2nd Trimester

Yeast infection treatment

Have any of you had the pleasure of a yeast infection during pregnancy?  I have the symptoms and called my doctor's office they recommended just getting over the counter Monistat 7, which I did and symptoms are better after three doses, but not gone just yet.  I have read that it can take 10-14 days to clear up.  Did anyone who had a yeast infection have to treat for more than 7 days to completely resolve the infection?  I am going to call the OB on Monday when they are open again, but I'm curious what other's have experienced.  Thanks everyone!

Re: Yeast infection treatment

  • I was told to do the 3 day but I didn't clear up so did an extra day. Mine was caused by antibiotics for a UTI. I've heard it's not uncommon to need more time for yeast infections.

  • Although the one day pill or 3 day supp seems like it is a great, quick option, typically the 7 day option works better. It could take longer, I suppose, but shorter isn't better with yeast treatments. Also, try eating lots of kefir, plain yogurt, and a probiotic.

  • I started taking a probiotic and if you get a yeast infection, ask for an appointment with your doctor. Antibotics work faster than Monistat and being itchy is no fun! If you get chronic ones, ask your doc to prescribe a few, so you don't have to go in each time.
  • The one day pill worked the best for me. It was gone within 24 hours and all I did was swallow a tiny pill.

I have had more than one UTI and yeast infection during both my pregnancies!

  • If you bought the 7 day, why are you looking to stop after 3 days? The 7 day treatment is the most effective, you should complete your dosage.

  • I got one while taking some antibiotics and my OB prescribed a one-day treatment for it since it was really bad...I can't remember what it was called now.

If you bought Monistat 7, you need to use it for 7 days, even if your symptoms are gone before then.

  • Definitely do the full 7 days. Doctors typically recommend the 7 day treatment because it presents the lowest risk but other treatments can be recommended if the 7 day treatment doesn't do the trick. And probiotic supplements can help a lot.
