Baby is 1 month old and saw the pediatrician yesterday. She's gaining weight abs everything is dandy, except she's got colic (which totally sucks). She is formula fed (gerber soy) and usually poops once every 24 hours... After a long, miserable screaming fit she pooped tonight, but it wasn't soft, squishy, normal baby poop. It was much more formable; a non-squishy, solid, fairly large ball.
As far as my reading has gone, this is constipation, which makes sense with the tummy troubles she's been having. But I have no idea what to do about it... it's Friday night and Monday is a holiday, so the soonest I can contact her doctor would be Tuesday.
Any ideas on what I can do to give her some relief?
Re: Constipation?
The only thing that helped was Karo syrup in her bottles - recommended by the grandmas and confirmed by her pediatrician. And for the gas we kept plenty of simethicone drops on hand.
Our current Dr. gave us samples of enfamil reguline for "digestive health and soft stools" and I was just thinking where was this when our daughter needed it! Maybe it would be a good formula for you to try?
@Jessdub10 I'll have to look into that formula, I haven't heard of that one before... and maybe try small amounts of the Karo syrup over the weekend. I don't think her pediatrician has an after hours number, they just suggest to go to the hospital... it being a long weekend, I don't want her to be miserable (or more miserable due to this colic), but I also don't want to take her to the hospital.
I called the pedi after it went in for 3 days. She had us give him one oz of prune juice and 2 tablespoons water twice a day for a few days. It has given mixed results though. Some
diapers are more mushy (still thicker than usual though) and some are formed.
She then recommended we give him a probiotic everyday which we just started. We're going to give it a week and see if it helps.
