Baby Names

Name Hunt Update!

It looks like we've decided what our little lady will be named!

After thinking about it in depth for many weeks now, this is the name that ultimately stuck with us most. The help of this wonderful community has been great for getting a neutral perspective on our options, giving us food for thought and narrowing down our lists. Now that we've pretty much finalized our pick, we'd love to update you all :)

We made this decision because we feel it reflects her Italian heritage, works well in English & Italian (the languages spoken in the countries she'll be raised in), and for the fact that it subtly honors two people who were very dear to us. It is a bit on the unusual side in both the US and Italy, so obviously it has sparked a few critiques online. However, the more we thought about it, the more we fell in love with it. Ultimately, we went with our gut and – barring any last-minute changes of heart – our daughter's name will be...

Lorenza Justice

We're not going to set a nickname in stone, as we'd rather wait to meet her and see what feels natural, but so far we've taken to calling her Lola for short.

I'm really curious to read what you all think and what kind of person you envision when seeing that name! What mental picture does it invoke for you?

Thanks to everyone for your help!

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE! I've been wondering if you decided. I think it matches your criteria perfectly and think of a strong woman with that name and obviously with Italian features would be the picture in my head.   I think waiting on a nn is the best while I do like both Lola and Lo.  Congrats on deciding on a great name!

Thank you so much :) your reply put an instant smile on my face.
And thanks for the feedback you've been giving on my past threads as well!! We were a bit torn for a long while, but despite the overwhelming positivity Esmeralda got, it simply didn't sit right with us for some reason and Lorenza won out in the end by far. Took us a bit to trust our instincts and get here, but it certainly feels right!

  • Great! Love Lorenza NN Lola!
  • I love it. In my head the (grown-up!) Lorenza Justice is a smart, sexy, sophisticated Italian lady who probably rides a scooter and is incredible at verbal sparring.

Ha, I love this image! If she takes after me in any way, the verbal sparring thing could definitely happen ;)

Wow, that's a good association if it means setting up our daughter for success. I'm liking the direction this is taking! All images I would sign up for so far ;)

  • Lukewarm on Justice but not at all side-eyeing it. Kind of sounds like an Ayn Rand heroine.

Lorenza? ADORBS. Didn't know that name before now.

Both names together sound really badass. I think you've got a good name there.
