Late Glucose testing?

At my 26-week appointment this week, my doctor gave me paperwork for my glucose test, and told me to go at 28 weeks on the dot.  I told her I'd have to go to the lab on a Saturday to avoid missing work (they want me fasting, so I have to do it in the morning) and she said to go March 5, when I'll be 28 weeks and 4 days.  She said that's because the later in pregnancy you are, the more likely GD is to show up if you have it.

Now I'm looking at my schedule, and if I do it that day I'll have to bring DS along with me (NOT fun) because my wife will be out of town.  We are going on vacation the weekend before, so I'm thinking of just going ahead and doing it this weekend.  I'll be 26 weeks and 4 days.  Before I call my doctor and pretty much inform her of this plan, I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced the doctor having them wait until 28+ weeks to do testing.  Is this more the norm than I think it is?

Re: Late Glucose testing?

  • My doctor is having me wait until that week as well. For my son it was earlier but this doctor is waiting.

  • My doctor said anytime between 24 and 28 weeks. She told me to go as close to 24 because some women have a harder time digesting it later on?? I don't feel like this would've been a problem. My sister went at 29 weeks though because of vacation and had no problems.
  • I'll be going at 29+2. I would have gotten mine at my 25 week appointment, but we moved and I had to change doctors, so my first visit with my new OB was 25 weeks. She didn't have any words of caution or seem to want to rush me in before my next normal 4 week appointment. I admit it makes me a little annoyed because I want to get it over with, but I either have GD or I don't, so I don't think going at 27 weeks vs. 29 weeks is going to make a difference. My only thing is that if I do have it, I want to know so I can tone down the sweets if needed sooner rather than later.
  • Yeah mine isn't until 27 weeks as well.
  • I'm getting mine today....29+4.  No rush from my doctor either to get it done sooner.
  • Mine will be at 29+2. It was the earliest appointment they had available so I didn't really have a choice and the midwife didn't seem too worried. Just so long as it was scheduled and around that general timeframe I think she was ok with it.
  • I had mine at 28 weeks exactly. The window they gave me to schedule it was between 26-29 weeks.
  • My doctor just told me to go right before my next appt which is Monday and I am actually doing mine as well speak and I will 27 weeks tomorrow! I had to go today since I'm off and wouldn't be able to go tomorrow so I think as long as it's close you are fine.
  • My dr likes it done between 26-28 weeks. I was 25w5d when I had my appt and asked if I could do it then and they were fine with that.
  • My doc said to do it b/w 26-28 weeks, I did at 26w3d.  HTH

Mine is scheduled for when I'm 28w2d.

ETA: My Dr gave me an order to do it that week, no sooner.
