DS1 came the day after his due date. I had an appt with the Dr on my due date and I was not dialated or effaced. But he attempted to "strip my membranes" but didn't think it would do anything since I was not showing any signs. Contractions started that night and he was born the next afternoon.
DS1 = My hips started to spread at 37+5, contractions started at 37+6, but I thought it was gas...At exactly 38 weeks, water broke at 5am (over the toilet), DS1 makes his appearance at 8:45am
I'm really hoping this one stays in until at least 41 weeks because I have too much to do at work between now and my due date. Of course, that means she'll come early.

DS2 due May
I've never heard of this or anyone talking about this as a sign of impending birth. Can you elaborate?
DD#1 was induced 1 day before EDD after measuring almost 10lbs on ultrasound a few days before. My belly was huge and DH is a big guy and was a big baby and I'm not. She ended up being 8 lbs 1 oz winter
DD#2 was induced at 39 weeks. She was laying transverse and I was going to try for a version to flip her before heading for a c-section. She flipped head down on her own right before and decided to get her out so she couldn't flip transverse again. Transverse and labor don't mix very well.
39 weeks...I was dilated between 2 and 3 cm for about 2 wks and still actively teaching...talk about miserable. Water broke at 1 in the afternoon....she didn't come until 4:55 am though. long day!
