Appointments thread

Lets talk about appointments!  I know they're mostly weight checks and dopplers, but how did it go?

I had one today. I'm 15w4d. Everything checked out good. I've been having bad headaches (I'm a migraine sufferer and can't take my imitrex) so my doctor cracked my back. Thinks it might help. I hope so! Baby's heart rate was 141. We scheduled my anatomy scan and it isn't until March 25!!!! I will be 20w5d then but at the first ultrasound baby was measuring four days ahead, but they didn't change my due date. So I feel like I'll be more like over 21 weeks at the anatomy scan. The suspense is killing me!!!!! FX LO cooperates and we find out the sex. Has anyone else had their anatomy scan scheduled so late?! I guess most importantly there will be more to see to make sure baby is doing okay.

  • @ReadyForaB I think mine was around then last pregnancy, haven't scheduled yet for this one.

i had my appointment today, I'm 13 weeks 4 days. Not too exciting. I got to hear how much I've gained and I got to hear the heartbeat. It was in the 140's. I was very so relieved to hear it, not sure why I've been so anxious.
  • I had my monthly appointment on Friday, it went well but I peed in a cup and realized I haven't received the results yet in my online patient portal. I think it's to check for UTI, etc so I'm going to call for results tomorrow. It was great to hear the heartbeat at the appointment, so reassuring!

My next appointment is for the 2nd NT blood draw on the 25th. My anatomy scan and next monthly appointment are both scheduled for March 17.

  • Next appt is March 7th. I do have to do bloodwork on Monday. I can't wait for our next appt.

  • I had my first face to face appointment last Friday. The baby really scared us as the doctor couldn't find the heart beat with the doppler. I have never had that happen at a 12 week appointment before. (I was a little over 12 weeks this time). She immediately got me in for an ultrasound and everything turned out to be fine. Baby's hb was 161 and it was moving around like crazy. I got a bunch of pics too!
  • I had my appointment on Wednesday - heard the heartbeat; it was in the 140s.  My midwife just has us self-report weight, so that's nice.  No weird stress about differences between my scale and theirs.  Scheduled my anatomy scan today for March 30.  SO EXCITED for that one.  I should have my NT scan results (preliminary) at my next appointment.

My next one is March 9th. Had my NT scan yesterday and loved seeing him. Baby was measuring a week big and everything looked good. The next one is just my monthly check-in. I am not excited about the weigh-in as I'm pretty sure I've packed on a solid few pounds in the last few weeks. I haven't weighed myself at home to keep track. But, I am so excited to get to hear his sweet heartbeat again.

My next appointment is the 26th. Just another check up. I can't wait to hear the heart beat again! And I get to schedule our 20 week ultrasound at that point (I'll be 17w2d at the appointment).

I had my second yesterday! I had my NIPT, so that meant I got to do an ultrasound. The baby looks so different than just 3 weeks ago when I had my first one! It even had one arm up at the beginning like it was waving. Because of the way it was positioned, I couldn't even take a guess at the gender if I wanted to, so our baby remains an "it" for now. Also the initial measurements for the nuchal translucency and the nasal bone looked good. As you all know I won't get the results of the blood tests back for 7-10 business days, but I feel good.
  • Went on Monday and had my second integrated cerebellum or something like that. So I should have the results this afternoon or Monday. Anxious about that! We found out baby looks like BOY! And we will confirm at 20 weeks but I'm going Saturday to do an ultrasound and a private company because we are buying a house and want to have the room painted ASAP. Hoping they can confirm boy tomorrow!
Next app in 4 weeks and doing an anatomy scan, nervous but excited to see our little guy again!
  • Went in for my regular follow up yesterday at 17 wks. We got to see our Peanut moving around and saw the heart beating (tiny flickers). Doc said we didn't need to hear it based on what he saw. Gained 5 lbs since my last appt which was a month ago! We couldn't tell w the doc's u/s machine so we'll wait another 3 weeks til our anatomy scan. Need to go in for blood work to do 2nd trimester genetics testing sometime next week!
  • @AliKay20 maybe that means girl!!! With my daughter they couldn't see that early and so I went to a private co who did gender reveal and had time to really find what they were looking for!
  • I did think that! Haha we'll see. All I could really see was the baby's head and everything else sort of faded in and out. As much as the suspense is growing by the minute, I'm enjoying the guessing game I play by myself. One morning I'm all, "Hi Peanut, are you a boyyyy?" And other days, I'm all, "I think you're a girl, Peanut." Hahaha

Hahaha! I hate the not knowing, I have to figure out what this baby is and then name it! So that I can use the baby's name in conversation! That is very exciting though and good for you just enjoying each moment! I wish I was better at that, I'm an anxious person. And always on a need to know basis!
  • I had my 3rd appointment today at 13 weeks. They seem to want to see me every 3 weeks here. (I live abroad)

They did an anatomy scan today and everything looked good. The ultrasound doctor said her guess was that it was a girl. I went back and spoke with my original doctor and she had written "girl" last time in her files so I thought that was cool.

She offered the genetic testing and we decided to do it so I'll be going back March 12 to get those results and also confirm the sex. Can't wait!
  • Had my 12w appointment on Friday and everything looked good. Baby's heartbeat was in the 150's and they drew my blood for the NIPT. Now we're just waiting on results. I go back at 16w2d for another appointment with the midwife. Then my next ultrasound will be at 20w! I'm just glad to be out of the 1st trimester soon!
  • Had my 16 week appt yesterday, and everything looks good! I've only gained 5 lbs total so far, and hb was 160! My nurse also did a bedside ultrasound since she had extra time, and she couldn't find any boy parts, but she wouldn't confirm girl. Well find out for sure March 18 (hopefully) at the anatomy scan. Then I'll have my 20 week appt the following week when I will actually be 21 weeks. They would not schedule the scan before the 20 week mark. I was bummed, but I want them to see everything they want to see, so trying to remind myself to just be patient! Easier said than done
  • I had an appointment today, and it took my OB forEVer to find baby's heartbeat. (She hadn't been able to find it at all at my 10 week appointment but US confirmed everything was fine.) Finally heard it for about 4 seconds, but not long enough to get a heart rate. Doc did confirm she could definitely hear movement, so nothing to worry about and baby is probably just hanging out at the back of the uterus. Made me nervous, though! This kid is going to give us a run for our money!

  • I'm 15w2d and I go tomorrow for another ultrasound, I'm pretty sure it's because I'm 35 and just on the edge of being considered High Risk for that reason only. My OB didn't actually tell me that, but I know I didn't have the extra US with my last pregnancy. (almost 7 years ago) So I'm not sure if they have just changed procedure, or what. I have to actually go to the Perinatologist for this one. I'm excited to see our little peanut again, and hopefully get a clearer pic than what we got at 12 weeks from the OB. :) Next regular appointment is March 3rd. I'll be 16W5D. I invested in a Fetal Doppler to listen to the hb at home, and it has been a god send for my sanity!

I have my first monthly appointment on Friday. My OBGYN does Centering groups based on birth month so I'm going to give that a try... looking forward to it!
  • Last appointment was for the NT scan, the technician said that all looked good from what she could see. My next appointment with the OB is the first week of March, excited to see the LO again!

  • Got the results of my NIPT back and they were normal! I was so surprised to hear because my appointment was on Thursday, it's only been 3 business days!
  • @ramoseecology the urine check is just for checking hydration and later in pregnancy they'll pay attention to the protein in your urine too.  I don't think they would post results unless there was an issue.
  • Had my 2nd blood draw for genetics but didn't find out any results from the 1st because we couldn't get a measurement from the NT scan, so hopefully I'll find out those results soon.  Had my 17-week checkup immediately after and everything went well!  My SIL gave us a scare this morning thinking her 18 m/o (who we just spent the entire weekend with) might have Fifths disease, so we gave my OB a heads-up.  Turns out it's probably just dry skin but I'm thankful that she took him to the doctor and got it checked out.

  • Had my 15 week appointment today! Baby's HB was perfect and they scheduled the anatomy scan for a month from now! I cannot wait to find out what we are having. My mom decided she wants to fly in a throw a Gender Reveal party for us. Super sweet of her. I just wish it were here already!

  • I had my US today and they said baby is measuring right on at 15w3d and kept my Due date right where my LMP indicates it should be. They also told us that everything looks great, the heartrate was 161, and that they are pretty sure it's a boy! They did confirm that I am at slightly higher risk, due to my age, but there are no other indicators that there will be any problems, and we scheduled our 20 week scan. We will be waiting till then to confirm baby's sex. We go back to the OB next.
  • @amccul20 they post all lab results on the online patient portal (the numbers and the ranges the should be). I called them and the results weren't there since they hadn't placed the standing order with the lab yet (even though they gave me the pee cup and order slip). Annoying but I'm going there tomorrow anyway so I'm going to ask to do it again then.

  • Just left the doctor for our 15 wk apt! Heard a strong and steady HB at 155  LOVE getting to hear the little one. Scheduled our anatomy scan for end of March. I can't wait!!
  • We had our 16 week appointment yesterday and it went well. The Midwife brought in models of the baby, which show us exactly what a 16 week fetus looks like, how heavy, size, etc. and compared it to the 12 week one, and then showed us the 20 week model so we could get an idea of how much baby grows between each appointment. That was crazy and really cool! Our little guy kept moving when she was trying to get a heartbeat, but she did finally get one in the 150s.
She did advise me that I should start eating more meat (I've never been a big meat-eater) because I'll need the protein. I tried explaining that I eat lots of eggs, greek yogurt, etc. to get my protein but she still said I should try to eat more meat too. So that sucks!

@1faceinacrowd I keep getting that lecture too. I was a vegetarian prior to pregnancy, so it's been a hard adjustment. I've been eating a lot of things where the meat is drowned in sauce, disintegrated in soups or shredded as a filling for something.

I've been buying lots of pre-cubed stew meat, or pre-cooked rotisserie or pre-cooked chicken (frozen, made by perdue) and just adding it to things I would normally eat. So if I make pasta primavera, I'll throw pre-cooked chicken bits in. If I made enchiladas, I shred rotisserie chicken into it.... the challenge has been since I don't like it, I pick it out like a 5 year old half the time, without paying attention to it, until my DH catches me and scolds.

@readyforab My doctor did say if it was bad enough, the imitrex is better for baby than continuing to suffer, and during the second trimester is "relatively" safe. There is no known correlation between it and birth defects.  I ended up taking some this weekend, with my OB's approval, because the pain was so bad it was triggering a nerve seizure disorder, and the pain of both was spiking my BP and heart rate, and put me into the ER.

Worth talking with your doctor(s) about, and at what point it's worth the risk.

The studies on sumatriptan that I can find show that the risk mostly seem to be correlated to the very end of pregnancy, and is more a risk for mom than baby. (There was a noted increase in high blood pressure, and blood loss during labor. The study was not able to differentiate if this was due to the migraine, and conditions which lead to migraine, or the cure/drug itself, if I remember correctly.)

  • I had my first OB appointment since all the craziness with being sick. Lots of good news, the little guy is strong in there, with a heart beat in the 150's, and bouncing around. The doctor also confirmed that my high blood pressure from last Friday WAS caused by the pain from the TN attack, not a hypertension issue, in her opinion, so she doesn't think I am at any more risk for pre-eclampsia than any one else right now.

A little bit of bad news, they may want me to go back on the seizure meds if that kind of attack happens again. I'm trying to hold out as long as possible, since every week without gives him a better chance of not having issues from it.

We have our ultra sound scheduled for just about a month from now, super excited to see the little guy!

@1faceinacrowdI use a plant based protein powder that has no harmful ingredients. I took a picture of the label and showed my doctor and she said to keep using it. It has 20 g of protein per serving. I mix it up with fruit or yogurt or spinach as a shake. So there are some other ways to get protein if you don't like meat.

  • Had my 16 week appointment today and my first glucose tolerance test. Hopefully I'll get those results soon! Baby's heartbeat was in the 140s, at first I heard 2 heartbeats and I think my eyes got big because the doctor said you can hear your heartbeat and the baby's. Scheduled my anatomy scan finally for the Monday after Easter!
  • 16 week appointment today, hoping it is better than the 12wk when we found out we were at higher risk for Downs (turned out to be just fine!) but am anxious to hear the heartbeat again!  After this, it's anatomy U/S at 20 weeks!

  • Regular appt today. Heard baby's heartbeat, though at first baby was dodging the doppler. Told my DH and he called the baby our "little ninja." Baby must've scooted closer to one of my blood vessels because when we got a good listen, I heard baby's heart and my own. Can't wait for the ultrasound--scheduled for 3/15. Really excited to see baby again!

  • @court5608 I was trying to get them to schedule it for the Friday before so we could reveal the sex in a cute way at Easter dinner but of course nothing was available. I'm so impatient!
