I did a search and didn't find anything in July '16 and I wanted to ask here instead of the baby shower group. My sweet friend that is hosting my baby shower asked me for a list of any themes/color schemes that I love or hate. It got me thinking, what are some that you love, hate, or are sick of seeing?

My friend had a rubber ducky themed shower, I thought it was super cute. I ended up ordering mini-rubber ducks with baby bonnets on to use as cupcake toppers.

I totally agree! I hated it with DD and still do. They just creep me out!

I've a lot of nautical themes. I think some of them are cute, but I'm kinda getting tired of the whales.

I'm pretty tired of all the cutesy baby stuff, and this baby isn't even here yet! I've been avoiding a lot of the animal and "nursery" prints because they're just not my style, and I figure the baby won't care about how its room is decorated for a while.

One of our baby showers (we're doing one where we live and one closer to the other side of the family) is at a local brewery, so my friend sent a "a baby is brewing" themed invitation. But I don't think know what that'll mean for the actual shower decor/etc.

I didn't have a theme. Just yellows and greens. My friends hung some baby things on a clothesline across the mantle and used it as part of a game later. They wanted it to feel elegant and didn't want animals or cartoon characters around. (Not there's anything wrong with that!) They had glass plates and flower arrangements.

I went to one shower where the theme was she's about to "pop" and they had specialty popcorns (with pack your own take home bags) and unique pops/sodas.

My husband's family threw us a "lil slugger" themed shower, and it was adorable. We're big baseball fans, so it was pretty fitting. Instead of a guest book, everyone signed a Louisville Slugger baseball bat which we have hanging in DS's room. All the food was ballpark themed, so there were chips, popcorn, nachos, and nitrate/nitrite-free hot dogs.

So does my friend! No need to hide. My mom is helping her host and is all about a theme. So, she's really asking on behalf of my mom. I'm just thankful for a shower, no matter how tacky or old school it could end up.

Luckily my best friend knows me really well, so I'm sure it'll be great.

My mom and sister threw my shower; they did a train theme. Each table had a conductor bear seated on faux luggage holding a railroad crossing sign with the name of a place my husband and I have lived (NJ, Boston, FL). The cake had a train and I think someone made me a diaper cake in the shape of a train. It was very sweet, personal and not overdone at all.

^^^ THIS! I freaking HATE monkeys. I also hate anything sports themed or princess/ ballerina/ foo-foo themed. I told my shower thrower orange and green are our colors and we like foxes and woodland creatures. No idea what they're planning but there better not be any d@mn monkeys! LOL I agree that baby themes basically suck. I want a henna party with indian food. Let's be real- the party is for us. The baby won't be there!

My sister has already thrown around ideas and what I (shockingly) like is pretty damn cutesy which is a surprise given that I pretty much dislike all baby theme things. She's planning on a "Rainbow Shower" type thing...Lots of colors, white balloons, candy buffet, champagne bar, etc. A far cry from his nursery which is clean and neutral and probably boring for a nursery. Here are a couple inspo pictures..Hopefully they're not huge.

@theshannondee I LOVE that rainbow themed shower!! I really love rainbows and tons of color in general so that is completely my taste. Plus it works for team green, team blue OR team pink!

My cousin is due next month and is having a Dr.Seuss shower next week. The invitations were really cute and it was a nice play into her request for books instead of cards

We aren't really doing a theme for the nursery, though we are planning to hang some of our travel art in the nursery. The mobile I registered for is all airplanes, and I'd like to get a kid-friendly world map or cityscape.

I really think I'd be able to DIY this airplane mobile though...

@stellaluna14 - I know! When I threw my SIL a shower 6 years ago all I did was pink for a girl. I had no idea about themes. However, now that I have helped throw 7 showers, I've done a tiny bit of themes just to make each one unique.

I'm a bibliophile and can only say book theme! I read babies will recognize the voice and story read to them before birth (even if not true awww) so why not have baby books and maybe parenting books peops liked?

Okay so I changed my mind. I love the idea of a rainbow themed shower since this will hopefully be my rainbow baby! Cute!

I'm pretty much in love with the classic Winnie the Pooh books/illustrations (can you tell?) and my SIL is ridiculously artistic, so I'm pretty sure she's going to be throwing a beautiful shower loosely based on that theme. She's basically been planning it since my first pregnancy/loss 2.5 years ago, so I'm excited to finally get to see what she's had up her sleeve.

@shanparadise I agree with being very over the owl theme. @sboston06 I like the Dr. Seuss theme and travel! I am doing an ABC's theme/books for my shower and ABC's for the nursery also! It's the teacher in me!

My shower will be a co-ed, casual, & classy cookout type of thang...possibly at a local cider garden or backyard

no themes here but I'm sure there'll be a color scheme depending on the sex.

The only one I have been to that I enjoyed was a 'Big Tent Carnival' themed one. She had a Margarita machine, cotton candy machine, pinwheel sandwiches, pasta salad, etc. She didn't have any of the 'baby shower' games, it was a mixed sex, adult house party style affair. Everyone just socialized, and the one baby thing she had everyone do was go into the nursery and cast their votes for the sex on the chalkboard wall (they waited until birth to find out the sex). She also didn't ask for gifts, and only a handful of her close friends who knew about her registry brought gifts (which she just put out of site in the crib). I know that's not everyone's style, but I enjoyed it.

Fishing line, card stock in the correct colors and I would suggest small fishing weights to weigh down the lines which you could also paint.

My hosts asked me what themes etc I liked and all I could think of was this children's book my husband got me for Valentine's day a few years ago called Kitty & Dino. So I told them cats and dinosaurs lol. Good for either a boy or girl! Only one person attempted to tell me that girls don't like dinosaurs. Grrr. This one does!

@lyssiana my friends daughter was turning two, so she let her look through the cake book at the store and pick out what themed cake she wanted. She picked dinosaurs over all of the "girly" cakes.

Ok, so we may have a theme even though I said there probably wouldn't be one. Still nothing too crazy, but with the dates that are available in May, the shower may fall close to cinco de mayo. Since I'm part Mexican, it also works. So a fiesta baby shower may happen...we'll see!

I was just talking to my mom about my shower. My MIL and SIL are planning it with some input from my mom (showers aren't a thing where we're from so my mom would have no idea what to do to plan one alone), but she was saying there isn't really going to be a theme, it'll just be a bunch of stuff I like. My favorite color (purple), animal (goats), flower (sunflowers) and stuff like that. It's gonna be a big mashup and I'm so excited hah

So this ended up being what I sent her for ideas. I hated picking anything too specific. I figured with these color schemes they could do as much or little as they wanted. Plus, with so many options, I'll still be surprised. Which I really want to be.

I've been to a really cute Noah's Ark theme. It was not overdone at all, just played up the animals and had a cute cake with a rainbow banner.

@Lyssiana I'm a girl, I still love dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are cool. They don't belong to anyone damnit! That reminds me, crabs are one of my favorite animals so I bought this cute grey and white onesie with a crab on it. Before we knew the sex. My friend saw it and was like "oh so you really think it's a boy huh?" Why, are crustaceans a strictly male thing?

I think themes are really great bc as the party thrower it gives you an idea of how to decorate, what food to make etc. There are so many creative options out there these day! My shower for ds was a fox/ woodland theme. It was at a cabin in a beautiful park- men women and kids were all invited. We did a couple games mostly geared towards the kids but besides that it was laid back and casual! My sister is an artist and did so many awesome things! What I liked most is that she included many things for decorations that could be used in ds's room!

@lyssiana that's so bogus anyone would think that smh My DD (who is turning 5) is the epitome of all things girly (sparkly dresses, nail polish etc) and Daddy and her have watched all the Jurassic park movies together. She can't get enough dinosaurs! Now they can't quite over throw her favorite thing in the world, which awesomely enough is tractors lol, but they are a close second

The first baby shower I threw for my sister (TEN YEARS AGO, ahhh!) was Mardi Gras themed because it happened to coincide with that time frame. My mother was skeptical about having such a non-baby theme for a baby shower, but it ended up being really cool!

We did masks and hats for favors and made cool silhouettes of babies playing jazz instruments to hang on the walls. And the food was AMAZING!

And because it was a co-ed party and most attendees were in their 20s/30s, everyone had a great time. We even made my sister and BIL sit on throwns wearing crowns to open presents. They loved it.

For my brother's third boy, we did a Three Stooges themed baby shower. Equally as fun to put together and the kids loved it!

If I put my DD in any colors other than pink/purple.....family members ask why I always dress her like a boy.
