Re: Weekly Check-In 2/19

  • Cracking up @carrieandRoy!! Doesn't want baby waking him up?!! Men have a hard time until the baby is here, he'll learn VERY quickly;)

  • @emgee27 nothing planned at the moment, but still on the lookout. BF baby poop is pretty harmless, so I may just end up keeping things simple and running the washcloths under the faucet.

@jilligan14 You look great! love the pink top!

@CarrieandRoy Oh boy, your DH will learn very quickly once that baby is here!
  • Haha. Another "oh, Roy!" Moment. ;) he'll figure things out eventually. In the meantime, I hope you got clothes that work for you and that you eventually get to touch that guest room and start making it into a nursery you love!

My DH doesn't have much desire to talk through details of clothes, gear, etc. but when I tell him I need something, he typically just green lights it. Hopefully your DH can get there too. And soon!
  • @jilligan14 I definitely lost some weight around the same time despite feeling well and eating everything under the sun. I think most of what I "gained" during first trimester was bloat, and when that started going away at the beginning of 2nd tri my weight leveled off back to around my pre-pregnancy weight. Since then it's been a very consistent gain.

@CarrieandRoy My H has also required a bit of a reality check about the needs of newborns. "Yes, dear, he will be sleeping in our bedroom." "No, we can't let the cats sleep with him in the bassinet." "No, he won't sleep 8 hours at a time." "Yes, he will need a diaper change more than once or twice a day." etc.

  • "Yes, he will need a diaper change more than once or twice a day." etc.
Haha! Yes! I gave DH a little backpack with a changing pad in it for Christmas before our LO was born. He said, "oh, well, I won't need that! He'll be potty trained before we head out and about alone!" I asked him when he thought baby would be potty trained. His answer "well before 1."

    Hahahahahahahahahaha.
  • Oh the clueless clueless men we love! I've been telling my DH for years that he will be on every diaper change and through the night whatever needs doing, so I hope he's at least a little bit prepared.
@emsmama15 will you put your list in a new post and all the mamas can add to it as we go!
    @jilligan14 adorable!!!

I hope you guys have been suffering through cold season get better soon! Sorry you've been sick!
  • I thought my nausea was all gone. And then I ate baby bell peppers with lunch. They are all I can taste--4 hours later--and I just feel gross. Try to be healthy and this is what I get! Sheesh!
  • @Sporty1216 it's crazy how the healthy stuff makes us the sickest.

DH definitely doesn't want the baby in our room, so I'm going to sleep in the baby's room for a while. That makes me sad, but it's better than living with a grumpy husband. I'm hoping I can move back to our room after a few months at the most and use a baby monitor. But until I'm actually doing it, I don't really know what to expect.

  • @CarrieandRoy --I think your sleep plan sounds good. We kept baby in the room with us for the first 6 weeks and then moved him to his own room, largely because DH doesn't do well on little sleep. I will say, though, that as time has gone on, he has gotten more able to sleep through noise (ear plugs help) and also more able to function well with interrupts sleep. LO ends up in our bed more nights than he doesn't now and our plan for this new baby is to keep him/her in our room for several months. This is a HUGE change from where DH was with #1. All of which to say, I think your plan is good. But don't lose hope that maybe he'll also do some adjusting and your plan can be flexible. It's so much change all at once. The primary thing I say to any FTM now is "be flexible and be kind to yourself". So much can change and, in this case, I hope your DH can be flexible too. ;)
  • He wakes up easily and can't fall back to sleep. He even complains that I roll over too much during the night! So I know he wouldn't handle that well. But I'm totally flexible. Everything from pregnancy to delivery to raising a baby is a big unknown for me, so I'll be figuring everything out as I go.

  • I think you've got a great attitude and a great handle on things, @CarrieandRoy ! I'm excited for you.

And, honestly, if the nursery was big enough for us to have a twin bed in it, I'd be in there sleeping often. As it is, on really rough nights, I sleep on a mat on the floor with LO so DH can get some sleep. No sense in everyone being up!
  • @CarrieandRoy your DH may feel differently once the baby arrives but your "go with the flow" attitude is the way to go. I can tell you my DH is a very heavy sleeper and before DS arrived was saying he was going to sleep in our guest room. Well that never happened and the heavy sleeper would get up and check on DS a ton of times a night to make sure he was still breathing. In fact, when I was ready for DS to start sleeping in his room DH said no. Finally when DS was 6 months old I put my foot down and told him no more. I would catch him sneaking to DS's room all the time. Point is, they can say whatever now but when that baby arrives, all bets are off.
  • Aww, that's cute @Goldsgirl9 ! I'm hoping that even if I end up sleeping in the baby's room, DH will join us sometimes. He usually gets up at 5am, but sometimes he wakes up even earlier and can't fall asleep, so he goes downstairs and watches tv. Maybe he'll come see us instead.

  • My kiddo is actually sleeping. On his own. In his crib. My DH is sleeping. Why am I not sleeping?! I keep startling awake and just can't get comfy. Uuuuuuh.
  • How far along are you? I am 11 wks 2 days, scared as hell, as I don't have any major symptoms.

how am I feeling: I am nervous as hell, have had 1 miscarriage in 2008, and 3 failed ivf's, so I just want this pregnancy to be normal and the baby obviously to be healthy...

rave/rants questions: I have this slight pain in the right side of my lower abdomen, is it anything to worry about
next appointment and round of tests only late next week....is there any equipment  to-be-mum's can buy to somehow know the baby is okay

@krupali78 -- I think several of us who are at about the same point have noticed out symptoms tapering off. I think that often happens because the placenta is taking over. And, I'm not a doctor, but I did have some pinching pain on my lower left side and they identified that I had a corpus luteum cyst left over from ovulation. They said that could cause some pain. Could that be what is happening for you?

The he wait between appointments is so long! My next one is on Monday and it can't come soon enough. I know some mamas buy home dopplers to try to find the heartbeat between appointments. I think I would make myself crazy with one, so I just make myself wait, but I know a lot of women find comfort by using them.

ETA: I know my doctor will let patients come in for a quick Doppler check if we are concerned. Maybe your office will do the same?
  • @krupali78 I'm sorry you're feeling scared. I also understand completely - I think all of us do to some degree. I had very few symptoms to begin with during first trimester and by around 11-12 weeks they had gone away. It's challenging because your body doesn't give you that many reminders that you're pregnant from about 11 weeks through when you can start to feel movement, which varies a lot but is usually like 18 weeks. I'm glad you have an appointment with your doctor next week. Like @Sporty1216 said 11-12 weeks they should be able to pick up a fetal heart rate with a Doppler - if your doctor can do this (I don't know if it's routine in India) then it should provide you with some reassurance. You can always call to ask them if you don't want to wait until next week! Also, the pain in your side sounds a lot like round ligament pain - which is caused by stretching of the ligament that supports your uterus as it grows. It's really common at your stage in pregnancy and I definitely experienced it!

  • @krupali78 my symptoms tapered off around 11-12 weeks too. Being scared sucks but I wanted to echo what other PPs have said. Hang in there!
  • @krupali78 - just wanted to add in that I have my NT scan tomorrow and I'm scared to death they won't find heartbeats because I've had barely any symptoms at all, but NONE now (besides heartburn, but that's intermittent).  I just can't wait till I can feel the babies.  I think your feelings are very natural.  Hang in there!!  Good luck!!

  • @emsmama15 right there with you! My NT scan this afternoon and I'm terrified. Wishing you all the good luck! I hope we both get good news.
  • Let us know how things go, @emsmama15 and @createillumination ! The nerves are awful. We're not doing any of the genetic screenings, but I am so anxious for Monday to get here, because I know she'll let me hear the heartbeat on the Doppler. I can't wait (and am doing my best to keep what ifs at bay and trust that I have no reason to believe that everything isn't just dandy in there, but it is hard).
  • Good luck with your scans @createillumination and @emsmama15 ! I'll be thinking of you both!

I was nervous for my NT scan too, but it was also my first ultrasound and it was sooooooooooo sweet. Remembering it makes me tear up a little. That moment, seeing with my own eyes that there was actually a tiny little human inside me is when it all suddenly became real to me. And they really look like babies at that stage too! Not just little blobs in sacs.

  • Thanks everyone!!  I'm really looking forward to it because I know they'll look like babies in this scan instead of little blobs or tadpoles.  :)  But, I just can't shake the weird feeling - I know it's because I just don't feel pregnant.  Eeek!!  I'm staying mostly calm!
