunch of very reasonably priced "regular" shirts that are loose & flowy that should get me through the next few months (at least until I announce at work). I also discovered a brand I had never seen before at Target called Knox Rose. Super cute, flowy/lacy type shirts that are sized a little bigger than average. Definitely recommend!
  • Maternity pants are everything! Seriously... I just bought some this weekend thanks to my friend insisting on it. Best.Decision.Ever. I no longer feel like I want to hurl every time I sit down in my regular jeans! Everyone should do it... there's no shame in my game lol
  • I don't  want to wear pants, leggings, tights, or anything. I don't  even want to wear panties. Or clothes  period. I still fit into everything, but it just feels like pressure on my tummy and I hate all clothing right now. I wish it were socially acceptable to just be naked.
  • My last pregnancy, a friend gifted me a bunch of work clothes that were a size bigger than my normal clothes. Those worked for me for months, and it was nice to have them when I came back from maternity leave. I didn't want to ever wear maternity pants again, lol.

  • I busted out my old gap maternity jeans this weekend and I'm convinced I need to go buy more. I forgot how comfortable maternity pants are! Why don't all pants have elastic waist bands?!

  • I don't know how I will ever go back to regular pants from maternity pants. Of course, no pants is better, but I'll settle for a stretchy waist when I have to get fancy  ;)
  • Got a  question for you ladies who wear scrubs. Where do you recommend buying scrubs that are relatively cheap, but decent quality. Don't want to drop a fortune on new scrubs that I may grow out of in a few short months. I've checked the local goodwill, didn't find much of anything.
