Opting out of Genetic Tests?

I didn't have any of genetic pre-screening tests with DS because I didn't want the extra worry.  I am leaning towards that route again this time around.  Is anyone else opting not to test, even with all the new developments?  Part of me is probably just scared of the results and the other part knows that either way I would not choose to end the pregnancy.  I will be 33 years old next week so I'm creeping towards the age where my risks increase.

I opted out with my first and will this time as well for the same reasons you mentioned. I believe AMA starts at 35, so I wouldn't let turning 33 scare you.

Also, there is a really good thread already on this discussion here: https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12660927/genetic-testing-yay-or-nay/p1

ETA: My first is only 17 months so my testing options were as good then as now. I still opted out.

  • I opted out with my last 3 but being that I turn 35 during this pregnancy I am not opting out this time.

Thank you all!  I was offered a new blood test and US this time around that would occur around 11 weeks.  I forgot the name of it, plus the new blood test that can also tell gender.  I'm pretty sure I'm opting out of both, I guess with these tests being "new and advanced" I felt a sense of being irresponsible not taking advantage of the science.  It's good knowing knowing I'm not that only one, thanks for the responses!
  • It could be the cvs test that they were offering you.. I'm getting it this Tuesday. It offers full genetic testing and can tell you the gender , but I won't get results for a week and a half.
